#2 CIF and state ranked Vista Murrieta's boys survived a scare from highly ranked and defending league champion Great Oak. Skimming by with a 30-31 victory did not seem too scary after VM came across with the top three boys. But, Great Oak then put five boys in the next six slots to make it interesting to say the least. Vista Murrieta essentially clinched the league title here as Great Oak took 4th place in the first league meet. Great Oak and Chaparral are tied for 2nd place as Chaparral outlasted Murrieta Mesa by a mere five points.
On the girls' side, Vista Murrieta took home the victory here as Great Oak rested most of their varsity girls that we witnessed last Saturday. Even with Great Oak taking 2nd place, they are in 1st place going into the league finals. Vista Murrieta took 3rd place, behind Temecula Valley, for first go around. So, VM now holds a slight advantage over TV here. Chaparral's pack for simply too far back to challenge for that 3rd place spot. VM is still finding it's 2nd gear here in 2012, but draw upon last year's experience as we still have them as a CIF Finalist (despite not being CIF ranked in the top 14).
