Thursday, August 6 PTR Salutes 2009 Aus-Prep Graduates The Push The Rock Basketball Club is extremely proud of its players who recently graduated from the Aus-PrEP Academy in July 2009. The Aus-PrEP Academy is the Austin Pre-Freshman Engineering Program, sponsored by Huston-Tillotson University for those sixth thru eight graders students who are interested in pursuing a career in Engineering. The program provides fundamentals in engineering through classroom instructions in the areas of logic, problem solving, writing, and algebra. The 10-week summer program, which included the above mention course, work along with field trips to Johnson Space Center, NASA, Prairie View A&M University, National Bridge Caverns, Houston Natural Science Museum, and Sea World. Seven current PTR players participated in this year’s program, which included Ms. Marissa Campbell, Ms. Aleeyah Burse, and Ms. Taylor Scott and four players from the seventh grade boy’s team, which included Jamal Sawyer, Brice Dudley, Jalen Martin, and Nosa Ebomwonyi, were part of the 2009 graduating class. Friday, July 31 PTR 6th Girls Place 8th at Prime Time National Championship The Push The Rock 6th grade girls, in its Prime Time National Championship debut finished eight out of 48 teams in their division. The Prime Time National Championship held in the greater Dallas area attracted over 600 teams from Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. Mr. Prime Time himself, Deion Sanders of the Dallas Cowboys was the Guest Speaker for the Opening Ceremonies. The National Championship was held on July 22-26. In the first game in pool play, PTR opened with an impressive victory over the Lady Hoops team by the scored of 40-10. Ashleigh Cooper poured in 14 points to help PTR get off to a good start for the tournament. PTR's second round opponent was the Bryan Elite team from Bryan, Texas. PTR had another dominating performance as Alyssa Washington scored 10 points and Kryshona Carter added nine in a 39-5 defeat of the Bryan Elite. The third round game proved to be the best game of the entire tournament, as PTR squared off against the Plano Run and Shoot. In a game that saw PTR jump out to an early 10 led, the Run and Shoot team fought back to take a one point led with 16 seconds left in the game. PTR forced a turnover with eight seconds left in the game. With game clock running down, Marissa Campbell made a perfect pass to Kara Teal, who missed the first shot, but grab her rebound and scored on a put back with less than one second in the game giving PTR a 36-35 victory. The victory help PTR go undefeated in pool play and gain the top stop in their bracket. Alyssa Washington had a monster game going eight for eight from the field and was perfect from the free throw line, as she scored 17 points in the victory. In the first game of bracket play, PTR took on Corsicana Select. PTR smothering defense lead to easy basket as PTR build an early 15 point lead and never looked back as PTR cruised to a 40-15 victory. Kara Teal led all scorers with 14 points. PTR's next opponent was the Houston Fast Break. Again, PTR got off to a fast start and finished strong to post a 23-8 victory. Taylor Scott, Kryshona Carter, Alyssa Washington and Kara Teal combined to score 20 of PTR's 23 points. In the final game of bracket play, PTR faced the Conway Lady Bears from Arkansas. The Lady Bears played in the championship game in the 2008 Prime Time Nationals and lost to the eventually National Champions Dallas Biddy. PTR keep the game close in the first half as the Lady Bears to an eight point led into the half. In the second half, the Lady Bears championship experience proved to be too much as the Lady Bears defeated PTR 42-25. Kara Teal led PTR with 13 points and Ashleigh Cooper added nine in the lost. The lost keep PTR out of the championship bracket round and put PTR into the bracket for 5th place. In the battle for 5th place, PTR first opponent was the Arkansas Lady Jammers. Like PTR, the Jammers lost their bid for the championship round with a lost to Texas Fury 2015. PTR got off to a good start and took an early eight point led and took a six point led into halftime. In the second half PTR watched its eight point led evaporate to a three point deficit. PTR had several opportunities, but could not capitalize due to untimely turnovers. PTR's shooting also abandoned them as they shot 22% (4 of 18) from the field. In the end, the Lady Jammers held on and defeated PTR 35-30. Kara Teal led PTR with 12 points in the lost. In the end, PTR presence was felt at Nationals. They went 5-2 and were the only team not from the greater Dallas area or Arkansas who advance to the final eight. The girls vowed to be back to Prime Time in 2010, with plans of capturing the Prime Time 10th year National Championship. Finally, congratulation to the Dallas Biddy team who capture the 2009 6th Grade Girls Division Championship with a victory over the Texas Fury 2015. Dallas Biddy also won the 2008 5th Grade Girls National