Upsets on day 2 of playoffs

The second day of the post season saw the 2 lower seeds both take 1-0 series leads.  In the early game the NB Petro Hawks defeated the Regina Gold 6-0.  Winning pitcher JJ Poitras pitched the complete 7 innings allowing only 4 hits and striking out 10.  Poitras would also have a good night at the plate going 3 for 4 including 2 doubles and an rbi.  Dustin Bear would also go 3 for 4 with a double.  Jayden Isaac would go 1 for 4 with a home run and 2 rbi's.  Losing pitcher Steve Kwasnicki pitched 5 innings giving up all 6 of the Hawks runs striking out 9 batters.  Graham Melbourne would also pitch 2 scoreless innings.  Jeff Eastman had a nice night offensively for the Gold going 3 for 3.

In the late game the Muscowpetung Rez took advantage of a rusty Bulyea Rustlers team that has only played in 2 games since July 19 and not been on the diamond in over 3 weeks.  The Rez would take game 1 in a slugfest 12-10.  Winning pitcher Jonah Agecoutay threw all 7 innings with 7 strikeouts.  Leading the way offensively for the Rez was Ron Peigan who went 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored, a home run, and an rbi.  Ray Amyotte was 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored, a home run, and 3 rbi's.  Brian Poitras and Jay Larose would also homer for the Rez.  Losing pitcher Colin McLeod tossed 4 innings giving up 6 runs on 10 hits.  Starting pitcher Justin Sievert pitched 3 innings giving up 5 runs on 8 hits.  Offensively for the Rustlers Cory Krahenbil went 4 for 5 with a home run, 3 runs scored, and 3 rbi's.  Troy Gordon was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored.  George Flotre would go 3 for 5 with 2 rbi's.

Wednesday, August 27
Silver Screen and LBB take 1 - 0 series lead

The 2014 playoffs got underway Tuesday night with Silver Screen playing host to the Moose Jaw Giants.  Silver Screen would take game 1 by a score of 10 - 3 on the strength of a complete game from winning pitcher Ryan Decosse.  Silver Screen would get offensive help from Shane Graefer and Bart Mihalicz who would both homer in the contest.

In the late game we were treated to a pitchers duel.  Dustin Keshane threw a complete game shutout allowing only a hit and striking out 18 batters along the way to earn the pitching victory.  Meanwhile Dean Holoien was strong in defeat.  In Holoien's 6 innings of work he allowed 2 hits and struck out 14.  The big blow in this game was a 2 run home run off the bat of Dustin Keshane.  The 2-0 victory gives LBB a 1 - 0 lead in the series.

Monday August 25 Games Postponed

The playoffs will have to wait one more day to get underway as tonights games are postponed due to the rainfall yesterday.  There will be no changes to the weeks schedule other than the fact that the "if necessary" games on Thursday night will now be game 2 of the series.
