West Point's Murphy Signs With Redlegs

Brockton MA- The Redlegs have announced the aquisition of the USMA's CPT Timothy Murphy (South Boston) to a multi-year deal. With the signing the Redlegs now have an answer to the Hanscom "Academy" line and Center Brian Rogers (Air Force Academy). The diminutive Center will anchor the first line with SSG Chris Cobb and SGT Tom Latham who lasted a week and a half at UMASS Dartmouth before lifestyle decisions forced him into the workforce. Captain Murphy will be the first West Point Varsity Hockey player to lace them up since Father Hurley skated with the Artillerymen at the Bridgewater Ice Arena.  Although the Red Line does not have a stop in Foxboro, Captain Murphy will be skating with the Redlegs every Wednesday at 0630 at the Foxboro Sports Center

Double D and Andy Bell Pace 'Legs in Day Two
Vegas Ticker- The Redlegs have finished third overall and will begin their quest for an unprecedented fourth Armed Service title on Saturday. In Friday's first game the Artillerymen built a 5-2 lead with 1:24 left on the clock. After a series of bizzare plays the Travis AFB Jets tied the score with two seconds left, reminiscent of last years semi-final shoot-out. In game two the Redlegs decided to rest key players like the Colorado Senator, Bill Fenstermaker and Bobby "Clubber" Lane in the penalty box. With Double D Dan Doherty and Andy Bell pacing the action the Legs cruised to a 5-4 win, and earned a seventh straight playoff berth.

REDLEGS Finish Pool Play

Las Vegas- When the final buzzer sounded the MAARNG Redlegs realized they have played themselves into Division 2, with the opportunity to win the Noble Eagle flag, as opposed to the Red Flag they usually compete for.

Game 1- The Legs couldn't shake off the jet lag losing to the US Navy Maritime Forces 4-1. Getting the lone tally was Bobby "Clubber" Lane with a nasty slapshot off the post and crossbar beating the talented Navy tender.

Game 2- After splitting time between the pipes SFC Patrick Burke went the distance against Grand Forks AFB turning away 36 shots and grabbing an all important point with a 2-2 tie. SSG Chris Cobb scored the first goal taking a feed from brother Andy and Johhny Wiggin. The Warriors then tallied the next two goals until Scotty Frank took over. On one shift the diminutive defenseman broke up a scoring chance in his own zone then walked in from his point to pot the tying goal earning himself the game MVP bottle opener..........

Game 3- A well rested Danny Calis took over net-minding duties against Minot AFB as the Legs faced their second North Dakota squad in so many days and gained their first victory 7-5. Calis stood tall in a shoot-out as both defenses took the morning off.  The line of Lemaire, Fenstermaker and Lane scored two goals as did the line of Jared Chambers, Blake Wilson and Dave Rucker, Wilson getting both and gaining himself the coveted bottle opener MVP. The first line of Cobb, Cobb and Wiggin dominated play in both ends.

'LEGS Win Battle, War Next
Las Vegas NV- The last hurdle to the finals past them, the Redlegs will face Nellis AFB on Sunday October 8th for the Red Flag title. A questionable scorekeeping system had the Redlegs coming in 2nd overall after going 3-0 in round one. After playing a penalty free game on Friday the Semi Final game was marred with a total of 21 penalties. The majority called against the Legs. Travis AFB put up another valiant fight and the game was closer than the 8-3 final would indicate. Sadly the game was played 5-3 for most of the contest with PFC (P) Chambers once again occupying the box like it was a timeshare with Double D Dan Doherty and All-World D-Man Billy "OB" O'Brien...even Sean Noonan got two calls against. Scoring for the resurgent Gun Bunnies were Pete Fiorentino with two, Mike Barrett, Bullett Bob Coleman and Johnny Wiggin. Billy O'Brien also scored on an amazing 150 foot blazing slapshot that took the wind from the Falcons sails. Player of the Game honors went to the netminder Jim Billie who once again made big save after big save.

'LEGS Sweep, Pistol Pete and Johnny Wiggin Net Tricks, Playoffs Next
Las Vegas NV- A 24 year old record has been broken. The Redlegs have completed a game with zero penalties..yes zero. In the first ever matchup between the Kirtland AFB Shadows and the Redlegs the Cannoneers came out on top 9-2. Pete Firentino and John Wiggin led scorers, each getting a hat trick, also with a goal and two assists was Mike Barrett who continued to anchor the top line. Jamie Chambers also scored a very late goal. Adding to the assist totals were Stephen Macleod, Bullett Bob Coleman, John Lester (3) Patrick Burke and Scotty Frank. With the sweep the 'Legs await their first playoff opponent.