Championship! Wednesday, July 15 6th Grade Girls Take Third at Georgetown Firecracker Open The Push The Rock 6th Grade Girls took third place at the Georgetown Firecracker Open held in Georgetown, Texas on July 10-12, 2009. The tournament was PTR’s final tune-up before the Prime Time National Championship scheduled for July 23-26 in Carrollton, Texas. This was the second tournament where the 6th grade team competed in the 7th grade division. PTR opened pool play against the Austin Lady Magic 7th grade team. PTR's poor play early allowed the Lady Magic to jump out to a 10-0 run to start the game and push the lead to 16 by the half. In the second half PTR play much better, but the big halftime lead was too large to overcome as the Lady Magic posted a 30-13 victory. The lost to the Magic was the first opening round game PTR had lost this season. In the second game, PTR faced the Hays Lady Rebel. Determine to get the opening round lost out of their system, PTR raced out to a 10 point halftime lead. PTR picked up its scoring and defensive intensity in the second half and held the Lady Rebels to four points for the game as PTR cruised to a 25-4 victory. Alyssa Washington led all scorers with seven, as Kryshona Carter added six in the victory. PTR's next opponent was the Austin Lady Wildcats. In a game in which neither team led by no more than five points, PTR held on to capture a 19-15 victory over the Wildcats. Kara Teal poured in nine points and had eight blocks shot. PTR finished pool play 2-1 heading toward championship play. In the championship round, PTR's opening opponent was the Cedar Park Timberwolves. In a game where PTR led for 39 minutes and 30 seconds, the Lady Timberwolves hit a three-point shot with 30 seconds left in the game to take a one point lead. PTR had an opportunity to win the game in the final seconds, but never got off a shot as the Lady Timberwolves defeated PTR by one point. The lost cost PTR an opportunity to play for its sixth championship in eight tournaments this season. In the final game, PTR squared off against the Lady Diamonds for third place. PTR wasted no time getting off to a fast start as they held the Lady Diamonds to four points in the first half. PTR continued to apply the pressure in the second half holding the Lady Diamonds to five second half points as PTR took the bronze medal with a 26-9 victory. Alyssa Washington led all scorers with eight points. Friday, July 3 6th Grade Girls Dominate at Prime Time Qualifer In preparation for the Prime Time National Championship later this month, the Push The Rock 6th grade girls competed in the Prime Time National Qualifier as a 7th grade team, and in doing so captured the 7th grade title. The qualifier held on in Austin, Texas on June 27-28, 2009. In the first game of pool play, PTR opponent faced the Corpus Christi Hot Shots. PTR got off to a slow start only converting five of its first 20 shots. However, PTR found it stroke just before halftime to post a 13-point lead at half. In the second half, PTR's hot shooting continued as they shot 75% from the field en route to a 39-14 victory over the Hot Shots. Kara Teal led all scoring with nine points. Alyssa Washington added eight points in the victory. In the second pool play game, PTR squared off against the Central Texas Triple Threat. In what was arguably PTR's strongest defensive game of the tournament, PTR held the Triple Threat to eight points for the entire game. Ashleigh Cooper, Marissa Campbell, Kara Teal, and Taylor Banks controlled both the offensive and defensive glass, limiting the Threat’s second chance points and defensive rebounds. Kryshona Cater who poured in 12 points led PTR. Ashleigh Cooper and Alyssa Washington each chipped in eight points. In the final pool play game, PTR would meet Hoops For HIM Fire. PTR continued with its pressure defense and strong offensive play, as they handed the Fire a 43-18. Marissa Campbell and Kryshona Carter each added 10 points in the victory. PTR completed pool play 3-0.As championship play began, PTR seemed determine to close out the tournament on a winning note. In the semifinals, PTR would face the Hoops for HIM Fire team who they soundly defeated in pool play. PTR made its first nine baskets to put the game out of reach early as they posted a 44-17 victory over the Fire. Kara Teal's 11 points led all scores. Kryshona Carter added eight to help PTR move into the championship game. In the finals, PTR and the Corpus Christi Hot Shots would battle for the championship. PTR was determining not to get off to another slow start as they did the first time these two teams played. PTR had its best shooting game of the tournament. Kryshona Carter, Taylor Scott, Kara Teal, and Taylor Banks combine to shot 14 for 14 from the field as PTR dominated the Hot Shots to post a 49-16 victory and capture their sixth championship of the season. PTR final tournament tune-up is schedule for July 10-12, 2009 at the Mid-America Youth Basketball tournament in Georgetown.
