The RI Lightning is a highly competitive fastpitch travel organization competing in PONY, ASA, NSA, USSSA and AAU tournaments throughout the Northeast. Our organization has 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U teams. Our players come from all over Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts to play for one of the top organizations in New England. We only accept dedicated team players.
We are a member of the largest and oldest travel organization in Rhode Island. Our coaches have many years of softball experience and invest countless hours of quality practice time with the team year round. In return, RI Lightning players are expected to be courteous, honest, and respectful with their parents, coaches, teammates, opponents and officials at all times. We expect 100% effort on and off the field by our players.
The 2008 RI Lightning 12 & Under team competed in nine tournaments in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, including a step up in competition to the 14U division for our last tournament of the season in West Greenwich, RI. We finished the 2008 12 & Under season with two tournament championships, one 2nd place finish, and three 3rd place finishes as we competed against the best "A" level teams from across New England and New York.
In 2009, the team transitioned to the 14U division for the season with all first-year 14U players, and played a lot of very close, competitive games. During the season, we experienced many of the growing pains that most younger teams go through during their first year in a new, older division. We played in a total of 10 "A" level tournaments thoughout the Northeast, including a trip to the ASA Eastern "A" Nationals in Sterling, VA, and had several strong finishes including 4th place (out of 17 teams) in the RI ASA "Open" States and 3rd place in both the Bay State Bandits "Mother's Day Bash" PONY Qualifier and New England Phoenix "May Madness" ASA Qualifier.
For the 2010 season, we began by playing in three "A" level Fall Ball tournaments in Fall 2009., finishing with two 2nd place finishes (including one in a 16U tournament). In our first Fall Ball tournament (NSA 14U Fall Brawl Qualifier), we finished in 2nd place and qualified for the 2010 NSA 14U World Series. And in our final Fall Ball tournament (East Bay 16U Fall Classic ASA Invitational), we stepped up to play in the 16U division and finished in 2nd place, with a 4-1 record for the weekend.
In the Spring and Summer of 2010, we competed in a total of 10 more "A" level tournaments throughout the Northeast, resulting in five top-3 finishes, 3rd place in RI ASA "A" States, and 5th place in New England ASA "A" Regionals. We wrapped up our season by competing in the USSSA World Series, held at ESPN's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL. We finished in 9th place (out of 45 teams) at the USSSA World Series and were the only team from New England, New York, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania to finish in the top-10.
We have a strong core of players returning from our 2010 team, and look forward to welcoming the new players that have been selected to join us. Looking forward, we are moving up to the 16U division for the 2011 season, which began with three Fall Ball tournaments in September/October 2010. In our first two tournaments, we won the Lowell ASA 16U "Autumn Classic" (8 teams) and finished in 2nd place in the "Hits For Hope" PONY Invitational in W. Greenwich, RI (10 teams).
