Raiders Wrestling: Welcome

ALUMNI UPDATE:

Raiders Wrestling has 7 kids wrestling in high school.

Junior Rob Ramos is wrestling 215 lbs for the Proviso West Panthers. He wrestled with us during his eigth grade year and is still working hard to break the Varsity line up his Junior Year. Look for Rob to compete with the Varsity Panthers this year.

Sophomore Nick Luburich wrestled with Raiders for 2 or 3 years before going on to St. Patrick's High School. Nick only had one loss while wrestling at a Sophmore Tournament. He earned the Freshman of the week award and is now wrestling varsity for the Senior heavy St. Patrick Shamrocks. Nick was on a Senior Heavy team and contributed on a team that qualified for the State Dual Team Finals.

Sophomore Chris Haney wrestled for Raiders for 3 years before wrestling for several other clubs and now is a Varsity Wrestler at Plainfield High School. Chris was 14-3 during his Freshman year on Varsity. Look for him to step it up even more this year.

Quite possibly our most talented Freshman class will start high school wrestling this year. Jimmy should compete for a Varsity spot at St. Patrick's High School and David Turner, Michael Santiago, and Michael Kessler will bring some wrestling experience to the Leyden Wrestling room.

Over the years we have had our wrestlers attend St. Joseph, Leyden, Wheeling, Stevenson, Antioch, Fenwick, St. Patrick, Elmwood Park, Montini and Proviso West. We expect our current 8th graders to feed into St. Patricks or Fenwick, Leyden and Lane Tech.

Imagine if this team all wound up at one high school...next wrestling season (2004-2005 team) could look like this...

10 of the 13 weight classes could have been filled by former Raiders. Definitely would be a competitive team with the right coaching and off season program...Two kids never lived in the Leyden area...would they have moved into the area??? The world will never know...

Congrats to State Qualifiers - Jimmy Coduti and David Turner. Both will be headed off to high school. Jimmy will join Nick Luburich at St. Patrick's and David will attend Leyden with Michael Kessler and former Raider Michael Santiago. David was one win away from placing at the State Tournament. Just to get out of Sectionals he had to beat a two-time State Place winner and defeated one of the ranked wrestlers during the wrestle-backs.