Wednesday, July 1 6th Grade Girls Shine at Tyrone Johnson Showcase The PTR 6th grade girls capture first place at the Tyrone Johnson Showcase held on June 19-21, 2009 in Austin. The Tyrone Johnson Showcase was sponsored Austin Elite and Austin Lady Knights sponsored the showcase. PTR opened tournament play against the Westlake Hoops Red. PTR's fast start was too much for the Hoops as PTR raced to an early 15-point lead and never looked back as they cruised to the victory over the Hoops Red team. In the second round, PTR faced off against the Cy Fair Shock. PTR used the same approach they employed against Westlake Hoops and jumped out to a big lead as PTR outlasted the Shock to advance to the third round. In the third round, PTR faced a familiar opponent in the TC Hoops. PTR's strong defense and deadly shooting helped PTR advanced to the championship game. The championship game was a rematch against the TC Hoops suffered their only lost to PTR in the third round game. In a game that saw PTR play almost flawless basketball, as they defeated TC Hoops and captured their fifth championship title of the season.
Thursday, June 25 PTR Boys Nab MAYB Juneteenth Extravaganza Tournament The PTR 7th grade boys captured their first championship of the season at the MAYB Juneteenth Extravaganza Championship held in San Marcos/Seguin, Texas June 19-21, 2009. PTR opened tournament play against the host team, the Seguin Hoops. Both teams started slowly as PTR built a slim four point lead at halftime. In the second half, PTR extended the lead to 12 points, but the Hoops cut the lead to five with two minutes remaining in the game. A clutch shot by Terrence Artis put PTR up for good as they defeated the Hoops 35-24. PTR has balanced scoring with Ryan Gaddy, Jalen Martin, and Lattrell Martin each scoring seven points in the win. In game two, PTR faced the Austin Wildcats White team. PTR defeated the Wildcats a few weeks earlier at the Georgetown Jammers tournament. PTR jumped out to a big lead early to take control of the game as they soundly defeat the Wildcats 69-33. Lattrell Martin poured in a game high 15 points. Quentin Wolfe, Stephen Moore, and Jalen Martin each added eight points in the victory. In game three, PTR faced the Austin Wildcats Gray team who they also played a few weeks earlier. In a game that saw PTR build a lead as big as 18 points, the Wildcats continue to fight back. But in the end PTR held on for a 41-34 victory over the Wildcat Gray team. PTR was lead by Jalen Martin and Lattrell Martin who both had 12 points to help PTR advance. In the final game of the day, PTR faced the Geronimo Panthers. PTR could not get into its game early due to poor shooting. PTR shot 31% (9 of 29) from the field in the first half to take a one point halftime lead. In the second half, PTR shot 53% and won a hard fought game 47-38 over the Panthers. Jalen Martin led all scores with 12 points. Lattrell Martin added 10 points and Chance Waz chipped in eight. With the win, PTR advanced to the championship game on Sunday. In the championship game, PTR faced the Hostile Herd from Hereford, Texas. Like PTR, the Herd was undefeated in bracket play. The game did not live up to the hype as PTR came to play PTR basketball. PTR raced to an early 15 point lead and cruised to a 46-19 victory over the undefeated Herd. Ryan Gaddy lead PTR with 11 points. Jalen Martin and Lattrell Martin each chipped in eight in the victory.
Monday, June 15 PTR 6th Grade Girls Accepts Bid to 2009 Prime Time National Championship The Push The Rock Basketball Club's 6th Grade Girl’s team has accepted a bid to the 2009 Prime Time National Championship held on July 22-26 in Carrollton, Texas. The Prime National Championship is the largest basketball tournament held in the State of Texas with over 700 teams expected to participate in this year’s national championship event. PTR is no stranger to the Prime Time National Championship. In 2007, PTR's Varsity Girls team won the National Championship in the 11/12 Grade Division. The 2007 team, made up from players from the Round Rock and Pflugerville area, went undefeated to capture the crown becoming the first female team from Central Texas team to win the Championship. The 6th grade girls are hoping to repeat the success of the 2007 team! Monday, June 8 PTR Girls Take Home Gold at the Jammers United Heritage Classic The PTR's 6th grade girls captured its third tournament championship in a row with a commanding performance at the Jammers United Heritage Basketball Classic in Georgetown, Texas on June 5-7, 2009. PTR flexed its muscle early on in pool play with victories over the Austin Lady Magic, Austin Wildcats Purple, and the Westlake Hoops Navy by a combine score of 107 to 21. PTR completed pool play with a record of 3-0 and their sights fixed on championship play. In the championship round, PTR continued its outstanding play with a quarterfinal victory over the Belton Lady Tigers. In the semifinals, PTR faced the Austin Wildcats Purple team who they soundly defeated in pool play earlier in the tournament. PTR got off to a quick start and never looked back, as they cruised past the Wildcats to advance to the championship game. In the championship game, PTR faced another familiar opponent in the Austin Lady Magic. This would be the third championship game between PTR and the Lady Magic this season. PTR started slow, but gained momentum throughout the game as they soundly defeated the Magic to capture their third championship in a row and their four title this season. PTR next challenge will come at the Tyrone Johnson Classic hosted by the Austin Elite at the Delco Center June 19-21 in Austin, Texas.
