Roosevelt travelled to Woodinville for their final game of the season for a game against the lead leading Falcons (14-1).
The Riders scored first in the opening inning when Junior Anne McGowan crossed the plate on an RBI single by Junior Casey Bouldin. The Falcons responded by tying it up in the bottom of the inning. The teams then traded a scoreless second.
In the third leadoff batter Senior Isabelle Batayola ripped a triple to left center and follow up hits by Anne McGowan and Senior Diana Hermansen marked two more runs for the green and gold. Woodinville managed a run of their own to respond and the game was now 3-2 for Roosevelt.
The Falcons tied it up in the bottom of 5 and took a strong lead in the bottom of the sixth, scroing 3 runs on three hits to take their first and biggest lead of the day. It was do or die in the top of seven, and after the first out, Isabelle Batayola earned a walk. Sophomore Katherine Woodworth slapped a single into shallow left and Diana Hermansen ripped a triple to right center to score two. Casey Bouldin then got her 3rd single and 2nd RBI of the day tying the game at six. A deranged home plate umpire ejected one of the Rider players for "excessive celebration" and being out of substitutes, forced us to face the rest of the game shorthanded.
The Riders took the field with eight players in the bottom of seven. The Falcons manage a single hit, but sophomore pitcher Megan Murray bore down and struck out two to hold Woodinville scoreless and send the game into extra innings.
Roosevelt was unable to score in the top of eight and the Falcons notched a double to an empty field to win the game in the bottom of the inning. The Riders took the top ranked Falcons to their limit on the last game of the season. I wish our seniors well as they move on to college and I look forward to seeing you all at summer league.
GO RIDERS!
