Radnor-Wayne Little League: FAQs
Info about transitioning from Majors to Juniors and Seniors for baseball players
After the last year playing Majors baseball on the small field, the Little League program continues for the 12's in the fall, but on the big 90 foot diamonds. They play in "Juniors" combined with the age group ahead of them. Juniors is for 13-14 year olds and is no longer a house league. It plays surrounding townships on Saturdays and Sundays only. RWLL typicalls fields around 4 teams in the Spring and a team or two in the Fall. In the Spring, the teams may be split between a Varsity and a JV (or an A & a few B's). We generally have 14-16 boys on each team and batting is no longer continuous so some will sit out portions of the game, although there are very liberal rules about re-entry. There are no cuts. The season ends mid June but there may be a tourney into July.
In addition to the Juniors program, Williamsport has just announced a 50-70 division for 12/13 year olds. Details for RWLL are still on the drawing board as we dont have an official 50-70 foot field. Stay tuned for details as they emerge.
After Juniors, there is "Seniors" for 15-16 year olds. At this age we are lucky to field a team in the Spring and generally haven't fielded a team in the fall. Again there are no cuts, no continuous batting (once-again there are liberal re-entry rules), we play surrounding townships on Saturdays and Sundays. The season ends mid-June but a tourney may run into July.
In addition to the Little League program, Wayne is fortunate to have a great American Legion baseball program. Legion has three core teams. "Prep" which is for 13's, Junior Legion for 14 and 15's and Senior Legion for 16-19 year olds. Additionally depending on demand, there may also be a Sandlot level team for just 14's or a Cadets level team for just 16's. Sandlot teams and Cadet teams really depend on how many boys tryout. There are cuts for Legion ball and expectations are high for the boys to make every practice and every game. The season offcially runs from mid-May to mid-July, but non-league games are typically scheduled earlier than that and playoffs can run into late July. The teams play virtually every Saturday and Sunday and average 4-5 games per week so there are weekday evening games. See the attached websites for more details.