Monday, June 15 PTR Boys Take Third at Jammers United Heritage Classic The PTR 7th grade boy’s team needed five games on Sunday to take home third place in the Georgetown Jammers United Heritage Classic Basketball Tournament on June 5-7, 2009. PTR opened play with an exciting one point victory over the Austin Wildcats-Navy. In a game that saw PTR fight back from a five-point deficit with last than a minute in the game, a clutch three-pointer by Jamal Sawyer and a big free throw by Stephen Moore, set the stage for the final play. With four second left in the game, Quentin Wolfe hit the go-ahead lay-up to help preserve a 43-42 victory for PTR. In game two, PTR faced the Texas Select. The Texas Select jumped out to an early 10 led and never look back as PTR could only manage 28 points against a very good Texas Select team as they handled PTR 50-28 lost. In game three, PTR bounced back with a strong performance against the Austin Wildcats- White team. PTR got a strong game from Quentin Wolfe and Brice Dudley as PTR outlasted the Wildcats 43-27. PTR finished pool play with a record of 2-1.As championship seeded play began, PTR found itself as the five seeded in an 11 team bracket. PTR's first round opponent was the Austin Wildcats-Gray team. PTR handled their business and advanced to the second round where they met an undefeated Austin Wildcats-Silver. The Wildcats-Silver shot 80% from the field in the first half and built a 12 point lead. In the second half, PTR outscored the Wildcats by three points, but in the end the Wildcats-Silver defeated PTR by nine points. The lost put PTR in the loser’s bracket and would require the team to win three games over a five hours period. PTR accepted the challenge and posted wins against the Austin Wildcats-White and another epic game against the Wildcats-Navy team in which PTR won again on another last second shot by Brice Dudley to advance to the third place consolidation game against the host team the Georgetown Jammers. In the final game, PTR played its most all around game of the tournament, as they raced to an early 10-point lead and increased the lead to 20-points in the second half and cruised to a 17-point victory over the Jammers. PTR's next tournament will be the MAYB San Marcos/Seguin Juneteenth Extravaganza June 19-21, 2009.
Tuesday, May 26 PTR Flexes Its Muscle at Austin Lady Magic Invitational For the second week in a row, the PTR 6th grade girls capture it second title of the season at the Lady Magic Invitational Basketball Tournament in Austin, Texas on May 23-24, 2009. Coming off a championship at the Georgetown Fury Tournament a week earlier, PTR looked sharp entering the Austin Lady Magic Invitational tournament. PTR opened tournament play with against the Westlake Lady Hoops. PTR got off to a fast start and never looked back as the dominated the Lady Hoops and posted a 42-point victory. In the second game, PTR squared off against the host team, the Austin Lady Magic. PTR had faced the Lady Magic in the championship game the week before at the Fury tournament in Georgetown. With pressure defense, PTR got out to an early 10-point lead and extended the lead to 16-points at halftime. In the second half, PTR capitalized on turnovers and would push the lead to 25, as they cruised to a second round victory. PTR faced the Liberty Hill Lady Swoosh in its third round game. PTR used the same formula from its first two games by getting off to a fast start as PTR build a 20-point lead as they rolled finished off the Lady Swoosh and advance to the championship game. In the championship game, PTR once again faced the Austin Lady Magic. Down to only eight players, PTR flexed its muscle and made easy work of the Lady Magic in the championship game with a 33-10 victory. PTR 6th grade girls will be back in action on June 5-7, 2009 at the Jammers Invitational in Georgetown, Texas.
