About the Wildcats
The Wildcats were founded in 1997 by an energetic group of hockey moms who decided the kids shouldn't be the only ones having all the fun! Over the years a mixture of younger and older female athletes have been able to enjoy the learning, the camaraderie, and the thrill of friendly regional competition. We focus on the fun and we warmly welcome players of all levels.

Our home rink is Prince William Ice Center, located in Dale City, Virginia, about 20 miles south of Washington DC. The Wildcats are members of USA Hockey, and currently compete in the Mid-Atlantic Women's Hockey League (MAWHL). This league includes several skill-level divisions to accommodate everyone from novices to highly advanced college and international level players! Our league games are divided between home games at PW Ice Center and away games around the Washington/Baltimore Metro area.

Have ice hockey experience or would like to learn? Contact Lori Krist or Pat Lyons. Also, check out the Adult Hockey Skills classes at the PW Ice Center; there are plenty for the novice or advanced skater.

Wildcats Win in Season Finale

The Wildcats end the season on a high note, beating the Blizzard 1-0. The Blizzard proved to be a tough opponent, and the two teams battled it out in a classic slugfest, even and scoreless, through two periods. With the play in the defensive zone and just under four minutes remaining in the game, defenseman Lori Krist cleared the puck. Wildcats center Casey Arnett, picked up the puck at the Cats’ blueline and went in on a stunning breakaway for a goal, and ultimately, the win. And just like that, the Wildcats had their hero!

Great game, Cats’!!! No time to rest though…

Next up: MAWHL 2009 – 2010 playoffs March 20 & 21! Full schedule coming soon…

Wildcats - Firestorm Grudge Match

It began as a tense night for the Prince William Wildcats who traveled to Rockville, MD to take on the Frederick Firestorm. In usual Beltway fashion, snarled traffic impeded the players’ arrival and delayed the game. When the puck finally dropped, the Wildcats had only half their players on the bench. The Cats rolled two lines, and played a defensive game until their team could arrive. When at last, the rest of the unit joined ranks on the bench, and the Cats settled in and focused on what was to become an intense game.

The Firestorm was the first team to score at 8:45 in the first period. Two minutes later, Margaret Batha, playing out for the first time this season, answered back with a sweet shot to put the Cats on the board. She was assisted by Michele Forte and defenseman Jenny Spencer. The Firestorm broke the tie later with two more goals, and went into the first intermission with a 3-1 lead.

The Wildcats came out strong in the second period with another goal by Margaret Bartha and assists going to Pat Lyons and Michele Forte. An interference call on Jenny Spencer put the Cats’ PK unit to task, which easily killed off the penalty. The Cats were successful holding the Firestorm goal-less in the second period. In the third period, Lezlie Lamb was called two minutes for tripping. This time, the Cats’ PK unit was unable to hold off the Firestorm which scored on the powerplay, making the final score 4-2.

Sharon Bark stood tall between the pipes, making some spectacular saves for the Wildcats once again. The Cats played a hard and fierce game; defensively solid, generating offense and plenty of scoring chances. Final shots on goal were Wildcats, 23 and Firestorm, 26. Wildcats’ coach Jason was quoted saying, “We’re firing on all cylinders tonight.” Indeed they were. Well played, Cats!

Next up: Wildcats host the Blizzard Sunday, March 7th at Cabin John Ice Rink in Rockville, MD. The puck drops at 8:55 a.m. LET’S GO CATS!!!
