Overtime Victory
PVI visited Cherry Hill West in an inter division Olympic Conference matchup on the final day of September. Going into the game with an 8-0 record, the Eagles paced much of the game with a great effort against a good Cherrry Hill West team. With 17 minutes remaining in the 1st half, Paul VI struggled to clear a ball out of their box and the West players did a good job of staying after it, and eventually put it past keeper Sarah Hinkle. It would be the first time all season the Eagles would trail in a game but it would not last long. Erica Graziosi would take a ball off Carla Chmielewski's corner kick and head it into the net less than two minutes later at the 15:44 mark. The Eagles continued to put pressure on the West defenders throughout the 2nd half but came away only with near misses. One goal was called back due to an offsides call and the game would be sent into extra time - golden goal. Following the 1st ten minute extra period, the score was still tie 1-1. Again most of the play was in West's end. With just over 2 minutes remaining in the final overtime period the Eagles would get their 8th corner kick. Becky Sparks would take the ball off her head and beat West's keeper and Brittany Ratcliffe would be on the end of it to make sure it was finished. The game was a true test for the players and they responded well to the stingy West defense. Tomorrow the Eagles host division opponent Seneca for their 2nd matchup of the season.