Tuesday, May 19 PTR 6th Grade Girls Roll at Fury Invitational Push The Rock 6th grade girls captured its first championship title of the season at the Fury Invitational Basketball Tournament in Georgetown, Texas on May 16-17, 2009. Coming off a long layoff and a disappointing tournament in Waco were the team went 2-2, PTR looked to rebound from its subpar performance. PTR entered the Fury tournament rested, focused, and ready to prove they were back. PTR breezed through pool play with convincing wins over the Killeen Lady Magic, Lago Vista Lady Vikings, and the TC Hoops. In the semi-final game, PTR faced the Cedar Park Lady Wolves. In a game where PTR could not get into an offensive rhythm, the defense would be the deciding factor. PTR's suffocating defense turned a 10-point halftime lead into to a 24-point victory. In the championship game, PTR faced the Austin Lady Magic. PTR was clicking on all cylinders as they jumped out to a 12-point lead and never looked back to capture their first title of the season. PTR next tournament is scheduled for May 23-24 as they compete in the Austin Lady Magic Invitational in Cedar Park, Texas.
Tuesday, May 19 PTR 7th Grade Boy Take Second at the Extreme CT Showdown PTR 7th grade boys took second place at the Extreme CT Showdown Basketball Tournament on May 16-17, 2009 in Austin, Texas. PTR opened tournament play against the Austin 360 Elite 7th grade. In a defense battle, PTR took the lead in the second half and held on to outlast the 360 Elite in a low scoring 22-16 victory. PTR was lead by Quentin Wolfe who scored eight points. Lattrell Martin added seven and Jalen Martin chipped in five in the victory. In the second game, PTR faced the Austin 360 Elite 6th grade team. PTR size and quickness was too much for the young Elite team as PTR rolled to a 64-25 victory. Jalen Martin led all scores with 15 points. Lattrell Martin added 14 points and Quentin Wolfe poured in 13 points. In the final pool play game, PTR faced an old foe, the Copperas Cove Crusaders. In a game that saw PTR take a 22-point lead in the second half, the Crusaders fought back to cut the deficit to just two points. PTR hung on to defeated the Crusaders 44-42. PTR was lead by Lattrell Martin, Ryan Gaddy, and Quentin Wolfe who each scored eight points in the victory. With the victory, PTR advance to the championship game. In the championship game, PTR faced the Austin 360 Elite 7th grade team, who they had defeated earlier in the tournament. In a game where that went back and forth in the first half, the 360 Elite led at the half by eight points. In the second half, PTR chipped away at the lead. PTR would cut the led to three points with just over two minutes left in the game. Two missed free throws by PTR could have cut the led to one. The 360 Elite scored four quick points to push the lead to seven. PTR never recovered as the 360 Elite posted a nine point victory and a championship. PTR was lead by Brice Dudley who poured in nine points. Lattrell Martin added seven in the lost. PTR 7th grade boy’s next tournament will be June 5-7, 2009 at the Georgetown Jammers Classic.

What a great weekend of basketball at the Push The Rock Spring Shootout 09 Basketball Tournament held on April 25-26, 2009 in Pflugerville, Texas. We had it all, buzzer better, overtime, last minute comebacks, you name it, we had it! But when the dust settled, we crowned seven champions as those who meet every challenge. The Push The Rock Basketball Club will be hosting the PTR Spring Shootout 2009 on April 25-26, 2009 at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville, Texas. The tournament is open to girls and boys, 5th grade through High School. The tournament registration fee is $250.00 per team. A 10% discount will applies if your organization enters more than one team. Entry fees are due by April 17, 2009. Tuesday, March 31 PTR 7th Grade Boys Open at Austin Wilcats Tournament The Push The Rock 7th Grade Boys team participated in the Austin Wildcats Tournament on March 28-29, 2009 in Austin, Texas. PTR open round robin play against the Austin Wildcats Silver. PTR jumped out to a 13-point lead in the first half, but struggled to maintain its lead as the Wildcats erased the lead in the second half. In the second half PTR went cold from the field and allowed to Wildcats to take a three-point lead with three minutes to play. PTR was unable to regain its offense, as the Wildcats posted a seven-point victory. In the second game, PTR's offense continued to struggled, but their defense can to the rescue as PTR held the Austin Wildcats Blue to 19 points for the game and posted a 29-19 victory. In the final game, PTR faced Rise Above from Dripping Springs. Rise Above jumped out to an early lead and took a five-point lead at the half. In the second half, PTR's cold shooting continued as Rise Above increased its lead. In the end, PTR could not overcome it poor offensive output as Rise Above dominated PTR the second half and cruised to a 14-point victory. PTR got a strong tournament performance from Quentin Wolfe, who was PTR Tournament MVP.
