WELCOME! Formed in 1999 in Division 9, we are now on our 11th year of operations as we continue to have fun and fight to compete in the upper divisions of the Edmonton District Soccer Association. In that time, we've gone through one significant roster change, a merger with Estudiantes to create the shortlived but glorious Cascadia Morning FC, demerger to return to sole ownership, transfer of ownership to Ben Gelinas and a retransfer of ownership back to Sergio Teixeira.

ANNOUNCING OUR NEW MEDIA RELATIONS OFFICER
River City Edmonton is proud to announce the appointment of former Iraqui Information Minister, Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf (MSS) as our new Press Officer.
In his new duties, MSS will issue all press releases and handle all media contacts. When asked at the press conference about the other teams in the league, MSS stated that ' We will kill them all........most of them."

THORSBY DRILLERS - RIVER CITY EDMONTON
Tuesday, October 27, 2045, West Soccer Centre
After not fielding a team for the 2009 Outdoor Season and yet another organizational restructuring, River City Edmonton started the 2009-2010 season in less than ideal circumstances. Go figure. Of the 11 registered players, only 8 were available for the first game, with Satar Ahmet and Juan Zuniga not available due to their Brasilian waxing sessions, John Omoyayi's card pre-dating Larry King and trialist Arlindo Gomes not having his card on him. Something about his wife not letting him out of the house with it....
Facing a Thorsby Drillers team with 4 substitutes and an actual coaching staff, the odds did not look good, but true to River City spirit, the guys took the field to give it their all. Not like any of them wanted to go home to their wives.....
Newcomer to the team Safeen Khoshnow led the way in goal with Captain Ben Gelinas, Guhdar Saad and Sergio Teixeira providing defensive cover. Up front, inspirational Captain Shivan Ahmad marshalled Bashar Benny, Walat Ahmad and newcomer Mateen Ali into a lean, mean soccer machine.
With only 2 subs, Coach Sergio's tactics were simple to devise. Tight defensive play, letting the ball do the running when attacking and trying to kill as much time off the clock as possible. Really nothing else to be done.
Thorsby came out attacking, taking advantage of their numerical superiority, but River's defensive prowess enabled them to sustain the pressure, while launching threatning counterattacks. Safeen's solidity in goal coupled with great distribution and field play allowed Guhdar and Ben to run up field when possible, knowing they were covered at the back. Shivan and Walat's defensive midfield cover was instrumental in ensuring we were never caught outnumbered. Mind you, they were really tired and would hang out in defense to catch their breath.
Shivan was of course key in the attack, keeping possesion and picking out Mateen, Bashar and Walat when appropriate. Or when he got tired of hogging the ball.
The first half ended tied at 0, which was an accomplishment in itself given the lack of bodies. But the guys, although tired, were hungry. They could smell the chance to score. Yup. We were on crack.
Within 3 minutes of the second half though, Ben took a free kick in the Thorsby zone that landed for Bashar to shoot. Like the rest of his shots tonight, his shot was blocked but Mateen picked up the rebound and put it in the back of the net. Just like he does at the bar...picking up the rebounds....
The goal caused Thorsby to attack a bit more, but they were clearly demoralized as River City were able to launch scathing counterattacks. That and more out of shape than us.
Referee D. Knoblogh was tough but fair, while Sergio's efforts to recruit Assistant Referee Karol Pinter as a trialist, were for naught.

No contest. Mateen Ali's game winning goal.
RCE PLAYER OF THE GAME
Thorsby Drillers - Justin Martell. The #4 had great positioning, making intelligent runs all game. Luckily he couldn't hit the side of a barn.
RCE - While every player deserves mention, anytime a goalkeeper keeps a clean sheet in Indoor soccer, that's an automatic nod. Safeen Khoshnow gets the honours for his Fabien Barthez like roaming upfield qualities...
