Youth "touch" rugby involves running, passing, catching, scoring, kicking, offense, defense, scrums, lineouts, mauls, rolling, leaping, more running, more catching, more kicking and MORE scoring – lots of scoring for everyone on the team! It brings together TEAM skills from soccer, basketball, lacrosse, football, and a lot more...all wrapped into one, fast, exciting game!!
The Richmond Lions Rugby Club, one of the leading rugby organizations in the country, is offering "non-contact" tag rugby for boys and girls ages 5 through 15. The program is based in Richmond, VA though players from any community are welcome. Co-ed teams are organized to suit the number of youth in the program.
We offer an "in-house" u7 program to teach the basics and encourage participation of all ages. The older of these players will usually get a few chances to play in the u9 games. The under-9 and under-11 will practice together but play as u9 and u11 teams. Similarly the under-13 and under-15 squads train together though play in different age based division. Occassionally players will cross over to a different age group if skill and competition is appropropriate. The club participates in the Virginia Rugby Youth League with other u9, u11, u13, u15 teams within Virginia and the surrounding areas.