Tuesday, March 31 PTR Girls Open Season at Austin Lady Magic Tournament The Push The Rock Basketball Club opened its 2009 season at the Austin Lady Magic Tournament held on March 28-29 in Cedar Park, Texas. PTR had three of its four girl's teams participate in the tournament. PTR 6th girls advanced to the championship game in their bracket with wins over Westlake, the Elgin Lady Ballers, and the host Austin Lady Magic to advance to the finals. In the championship game, PTR came up four points short against the San Antonio Comets to take home the silver medal. PTR Varsity team also had a strong tournament, advancing to the championship game. In the championship game, PTR faced the Pflugerville Titans. PTR got behind early, but fought back take a one-point lead at the half. In the second half, the Titans used their speed and experience to outlast PTR to capture the title. PTR congratulates the San Antonio Comets and the Pflugerville Titans on their championships in their respected division!
Saturday, March 14 PTR Adds Two New Teams for 2009 Season The Push The Rock family is pleased to announce the addition of two new teams for the upcoming 2009 season. The 5th grade girls team and the 6th grade boys team will begin play this spring. The 5th grde girls are coached by Wendy Stevens. Coach Stevens is moving down from the 7th girl’s team to coach the younger girls. Coach Stevens will focus this season on building strong fundamental skills, while improving the basketball knowledge of her team. The 6th grade boy’s team is coached by James Wells. While Coach Wells is new to coaching with PTR, he is not new to the program. Coach Wells' daughter and son both played for PTR in the past. Please welcome the two new teams into the fold. Wednesday, March 4 Former PTR Named to American Southwest Conference Freshman Team Brittany Zamora, a freshman at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas was named to the American Southwest Conference West Division All Freshman Team. Zamora, who graduated from Vista Ridge High School in Cedar Park in 2008 and played for PTR 2007 17U National Championship team. In 28 games, Brittany average 8.3 points per game. She led the team in three point shooting (40%). Brittany was third on the team in free throw shooting at 81%. She average 1.4 assist and one steal a game. Brittany help HPU capture their third straight ASC Conference Championship. HPU will open its NCAA Division III against Transylvania University in St.Louis. Mo. Wednesday, March 4 PTR Players Lead Pflugerville to 5A Girls Playoffs The Pflugerville Lady Panthers have advance to the Girls 5A State High School Playoff on the strengthen of two current Push The Rock players. Sophomores Nneka Enemkpali and Adesuwa Ebomwonyi have been two important pieces to the Lady Panthers success this season. Nneka and Adesuwa and the Lady Panthers will continue their quest for a state championship on Friday, March 5th at the Erwin Center on the campus of the University of Texas against Houston Nimitz at 8:30 pm. With a win, Pflugerville will advance to the State Championship title game. Please come and support Nneka, Adesuwa, and the Lady Panthers as they make their run to another state championship! Friday, May 2 PTR 12U Boys Capture Magnolia Tournament Championship The Push The Rock 12U Boys captured its second championship of the season at the Magnolia Basketball Tournament held Belton, Texas on April 26, 2008. PTR opened round robin play against BTK from Belton. PTR played an almost flawless first half of basketball, jumping out to a 16 – 4 halftime lead and rolled to a 43 – 13 open round victory. PTR was lead by L Martin who scored a game high 14 points. S. Moore added nine, with B. Dudley and Q. Wolfe chipping in six a piece. In round two, PTR faced the Copperas Cove Crusaders. As in game one, PTR got out of the gate earlier and never looked back. With balance scoring and tough defense, PTR scored its second win of the tournament with a 40 – 12 victory. In the third round, PTR opponent was the Copperas Cove Mavericks. In a game that would go back and forth for most of the game, PTR pulled away with three minutes left in the game and posted a 39 -23 win to advance to the championship game. In the championship game, PTR faced the Copperas Cove Crusaders. The Crusaders jumped out to a 12 point lead in the first half, but PTR cut the lead to seven at the half. PTR trailed will three minutes left in the game, but key baskets down the strength by L. Martin and a clutch steal by T. Artis help preserve a 39 – 35 win for PTR. L. Martin led PTR with 13 points. Tuesday, May 6 PTR Boys Take Third at MAYB Cedar Park Tournament The PTR 12U Boys took a bronze medal at the MAYB Cedar Park Tournament held on May 3-4, 2008 in Cedar Park, Texas. PTR opened tournament play against the Elgin Ballers. Facing relentless pressure for the Ballers, PTR committed30 turnovers and suffered its first lost of the season 46 - 23. The 23 points were PTR's lowest scoring game of the season. Coming off its first lost of the season; PTR quickly rebounded in its second game with an impressive victory of Hang Time. PTR played sound defense and limited Hang Time to 19 points, as PTR posted a 34 - 19 victory. PTR got strong performances from J. Martin who had eight points and Q. Wolfe who chipped in with six. PTR faced a familiar opponent in the bronze medal game, the Dripping Springs Tigers. PTR faced the Tigers in there first tournament of the season. PTR again turned to its solid defensive pressure to take control of the game. PTR got a huge game from J. Sawyer who was four for four from the field and some clutch free throw shooting from T. Artis who was perfect from the free throw line, as PTR posted a 30 - 18 victory to take third place. Wednesday, April 23 Fuller Headed to Angelo State Pflugerville senior Jasmine Fuller is heading to San Angelo to continue her basketball career as she has committed to attend Angelo State on a basketball scholarship. Jasmine helped lead Pflugerville to the quarterfinals of the UIL Girls State Basketball Tournament. Jasmine also received post season honors with her selection to the 14-5A First team All District Team. In addition to being selected to the All-District Team, she was also selected to the Academic All-District Team. Jasmine is the fifth PTR player to receive an athletic scholarship. Teammate Amina Sawyer and Schera Sampson will be attended Stephen F. Austin on basketball scholarships. Brittany Zamora will attend Howard Payne University on a basketball scholarship. Amanda Van Dyke will attend the University of Texas on a track scholarship. Congratulations Jasmine! Go Belles!
