Monday, November 2 - All Fields are CLOSED for the Winter

Have a great off-season.  We will see you during winter clinics and the spring season.

Field Closures: General Information

Please check this page weekdays after 3 PM to determine if fields are open. Closed fields means the entire field is closed - including the outfield areas unless it is specifically stated otherwise. Cages at Crabtree may be used even if the fields are closed.

This site will document all decisions made by all field closing authorities.
There are 3 authorities regarding field closure:

  • Fairfax County for Fred Crabtree Park (formerly known as Fox Mill District Park) (Fields 1 & 2), Reston North (aka NorthPoint, Fields 1 & 2), Stratton Woods (Field 3) and all elementary schools (703-324-5264 or Fairfax County website)
  • Reston Association for all other fields (703-435-7982)
  • Reston Little League for all fields on weekends (on this website)
Neither games nor practices should be held if field conditions are such that usage may increase the risk of injury to players or may cause damage to the field. Seek shelter (typically in cars) if there is lightning, and remain sheltered until 15 minutes after the last sighting. If a game has begun and is umpired, the umpire-in-chief is the sole authority on game stoppage, whether temporary or permanent.

Monday thru Friday Field Closure Procedures
If this site indicates that no decision has been reached, team managers should proceed to fields to determine field conditions. They may contact the game scheduler or his rep to provide him with the field status so it can be posted to the web site.

Saturday Policy for Rain Outs

Typically (but not always), neither Fairfax County nor Reston Association determine field closures on weekends.  So as to ensure quick distribution of news regarding Saturday rain outs, the following policy is being put into effect:

1) First check this site for information.  It will be updated as early as possible (usually by 8AM) by the game scheduler or his rep, as he gets info from commissioners and coaches checking fields.

2) T-Ball & A Ball: If fields are closed on Friday and the web-site does not say otherwise, Saturday pre-noon games/practices are cancelled. Status of games starting at noon or later are up to the League Commissioner and Field Commissioner. If the Commissioners do not open the fields, they will remain closed.

3) AA/AAA/Majors (Browns Chapel, Running Cedar, Stratton Woods, Fred Crabtree Park): Managers shall meet two hours prior to the scheduled start time to determine the field condition (this should be done throughout the day if there is a chance previously closed fields may dry under a warm sun). They will contact the scheduler or his rep to provide him with the game status so it may be posted to the web site.  If the Reston Association Hot Line specifically notes their fields as closed on Saturday, then the fields will remain closed.

4) It is possible that late rain on Friday night will cause closure of fields on Saturday. This will be posted as early as possible on the website so as to preclude the need for managers to check the fields.
