Real Phoenix Football Club: Current News
Real Phoenix, Yucaipa (CA) All Stars and a local league champion to visit Kino Sports Complex North Grandstand.
Tucson, AZ (Monday, April 15, 2013) — Today FC Tucson announced it has filled in the final three slots in its 2013 home schedule. Two of the club’s three non-PDL matches will be against Real Phoenix (June 15) and the Yucaipa (CA) All-Stars (July 16). The opponent for the third non-PDL match, to be played July 6, will be determined through a special champions league-style tournament to be announced on Wednesday. All three matches will be held at the Kino Sports Complex North Grandstand and will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
“We’re expecting all three teams to challenge us and make us better on the field,” said FC Tucson head coach Rick Schantz. “We wouldn’t schedule them if we didn’t think they could help us be a better club. Over the course of a season it can be tough to get playing time for everyone on the roster and these extra matches will ensure everyone stays sharp.”
Real Phoenix, led by manager Kevin Grub, was established in 2012 and has an indoor, outdoor and futsal program. As a member of the PASL Arena Soccer Leagues, Real Phoenix missed the playoffs by a match in 2012. The club, also known as “The Phoenix,” will join the NPSL in 2014 in addition to its indoor and futsal affiliations.
The Yucaipa (CA) All Stars, managed by player/coach Matt Dobson, is a club made up of the best players from the Yucaipa Premier League located in Yucaipa, California. The team was founded in 2012 and played its first match, a 2-1 loss, against USL Pro side Los Angeles Blues in 2012. In addition to FC Tucson, the Yucaipa All Stars are scheduled to play fellow PDL Southwest Division clubs Fresno Fuego and Los Angeles Misioneros.
FC Tucson’s July 6 opponent will be determined through a special champions league-style tournament that will be announced on Wednesday.
Fans can watch these three matches (and 7 PDL matches) by purchasing 2013 season ticket packages at www.fctucson.com. Ticket packages, which include tickets to all ten of FC Tucson’s home matches, are only $100 (Reg. $120) for adults and $80 for youth ages 3-12. Children under three do not need a ticket.
