At a relatively low key invite, but conducted on the Mt. SAC course, Santiago took their best to compete at the San Gabriel Valley 1-on-1 challenge. #1's compete #1's, #2's compete against #'2's and so on..
With that being said, Santiago sophomore McKennah Genovese shined brightly under perfect conditions for the Mt. SAC course. With the course packed down from Thursday's rain and with no dust whatsoever, she ran one of the fastest times in Riverside County history at 17:28! This is obviously a new school record as she is the first Shark to break 18 on the course. This now makes her the #6 all-time girl on the Mt. SAC course while bouncing back from a stress fracture in 2011 that ended her season! They will bypass the Mt. SAC Invite...so we will see her next in November! By the way, Santiago broke 98 minutes as a team....
Fellow Shark, senior Robert Lopez, shined as well with an awesome 15:14 effort! He was fastest on the day. Considering how a case on mononucleosis put Lopez off of everybody's radar in 2011, this was great! Does the Big VIII League have four boys under 15:20, based on Lopez's time? He finished 3rd in both league meets thus far... with ML King's Brandon Berz getting the victory this last Thursday, Roosevelt's Kyle Warrick finishing ahead of Lopez two times now along with Corona's David Aguilar taking 2nd place three weeks ago? Is there some blatant Big VIII biased here as we type perhaps.. ? As a side note - Brett Moulton ran an impressive 15:49 as well. He was 11th at the Big VIII league meet two days earlier.. Santiago went 81:17 on the course as a team. 4th place in their league and #7 in the county at 81:17 - wow!