Friday, October 6
REDLEGS Win Rematch
Las Vegas NV- A 0800 HRS start and a rematch with the Luke AFB Falcons were on tap for the Redlegs on 6 October. When the dust settled the Commonwealth Artillerymen topped the much bigger Falcons 9-2. Tom Lester and Sean Noonan dominated play, Lester potting two tallies and adding two assists while Noonan got the trick and added an assist. Defenseman Scott Frank scored again and contnued his strong play. Gary Jewell got to take a penalty shot after being pulled down from behind, Jewell beat the keeper over his left shoulder with a quick snap shot. Also finding their way to the score sheet were Mike Barrett and Boss Hog MacLeod who's back hand goal was considered highlight reel stuff. Adding assists were Jamie Chambers, Billy O'Brien and coming in with two was Pistol Pete Fiorentino

Friday, October 6
REDLEGS Win Opener
Las Vegas NV- The Redlegs opened the 2006 ASH tournament with an 8-5 victory over the Hill AFB Falcons A Team. Jim Billie was a standout in net with Billy "OB" O'Brien controlling the blueline. The first line of 1LT Mike Barrett, Dan "Double D" Doherty and Johnny Wiggin kept the high fying Falcons in check while getting goals from Wiggin and Doherty with Barrett assisting on both. The second line led the team in scoring with SSG Sean Noonan getting the hat trick. John Lester added an assist and was a stand out with CPT "Pistol" Pete Fiorentino adding a beautiful touch assist. The defense corps scored two goals, Scott Frank scoring on a blast from the point and Team Captain SFC Patrick Burke added the back breaking 8th goal cutting short the Falcons come-back attempt. The third line came up with assists from MSG Gary Jewell, SSG Bob Coleman and COL Steve "Air Mac" MacLeod. The new rules put some of the Redlegs at a disadvantage, most notably LTC "BH" MacLeod and SGT Jamie Chambers who spent some time in the box

Streak Snapped Redlegs Fall
Las Vegas NV- While finishing 3rd overall in the 3rd Annual Armed Services Hockey Tournament would be a victory for most teams, it was a bitter dissapointment for the Massachusetts Artillerymen. Finishing 3rd meant a Division 1 ranking, placing the depleted and hung over Redlegs with the likes of Hanscom AFB, Hill AFB Aeros, and Minot AFB (ND). In the first game of the DIV 1 finals the Redlegs took a Southie beating from the top Hill team 8-1. In the DIV 2 championship the Redlegs fell to Minot AFB 6-2. Check back on Monday to see the greatt pictures and bio of this years player of the tournament, SSG Christopher Cobb.

Cobb and Murray Propel Redlegs
Las Vegas NV- The Redlegs outlasted Travis AFB 12-3 today in Vegas. The game was tied 2-2 after the first period when the Redlegs finally woke up and exploded for 10 unanswered goals. SSG Chris Cobb had a hat-trick along with SSGT (102nd FW) Jim Murray, who had a natural (3 straight)trick. Starting the scoring for the Artillerymen was "Bullett" Bob Coleman with a blistering slapshot from the left slot, Coleman actually stayed on his feet after the shot, no wait a sec, he fell down. Two Redlegs scored their first career goals on Tuesday, SGT David Rucker moved around two defenders and snapped off a crisp low shot for the final tally while SFC Billy Murphy (3rd player of game) let loose a cannon from the point. SGT Tom Sousa added a goal and continued his fine play. MSGT (102nd FW) Brian Joyce added two goals while SSG Lou Pimental added an assist. SFC Patrick Burke stopped 29 of 32 shots, stretching his Las Vegas streak to 4 wins and no losses.

Fall River Boys Lead Redlegs Over Hill AFB 7-4
Las Vegas NV- Lou Pimental notched a hat-trick as the Redlegs got off to a good start in their quest to become three time ASH champs. Pimental barely edged out SGT Tom Sousa for game puck honors, who scored two goals, both on end to end rushes. Adding to the scoring was Alternate Captain SSG Chris Cobb who had a goal and an assist. MSGT (102nd FW) Brian Joyce added an assist while SSGT (102nd FW) Jim Murray contributed a goal and two assists. "Bullet" Bob Coleman had a gift assist by deflecting a shot from the point to Murray who fed "Sweet" Lou Pimental for the final tally. Team Captain Patrick Burke stopped 26 of 30 shots for the victory.