Wednesday, April 16 PTR 12U Boys Open Season With A Championship After a four year absence, PTR boys are back! The PTR 12U boys opened its season by capturing a championship at the Mid-American Youth Basketball (MAYB) tournament hosted by ATX on April 12 - 13, 2008 in Austin, Texas. PTR, playing in a round robin tournament format, opened its season with forfeit win, over Texas Excel who failed to make its scheduled game. In game two, PTR faced a familiar opponent from the pass, the Austin Dawgs. PTR and the Austin Dawgs were regular foes when PTR fielded several boys’ teams. PTR got off to a fast start and never looked back behind the solid play from S. Moore who scored 16 points in the first half. PTR increased its lead in the second half and rolled to a 36 - 22 victory. J. Martin added seven points, while Q. Wolfe chipped in with six points. In what turned out to be the championship game, PTR played the Dripping Springs Tigers. PTR and Dripping Springs played a very close game and exciting first half, PTR took a six point lead into halftime. In the second half, the Tigers cut the lead to three points, but clutch free throw shooting from J. Martin who converted on seven throws in a row and a key steal and lay-up by B. Dudley helped PTR to a 36 - 29 victory and its first championship. J. Moore and J. Martin lead all scorers with nine each. L. Martin added seven in the victory.
Sunday, April 13 PTR Players Showcase Their Talent at High School All Star Game Several PTR players showed their skills at the Greater Austin High School All Star Game played on April 11, 2008 at the Austin Convention Center. Seniors LaJoya Brown from Stony Point, Amina Sawyer from Pflugerville, Schera Sampson from McNeil, and Brittany Zamora from Vista Ridge were among 24 girls high players participating in the first Annual All Star game played prior to the Austin Toros season finale. The Toros are part of the National Basketball Association Developmental League (D-League). The four PTR players all played for the North team who beat the South Team 56 - 44. Amina Sawyer was voted the All Star Most Valuable Player. Sawyer and Sampson will be teammate at Stephen F. Austin in the fall. Zamora will be attending Howard Payne University, while Brown is considering attending Texas Lutheran to continue her basketball career. PTR wish our former players well as they take their games to the next level.
