Seither Stadium is the home of the Ridgewood-Glendale-Middle Village-Maspeth Little League and is located at 78th Ave. & Woodhaven Blvd. in Glendale Queens.
 
There are three playing fields used for Boys Baseball and Girls Softball. There are two regular Little League fields and one Instructional / Rookie field. All Senior and Travel team games are played at Juniper Valley Park and Victory Field. There are over 1000 players and 60 teams that range in age 6-18.

The registration for the 2010 season is as follows: ALL DIVISONS - $150.00 per child. The registration fee includes the required $50.00 in raffle tickets. For second player families the cost is an additional $35.00 plus $50.00 in raffle tickets. ANY PARENT WHO HAS NOT COMPLETED THEIR 2009 WORK DETAIL WILL BE ASSESSED A $50.00 PENALTY FEE AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. All fees are due at registration time. The registration fee includes the cost for the uniform shirt and cap. The gray uniform pants are not included and must be purchased separately. The gray uniform pants are a league rule and all players are required to wear them. Any player not wearing gray pants will not be permitted to play. All new players to the league must live in the RGMVM LL boundaries of Zip Codes. 11227, 11385, 11379, and 11378.

Beginning Saturday January 2nd 6:30 PM to 830 PM at the Cage Batting on Metropolitan Ave. For 8-12. The clinic will involve baseball fundamentals (hitting, fielding, throwing) and will be run by

 Greg Modica, Pete Serra (both from The MidVille Dodgers)

 with help from other HS coaches.

 

 The cost of the clinic is $250 which breaks down to $25 per week (same price as a half hour cage rental). Anyone interested should call 917-495-5862. We will have an early registration this Sunday between 12-5pm.

RGMVM 12-year-old All Stars Win District 27 Championship....

On Friday July 17, 2009, the RGMVM 12-year-old All Star team defeated Rockaway Little League 14-2 to capture the District 27 Championship held at RGMVM’s Seither Stadium in Glendale.  The win, which lasted only four innings on account of mercy rule, was the third straight for the RGMVM 12s who are excited about moving on to next weeks Sectional round.  RGMVM will face Bayside at host Forest Hills Little League on Saturday, July 25 at 11:00 AM.      

 

District Game #3 – RGMVM vs. Rockaway (14-2)

 

            Following their third straight loss of the coin toss for home field advantage,  the RGMVM All-Stars barreled out of the gate with a lead off walk by # 1 Evan Mancini, and a perfectly executed bunt single by #3 Brandon Hernandez.  Following advances to 2^nd and 3^rd on a passed ball, #10 Karl Klesin cleared the bases with a 3-run blast over the center field fence to put RGMVM on the board.  Hard hit singles by #25 Jacob Bannon and #41 Scott Hannon, set the stage for #12 Shane Herrity’s 2-RBI single, capping the top of the first inning with 5 runs for RGMVM.  Starting on the mound for RGMVM was #7 Dylan Lawrence, who retired the side striking out two of the four Rockaway batters faced.  In the top of the second, a single by Mancini and walk by Hernandez set the stage for a 2-RBI single by Hannon.  Lawrence drew a walk as did #5 Matthew Buete to load the bases for Herrity who again took advantage with a grand slam HR (his 2^nd in two games) over the center field fence putting RGMVM ahead 11-0.  Herrity replaced Lawrence on the mound and pitched a scoreless 2^nd with two strikeouts.  Despite a lead off walk by Mancini and singles by Hernandez and Bannon, RGMVM failed to score in third inning.  Herrity continued pitching in the 3^rd inning, again striking out two and forcing a ground out to first.  RGMVM then tacked on 3 more runs in the fourth inning after Lawrence and Buete reached and Herrity went yard again, this time a 3-run HR over the right field fence to put RGMVM ahead 14-0.  Klesin replaced Herrity on the mound in the fourth, allowing two runs on two hits with one strikeout.  The game subsequently ended on account of the mercy rule and the win gave RGMVM Little League its second consecutive 12-year-old District 27 Championship. 

