College Athletic Recruiting
Once you have entered the ninth grade, NCAA college/university coaches, alumni, and booster representatives are restricted from contacting a "prospective student-athlete" (either by mail, phone, or in person off campus) until at least the student-athlete's Junior year. After September 1 of your Junior year, you may receive letters. Personal contact or phone calls can only be made to you on or after July 1 after completion of your Junior year of high school. (Regular admissions programs designed for all prospective students, including non athletes, are not part of these NCAA restrictions.) Additional restrictions apply after you become a "recruited prospective student-athlete" as to the number of contacts, paid visits to campus, etc., especially if you are being recruited in more than one sport.
For more information check with the NCAA Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete.

Video Skill Tapes & Player Information Sheets
Since high school and college seasons overlap, most college coaches rarely have the opportunity to see volleyball players in action except at PIAA State Championships and USAV club volleyball tournaments. As a result, the video tape, player information sheet, and Club and High School coaches' recommendations have become the next best thing in recruiting.
Video skill tapes should be made for all players who intend on playing in college. This should be done in the fall of their Senior year, or in their Junior year if they are a varsity starter. (Care must be made not to make a video before the player is ready, or it may have an adverse affect)
Each video must contain:
1) A brief one minute introduction by the player herself (include name, height, position, years played, USAV club (QuickSet), high school, jersey numbers, personal & team honors, coaches' names.
2) Skills segment (serving, passing, setting, blocking, defense, hitting, & vertical jump - best skill first)
3) Game footage ( 10 minutes of continuous unedited play, if possible).
The player information sheet contains items such as: the player's picture , player stats & personal information, club and high school coaches names, addresses and phone numbers, player honors, volleyball camps attended, scholastic information, and potential college interests.
Normally a player's USAV club or high school coach (player's choice) will prepare a cover letter and forward it along with the video tape and player information sheet to the college(s) that the player is interested in attending.
As a member of QuickSet VBC, we will be glad to assist you in preparing the above; contacting college coaches, and sending in your recruiting materials. Any QSVC player who wishes to have a video skills tape made should contact Tim Dando at 570-276-6289 for assistance.
