Next Season
Since its inception MPS 90 has competed in the top divisions of the NCSL or the Colonial League of Region 1. For academic, sports medical, and athletic reasons MPS 90 has decided to join a growing number of area teams sitting out the club league during the spring high school soccer season.
This does not mean, however, that club soccer activities come to a screeching halt for MPS 90 team members. Au contraire, MPS 90 players train 3 times a week to hone in on individual and team weaknesses. Players unable to make team practices will be asked to practice individually or in small groups in accordance with pre-arranged individual curricula. The entire effort is geared to make the individual players and the team as a whole a better product for college schowcasing next fall.
A number of like minded premier level team coaches have opted to forgo the traditional league play for a better and more controllable environment in an Informal Spring League. MPS 90 will play 6 to 10 competitive games against top level local teams as well as premier teams from Virginia Beach, Richmond, and Charlottesville. . All games will be played on a premier surface, have professional referees, and will have college coaches invited to come watch.
In addition, MPS 90 has and will continue to scrimmage local, out-of-state and even out-of-country teams. After having played a visiting U-18 travel team from North Carolina, MPS 90 took on the Toronto Winstar in front of a sizeable number of college coaches from Division I, II, and III schools. Efforts are under way to reciplicate the visit this Summer and play the Winstar and a few quality teams from the Toronto area on their home turf.
Soccer Camps
2 MPS 90 players were fortunate to be invited to participate in the 2007 Adidas ESP Soccer Camp held at the California State University of Pomona. Only 4 players from the entire state received this honor. The 2008 Adidas ESP will be held in Denver, Co from July 3-8. Again, 2 MPS 90 players have been nominated...
