Ex Rapid gets Bronze
Fraser Valley wins bronze medal
The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades looked to the bench for an answer against the Mount Royal Cougars in the bronze medal game, and it came in a small package.
Five-feet,five-inch guard Megan McAlister led her team to a 73-67 victory over Mount Royal today, with 12 points in the second half.
The Cougars started out the game the better team, led by second-year guard Jessica Gill, and a well-executed offence. They jumped out to a 10-point lead early, but Heather Boer"s strong play down low kept the Cascades close going into the half.
But McAlister's speed was too much for the Cougars defence, and UCFV eventually built a comfortable lead of their own, which they would never give up.
"She came off the bench and she was tremendous," said head coach Al Tuchscherer of McAlister's big performance.
"She's had a great weekend for us, but I think our team just gutted it out in the last three games and I'm really proud of how we played."
