RIVER HEIGHTS SPEED SKATING CLUB (RHSSC)
Speed Skating – Beginner to Advanced Programs

The RHSSC program is run under the direction of coaches who have successfully completed National Coaching Certification, and covers both the short track and long track disciplines. Regular ice practices incorporate several components such as warm up, technical focus, warm down, games, healthy competitiveness, and fun. The primary goal is to teach skaters to be competent on speed skates through focus on the 5 basic speed skating skills as implemented through the “Cutting Edge Pin Program”. Skaters who successfully complete specific skill levels are awarded their respective pins at the end of the season. Contact Colin Javra - 487-0056 or email speedskating@riverheightscc.org

Speed Skating Season begins on Tuesday October 7, 2008 and ends March 19, 2009.

Features of the Speed Skating Program
Olympic Style Race Series, coaching, training camps, skate-a-thon, developmental fun meets, the Cross Canada Personal Best Challenge, and a variety of competition opportunities at local, provincial and national levels.

Benefits of Speed Skating

  • An ice sport that has reasonable, overall participation costs.
  • Often used as a cross trainer for other sports: the elements of balance, coordination, endurance, agility, strength and of course speed which can all be improved upon within a speed skating program.
  • Excellent record for undertaking practices and competitions in a safe and closely monitored environment.