 

District Game # 2 – RGMVM vs. Ozone Howard (11-1)

 

            On Saturday July 11, 2009 the RGMVM 12s squared off against neighboring Ozone Howard.  After losing the coin toss for home field advantage, RGMVM failed to put up numbers in the top of the 1^st inning.  Starting on the mound for RGMVM was

# 41 Scott Hannon, who retired five batters on 12 pitches but not before Ozone Howard was able to put up a run in the bottom of the 1^st inning.  In the top of the 2^nd inning, a lead off single by Hannon set the stage for an RBI double by #5 Matthew Buete to put RGMVM on the board and the game was now tied at 1-1.  Hannon quickly retired the side on three strikeouts in the bottom of the second.  The top of third proved to be bountiful for RGMVM starting with three consecutive hard hit singles laid down by  #25 Jacob Bannon, #41 Scott Hannon and #7 Dylan Lawrence.  With bases loaded, #5 Matthew Buete drew an RBI on a single, giving RGMVM a 2-1 lead and leaving the bases loaded for #12 Shane Herrity who took advantage with a grand slam HR over the centerfield fence to put RGMVM atop 6-1.  In the bottom of the 3^rd, Hannon faced four batters, allowing a single and striking out two.  RGMVM bats remained hot and returned in the 4^th with a double by #3 Brandon Hernandez and a 2-run HR by Hannon to make it 8-1.  Hannon then retired 3 consecutive Ozone batters in the 4^th, two by way of strikeout.  In the top of the 5^th, RGMVM tacked on 3 more runs by way of a Buete single, an RBI double by #11 Mike Morgan who eventually stole home, a walk by #13 Scott Larsen and a RBI Sac Fly by Hernandez giving RGMVM an 11-1 lead.  Ozone Howard threatened in the 5^th with a leadoff single and a Sac Bunt which quickly resulted in a pick-off at 2^nd base.  Following another single, Hannon closed the deal with a third out strikeout and a 5-inning mercy rule to propel RGMVM to a potential District Championship in game 3 scheduled for July 17 at RGMVM’s Seither Stadium.

 

  

District Game #1 – RGMVM vs. Rockaway (12-0)

 

            On July 7, 2009 RGMVM squared off against Rockaway Little League in their first game of the District 27 tournament.  After losing the coin toss for home field advantage, RGMVM opened up with hard hit singles by #3 Brandon Hernandez , #10 Karl Klesin and #25 Jacob Bannon to load the bases and setting the stage for #41 Scott Hannon who laced an RBI single up the middle to put RGMVM ahead 1-0.  On the mound for RGMVM was #7 Dylan Lawrence who retired the first three batters faced all by way of strikeouts.  RGMVM opened the 2^nd with a flurry.  After #5 Matthew Buete reached and #12 Shane Herrity walked, Mike Morgan laced a 2-RBI double and then scored on #1 Evan Mancini’s RBI single which would be the first of 6 consecutive ones.  Hernandez reached on a single, followed by an RBI single by Klesin, then a 2 RBI single by Bannon, another single by Hannon and an RBI single by Lawrence had RGMVM emerge from the 2^nd inning with a 10-0 lead. After an opening single by Rockaway in the bottom of the 2^nd, Lawrence again pitched for 3 consecutive strikeouts to retire the side.  RGMVM put 2 more runs on the board in the 3^rd with singles by Bannon and Hannon and a 2-run RBI single by Buete and RGMVM was up 12-0. Lawrence threw 3 consecutive strikeouts in the bottom of the third. In the 4^th, although singles were laid down by #99 Steven Cirillo and Klesin, RGMVM failed to score.  Lawrence retired Rockaway in order in the fourth and attained RGMVM’s first District game win via a 4-inning mercy rule.  RGMVM’s 12s next District game is scheduled for July 11 at RGMVM’s Seither Stadium.

Allstate Insurance and WFAN Radio Team Up To Take RGMVM Kids Out To Citi Field...

Allstate Insurance and WFAN radio would team up to supply a day of fun at Citi field for RGMVM Little leaguers. The host Kevin Spann from Allstate would invite 20 RGMVM players to a clinic, where fielder Nick Evans, pitcher Brian Stokes, and first base coach Sandy Alomar Sr. would teacher players the techniques of  fielding, hitting, and pitching .                                                                                                                                                          

After the clinic each child was given an opportunity to take a photo with the Met players. Every child received a printed photo and a free with a box lunch and three tickets to the nite game against the Dodgers. This event was enjoyable for all family members.

Important Information On Wood Bats Vs Metal Bats

I know there are a lot of questions about wood bats vs metal bats. There has been talk in NYC of looking to have metal bats banned. I just want to share with our league members the updated information concerning Little leagues stance on this subject. Please read it as it contains important information and will help answer many questions that are out there.

The Youth Committee of USA Baseball today issued the statement below regarding non-wood bats. Little League International is a member, along with other youth organizations, of USA Baseball. Little League also holds a seat on the USA Baseball Board of Directors.

