Stratton Woods Park Master Plan - See the Proposal Here

Good news - lighting the 90 foot diamond at Stratton Woods was included in the revisions to the park's Master Plan.  Don't assume the lights are done deal though - we have been down this road before only to be disappointed.  Keep letting your representative know how you feel by send an email during the public comment period.  Read below for the latest:

The formal comment period for the proposed Stratton Woods Park Master Plan Amendment has closed. The Park Authority has reviewed the input received for the project and made revisions to the proposed Master Plan amendment presented April 28, 2009 The Fairfax County Park Authority will hold a community meeting on Wednesday June 17, 2009 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Frying Pan Farm Park Visitor Center Auditorium, located at 2709 West Ox Road in Reston, to present the revised Master Plan Amendment and staff recommendations. This community meeting will allow for the community to review the final Master Plan Amendment proposed for Stratton Woods Park. Additionally, representatives from Park Operations, Community Recreation Services and the Hunter Mill Police District have been invited to attend and be available to answer your park management questions. The revised final proposed amendment recommends:

* Lighting the 90' Baseball Diamond; * Removal of the basketball court and replacing with a sand volleyball court and picnic shelter; * Installation of a lighted outdoor court complex for racquetball and handball in the current location of the sand volleyball court; * Lighting the existing tennis courts and parking lot

These recommendations have taken into consideration community input received, park facility usage needs in the Hunter Mill District, best practices for field allocations and resource utilization, and future recreation opportunities for County residents. Please come by the meeting and let us know your thoughts.

Public comments will be accepted on these revisions until Wednesday July 1, 2009 and can be sent via e-mail to: parkmail@fairfaxcounty.gov . Written comments should be mailed to Pat Rosend, Project Manager, Planning & Development Division, Fairfax County Park Authority, 12055 Government Center Parkway, Suite 406, Fairfax, VA 22035. After this public comment period ends, the revised plan amendment and public comments will be presented to the Park Authority Board for final approval consideration.

Thank you for your continued interest in Stratton Woods Park. Pat Rosend, RLA, AICP Project Manager Stratton Woods Master Plan Amendment
