HISTORY OF RED WING BASEBALL
(Past)

Amateur baseball has always been popular in Red Wing dating back to 1870 when the first town team was established. In 1909, Red Wing was awarded a professional franchise in the Class D Minnesota-Wisconsin League but this experience turned out to be dismal and the franchise folded in 1911 killing baseball in Red Wing for a few years. 1916 again brought back amateur baseball to town. Enthusiasm was back and in 1935 a team from Red Wing (Schacht's Insurance) won Red Wing's first ever Minnesota State Championship. It wasn't until 1946 when the Red Wing Amateur Baseball Association was officially formed that the name "Aces" came to be. Amateur baseball continued to thrive but when professional baseball came to the state in 1961, amateur ball took a nosedive. By 1965 Red Wing again was without amateur baseball.

(Present)
The present day Red Wing Aces were reborn in 1971 when a group of interested and determined individuals re-organized the association. Since then, Red Wing has appeared in 22 State Tournaments, won 3 State Championships, finished as runner-ups 2 times, co-hosted 4 MBA State Tournaments, 20 Dewey Tauer Invitational Tournaments (billed as the premier mid-season amateur baseball tournament in the state) and developed into one of the better amateur baseball associations around.

Today the Aces are members of the Classic Cannon Valley League and Section 1B of the Minnesota Baseball Association. All ACES home games are played at the Red Wing Athletic Field aka "The Ath" co-host of the 1985, 1991, 2001 and 2006 Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tournaments. Admission to non-league games is free and while there is a minimal charge for league games, area businesses (see sponsors page for listing) do distribute free tickets at their sites. So...grab a treat (or a meal) at the concession stand and relax in the covered grandstand, take part in an Aces tradition and find a spot for your lawn chair down the first base line , or catch some sun in the outfield with the ACES "Bleacher Bums". As Bill Veeck once said "Ballparks should be happy places." Come on up and enjoying some of the best amateur baseball around.

...No contracts, no signing bonuses, just guys playing the game they love.
