Great Oak's boys held off a fast charging Vista Murrieta boys for the 32-38 victory. Despite VM taking 1,2,4 - they could not overcome Great Oak's 26 second scoring gap. VM held a 20-23 advantage after four scorers, but ah...that crucial #5 slot definately went into GO's favor by a tally of 9 to 18 while they put all seven in front of VM's #5. This basically gives Great Oak their first Cross Country Southwestern league title!
On the girls' side, Great Oak rested the majority of their "A" squad while watching the rest duke it out for 2nd place. With the ever so important at-large berth being taken into consideration, these teams do not want to leave it up to the rankings. Murrieta Valley took 4th here but Kylee Martin (#2) did not finish. Chaparral's Xiang Tak did not finish the 1st league meet. VM's Erika Reddish was resting from a injury in the first league meet while their #1 Nicaela Hernandez finished 17th place here after a 12 second victory over the rest of the league two weeks ago while their #2 and #4 are not in the 2nd league meet's results. Finally, Jessica McCarthy was VM's #1 as this is her first year of competing in Cross Country! So, roller coaster bumps in the road for sure on the road to CIF.
