Fall League Wraps Up

The Becker Fall League wrapped up on Sunday and the Rebel Blue team continued to look impressive as they won twice and finished the fall with a record of 8 and 2. In game one they dominated from start to finish, leading St. Cloud Apollo 21-9 at halftime on their way to a 39-21 victory. The Rebels led by nearly 20 for most of the second game until a late charge by Brainerd made the final score 39-29.

Defense ruled the day for the Rebels as they got numerous steals and scores by tipping opponents passes and turning those tips into easy transition baskets.

The Rebel Silver team broke through in dramatic fashion to gain their first win of the fall on Sunday. After jumping out to a 17-9 lead against Zimmerman, the Silver team led the Thunder climb back in early in the 2nd half and with just a couple minutes remaining Zimmerman took their first lead of the game. As the Silver team trailed 24-23 with 9 seconds left, they threw the ball in bounds and found Cassie Allender open for a look at a 3 with 5 seconds left. The shot was off, but Alexis Alexander grabbed the rebound and knocked down an 8 footer in the middle of the lane at the buzzer to secure the 25-24 win.

Game two was not as good of an outcome for the 8th graders as they played a strong Howard Lake team. The Lakers were in last year's state tourney and they looked the part as they disected the Silver team for much of the game. Even in the loss though, the Silver team showed they were getting smarter and beginning to understand what it takes to compete at the high school level.

The White team was losing in the 2nd half of their first game by double digits, but I do not have final scores for either of their games or for the JV teams. If anyone would like to send them to me, I'd love to post the results.

Up next for the Rebels is the beginning of practice for the 2009-2010 season. We are all looking forward to a fun and rewarding experience!
