Competing against one of the best teams in the nation, Xavier College Prep of Arizona, Great Oak's girls held their own and validated why they are also amongst the top 15 teams in the nation themselves. Bypassing their own SWL meet, their top seven traveled out to compete in the Desert Twilight Classic. They were leading at the halfway point, but XCP took over and barely outlasted the Wolfpack. XCP edged GO 28-41, as both squads blazed the tough course in under 92:30.
Ashley Helbig came home with the 2nd place, 18:07, finish while Haley Dorris is one of the most improved runners in the county over the past two seasons. She finished 7th in 18:28 with sophomore Maiya Larsen in tow at 18:29. Christian Calain was timed at 18:34 (11th) and Kelli McNamee finished out the scoring with her 13th place, 18:38 effort.
Great Oak's boys continue to improve and back up their high Division I ranking here. Seniors Nathan Velarde and Jack Balder continue to work their way back into peak form. they took 2nd place in the Sweepstakes Race, like their female counterparts, while being led by Kaden Lapham's 15:51 effort. A slim 17 second gap from the remaining scorers was led Balder's 16:13.
