Rhinos win double at home
SENIORS
The senior Rhinos got back to playing winning football with a win over the improving Ipswich Cougars on Saturday.
Casey Bromilow started the scoring taking the opening kick off back for a TD to take a early 6-0 lead, the Cougars were able to answer right back with a good return themselves setting up their offense with great field position which they were able to convert to tie the game. Luke Jackson then returned the kick off for another Rhino TD to extend the lead to 12-6. Both teams exchanged possesion without luck to go to the break with the Rhinos up.
The Rhinos then added to their score through a Matt Neil catch in the third to give the Rhinos a 18-6 lead, the Rhinos defense was able to get on top of the Cougars with Dave Cunningham getting 3 interceptions. Luke Jackson then ran in a TD in the fourth quarter with the Rhinos able to add the extra points to make the final score 26-6.
JUNIORS
The junior Rhinos took on the undefeated Browns Plains Bears in the first game of the day and were able to quickly get the scoring started when Ryen Gillen completed a 30 yard pass to Scott Lehmann for a 6-0 lead. The Rhinos defense was able to get the ball back with Jono Mihalec picking off a Bears pass to give the Rhinos excellent field position. The offense was able to drive the ball down the field with Scott Lehmann taking a reverse 30yards for his second TD of the game and a 12-0 lead. The Bears challenged the Rhinos in the closing minutes of the half however the defense held them out to take a 12-0 lead into the break.
The second half started with the Rhinos hungry to score more points mindfull of a Bears comeback, Michael Lynagh ran the ball in for a TD with Lehmann getting the extra points to extend the lead to 20-0. The defense then controlled the Bears offense forcing them to punt giving the ball back to the offense which was able to again drive down the field this time with Ben Stower running in for the score with Nathan Wynder getting the extra points to make the score 28-0 which ended the scoring for the day, the win keeps the juniors in the top 4 and is a great boost as they take on the only undfeated team next week in the Gold Coast Stingrays.
