07 & 08 ANNUAL LEAGUE AWARD RECIPIENTS
07 & 08 Annual League Award Winners
Esther, Shannon & Kim
Mickey East & I are proud to present the 2007 & 08, "Annual League Awards", to Esther Hubbard, Kim Griffo and Shannon Contri. These awards are given in recognition of their love of the game and their tireless efforts to support it. They have shown great SPIRIT, ENTHUSIASM and INVOLVEMENT in making our communities' tennis programs a solid and growing program.

Esther Hubbard - "The Rowland-East SPIRIT Award".  She is an energetic and supportive player.  She has really shown her SPIRIT these past 2 years working tirelessly on our Mixed Doubles Tournament.  Her SPIRIT and love for the game has had a tremendous positive impact in our community.  Before that Esther captained many Teams, supported many Local Events and has had a National winning team in 2002!!

Shannon Contri - "The Most ENTHUSIASTIC Player". She has enhanced our tennis community with her ENTHUSIASM.  She has captained a team many times.  Her ENTHUSIASM is what makes her great.  Shannon has worked tirelessly recruiting new players and raising awareness for the game of Tennis!!

Kim Griffo - "The Most INVOLVED Player". She has also been an inspiration with her INVOLVEMENT.  She has long supported tennis in our community.  For the past 2 years, she has been working on the Mixed Doubles Tournament.  Her INVOLVEMENT in that has had a great positive impact in our community.  Before that Kim has played and captained many teams and has always been a positive role model for tennis!!

These three people have gone the extra mile these past 2 years working tirelessly on the Mixed Doubles Tournament.  It is through their efforts along with many others that we had the Mixed Doubles Tournament in our area.
I hope everyone in the community appreciates these people as much as Mickey and I do. When you work hard, it is nice to hear that you are appreciated for your efforts. Please take the time to tell these dedicated people that when you see them.

In the next year, we will be looking for other people who have shown the same Spirit, Enthusiasm and Involvement. If you know of someone special that deserves recognition, please take the time to let me or Mickey know.

NEW FOR THE 2008 YEAR-END RATINGS
Effective for 2008 year-end ratings:  No Championship Benchmark, (District/Area, Sectional or National), rating may be appealed the first year after publishing.   This means only players who played locally can appeal their year-end rating!!
All year-end ratings, except Medical, will be appealed through TennisLink.  Anyone can appeal their rating. You, your captain or me can appeal your rating.  The process is easy and automated so you will know immediately if you have received your appeal.   If you feel uncomfortable about appealing I would be happy to do it for you.  Remember also, even if you did not get moved up but feel you are unable to play at your current level or would like to have an opportunity to play more competitively at a lower level you can appeal your year-end rating.
APPEAL PROCESS
Go to TennisLink's home page and click on "Find a rating".  Type in your USTA number and click "Go".  Your name and information will appear.  Make sure it is you and is correct.  Click on "Appeal Rating".  Click on the box for your zip code and enter it and click "Go".  A new window will appear.  Check the appropriate boxes and click on "Submit".  A new window will appear with your appeal either granted or denied with and explanation of why.
Captains:  Although you can appeal your teammates ratings, you must  get their permission first.  If you have any questions or need help please feel free to contact me at any time.

YOUR CTA NEEDS YOU
Purchase Area tennis is growing.  In order to better serve you the Purchase Area Tennis Association needs to expand.  We are looking for volunteers to be on specific committees.  The needs of tennis in the area have far outgrown what our small CTA can service.  Suggested committees -  Fundraising Committee, Windscreen Committee, Lights Committee, Annual Scott Thompson Tournament Committee............  If we have committees and divide up the task among many people it will not be a burden on a small few people.  Any suggestions or input on this subject would be appreciated and if you or someone you know would like to be involved contact any CTA representative.

LIGHTS AT SCOTT THOMPSON
This past month there was a glitch with the lights at Scott Thompson.  They were stuck in the on position.  Your CTA pays for those lights.  Please remember to turn them off when you are done playing and to call us when you think there is a problem with them.  It will save us a lot of money that could be going to many other tennis projects and programs.

CAPTAIN MENTORING PROGRAM
I am looking for current or past seasoned captains to mentor new captains.  It is difficult being a new captain and I am looking for volunteers to adopt a team and help them through their first season.  Contact me if you are willing to Adopt-a-Team!!

SUPPORT YOUR TENNIS ASSOCIATION
On both the "League" and "Certified Tennis Association" web pages you will find two new buttons.  The "Support our Team" and "Sportswear" buttons are on the left hand side of the screen.  The "Support our Team" button will take you to a page that you can order or renew any magazine subscription.  For every subscription you order or renew a small percentage will go directly to your CTA.  If you are going to order magazines do it here to help you local CTA.  These funds benefit all players of all ages in our Purchase Area.   This is an easy way you can show your support.
The "Sportswear" button is strictly to benefit you and or your teams with a place to order products with the "Purchase Area" logo.

USTA MEMBERSHIPS
USTA MEMBERSHIPS
***ATTENTION*** - USTA tennis players with family memberships
USTA Southern, is looking closely at each CTA and their membership numbers. In an effort to increase our membership numbers, we are asking you to do something for our CTA. It will not cost you anything, but it will help all of us in the long run. When you get or renew your family membership each year, sign up all of your family members.

The Purchase Area Tennis Association is working hard to provide tennis programs for the participants in Western Kentucky and West Tennessee. We appreciate each of you and will continue to create programs to grow tennis in our region.

WYNNE TOURNAMENTS
The USTA Southern Section is a sponsor of Wynne Tournaments. They would like to invite you and your teammates to participate in recreational tennis tournaments. You now have the opportunity to play in a national tournament without having to win a sectional or regional play-off.

Please call (888) 571-9944 to request brochures, registration forms, or additional information. This is a great opportunity to play in a fun recreational tennis tournament, spend time with friends, and escape the winter doldrums. Hope you will let all of your teammates know about this great opportunity.