USA Baseball often coordinates research that affects all youth baseball organizations. For example, USA Baseball was instrumental in the recent change to the league age determination date by all youth baseball organizations.

USA Baseball, the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of baseball as designated by the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, recently held a meeting of its National Youth Membership, and on behalf of the following organizations has released the following statement:

1. American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC)
2. American Legion Baseball
3. Dixie Baseball
4. Little League Baseball, Inc.
5. Babe Ruth Baseball
6. PONY Baseball
7. National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF)
8. National Baseball Congress / Hap Dumont Baseball
9. Amateur Athletic Union (AAU)
10. United States Sports Specialties Association (USSSA)
11. National Police Athletic League (PAL)
12. T-Ball USA

PERCEPTION: Aluminum bats are more dangerous than wood bats. The National Consumer Product Safety Commission studied this issue and concluded in 2002 that there is no evidence to suggest that aluminum bats pose any greater risk than wood bats. Multiple amateur baseball governing bodies, including the NCAA, National High School Federation, Little League International, PONY, et al, all track safety statistics and have concluded that aluminum bats do not pose a safety risk.

PERCEPTION: Balls come off aluminum bats faster than wood. Since 2003, all bats are required to meet the "Bat Exit Speed Ratio" (BESR) performance limitation, which ensures that aluminum bats do not hit the ball any harder than the best wood bats.

PERCEPTION: Injuries from aluminum bats are more severe than with wood bats. Two out of the three deaths from a batted ball in the last decade came from wood bats. Dr. Frederick Mueller, Director of the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research, has indicated from his studies that catastrophic injuries from wood bats may be more frequent than aluminum bats.

PERCEPTION: The Brown University study proves that aluminum bats hit the ball harder than wood bats. This study is irrelevant by today's standards. All of the bats used in the Brown study would not be allowed to be used today, because they do not meet the BESR standard.

PERCEPTION: The use of aluminum bats places children at an unacceptable risk of injury.

A study from the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research shows that there have been only 15 catastrophic batted ball injuries to pitchers out of more than 9,500,000 high school and college participants since 1982.

During the last five years a number of states, individual organizations, city councils, and others have proposed the banning of metal baseball bats on a number of different levels. These actions have typically been in reaction to a catastrophic injury as opposed to being based on creditable injury data or research. In May of 2002 the Consumer Product Safety Commission stated, "The Commission is not aware of any information that injuries produced by balls batted with non-wood bats are more severe than those involving wood bats". This statement was true in 2002 and it is true in 2007.

The Medical/Safety Advisory Committee of USA Baseball was initiated due to the lack of injury data needed to make decisions affecting the safety of baseball participants. Prior to 2005 there has not been significant research comparing injuries to baseball pitchers from metal bats versus wood bats. In 2005 the USA Baseball Medical/Safety Committee initiated a three year research project comparing line drive baseball injuries to pitchers from metal bats and wood bats. Metal bat injury data were taken from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Injury Surveillance System and wood bat injury data collected from college summer leagues (NCAA recognized college summer league teams all use wood bats).

After two years (2005 and 2006) of collecting batted ball injury data to the pitcher from 93 NCAA college baseball teams and 246 college summer league teams there have only been 17 injuries to NCAA college pitchers and 15 injuries to college summer league pitchers. Only 32 injuries after 331,821 balls were hit into play (Balls hit into play are calculated by taking the number of at bats and subtracting strike outs and bases on balls). The injuries in the summer leagues were more severe than the NCAA injuries. One-third of the summer league injuries involved the head and face as opposed to none in the NCAA. The third year of the study will be completed in 2007.

What this data does indicate is that injuries to the pitcher from batted balls are very rare and can happen while using metal or wood bats. There is no data to indicate that the few catastrophic injuries to baseball pitchers from metal bats would not have happened if the batter was using a wood bat. Before any sport makes rule changes, equipment changes, or other changes related to the safety of the participants, it is imperative that these changes are based on reliable injury data and not anecdotal information.

On Monday Oct 1 Mets superstar Carols Beltran made a surprise visit to RGMVM Little League. Carlos is a close friend with hitting coach Gabby Martinez. Gabby was giving a clinic down at Seither Stadium. Gabby and Carlos spend over 2 hours giving the kids a hitting and fielding clinic.

Then Carlos signed autographs for all the kids. Carols also took batting practice of his own and did long toss with coach Gabby. Gabby Martinez and Greg Modica are doing baseball clinics every Saturday in October at RGMVM Seither Stadium..