Saturday, March 15 PTR Players Enemkpali, Sampson Named to All Central Texas Basketball Team Pflugerville Freshman Nneka Enemkpali was selected as "Newcomer of the Year" as a member of the All Central Texas Basketball Team. Nneka, a 6-1 post average 10 points and five rebounds a game for the Panthers who finished 31-6 and advanced to the UIL Regional Girl State Basketball Finals. Senior Schera Sampson was named to the second team All Central Texas Basketball Team. Sampson, who played injured most of the season, average 15 points and nine rebounds, and five block shots a game. Sampson ends her high school career as McNeil High School all time shot blocker. Sampson will take her skills to the next level in the fall as a Lady Lumberjack at Stephen F. Austin University. Tuesday, March 11 Sawyer Named to All-State Academic Team Amina Sawyer was named to the 2007-08 Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) 5A Basketball Academic All-State Team. Sawyer, a senior at Pflugerville High School, help led the Pflugerville Lady Panthers to the UIL High School Girls Basketball Regional Finals. Amina will be attending Stephen F. Austin University, in Nagadoches, Texas in the fall. FormerPTR player and Thrall High School standout Christian Daniels was also named to the 1A Academic All State Team. Christian will be attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock in the fall.Congratulations to Ms. Sawyer and Ms. Daniels for their academic accomplishment. The PTR family wishes both Amina and Christian the best. We are extremely proud of both of you! Wednesday, November 14 Sampson and Sawyer Sign Letter of Intent to Attend Stephen F. Austin in the Fall Schera Sampson and Amina Sawyer have played basketball with PTR since age 11. Now to two will continue as teammates as both have sign National Letter of Intents to play basketball for the next four years for the Lady Lumberjacks at Stephen F. Austin University in Nagadoches, Texas. Sampson, a senior at Round Rock McNeil High School and Sawyer, a senior at Pflugerville High School inked their letters on November 14th. Both players are very excited and relieved the recruiting process is over. Now the duo can concentrate on leading their respective high to the state basketball playoffs. PTR is proud of the accomplishments of Ms. Sampson and Ms. Sawyer. The PTR family wishes them the best as future Lady Lumberjacks Monday, January 28 PTR's Sampson Nominated for McDonald's All-American Team McNeil High School and PTR's Schera Sampson is a 2008 McDonald's All-American nominee. Sampson, who is averaging 15 points, nine rebounds, five blocks and three steals per game for the Mavericks this season, holds several records for the team - including most steals in a game (12), blocks (12) and most blocks in a season with 144 and during the current District 14-5A race. The senior has notched 17 double-doubles thus far and notched a triple-double against Stony Point January 8th. Sampson will be included in a pool of about 800 nominees for both the boys and girls teams. The final 20 players - 10 on the West team and 10 on the East - will be announced in late January or early February. The McDonald's All-American games are March 26 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Former members of the All-American team include Michael Jordan, Candice Parker and LeBron James. Congratulations Schera on this great accomplishment! The PTR family is extremely proud of you! Monday, January 28 VanDyke Headed to the "40 Arces" In Fall 2008 PTR and Connally High School senior Amanda VanDyke has made a verbal commitment to compete with the University of Texas track and field team, beginning in the fall of 2008.VanDyke was a double-medal winner at the UIL state track and field meet last spring, earning gold in the Class 4A shot put and bronze in the discus. VanDyke also has been a key member of Connally's basketball team the past two seasons. Amanda is one of the core PTR players of the PTR 17U team who begin with PTR as a fifth grader. Amanda, job well done! It shows that PTR players are multi-talented in several sports, but more importantly are academically strong in the classroom. Tuesday, February 5 PTR Zamora Howard Payne Bound PTR and Vista Ridge guard Brittany Zamora has committed to Howard Payne College in Brownwood, Texas. The 5'6 guard will bring her skills to one of the top Division III Women's Basketball programs in the country. Zamora was a four-year starter at Vista Ridge High School in Cedar Park, Texas. Zamora was named "Newcomer of the Year" in District 25-4A in 2004-05. Zamora has also been selected to the All-District Team since 2004. Zamora is Vista Ridge all time scoring leader. PTR is extremely proud of Brittany’s accomplishments and look forward to having an outstanding career at Howard Payne.
Tuesday, July 31 PTR 17U Girls Capture Prime Time National Championship Title The Push The Rock 17U girls completed its 2007 summer season by capturing the 2007 Prime Time National Championship held in Carrollton, Texas, July 26-29, 2007. Over 580 girls and boys teams from around the country participated in the four-day tournament. The games were played in the greater Dallas Metroplex area. PTR began its championship run by cruising through pool play with wins over the East Texas Lady Tigers, BCSC Lady Hornets, and the Houston Diamonds by a combined score of 191 to 90. PTR advanced to the championship round as the number one seeded team in its pool. PTR opened up championship play with a convincing win over the One-On-One Lady Cardinals, 52-15. PTR got balanced scoring, with Brittany Zamora leading the way with 11 points. Schera Sampson added nine, and Teniqua Gray and Jasmine Fuller chipped in seven a piece. PTR continued its momentum in second round as they faced off against the Houston Heatwave. PTR continued its amazing defense by holding the Heatwave to just eight points in the second half as powered its way to a 51-35 victory. Brittany Zamora led all scorers with 13 points, while Schera Sampson added 12 points. PTR next opponent was a familiar one, D-Nice from Dallas. PTR had faced D-Nice in the Denton Shootout two weeks earlier as PTR defeated D-Nice to advance to the championship game. In a game that was close throughout, PTR took a late lead and never looked back, in route to a 55-48 victory. Teniqua Gray, who will be playing basketball for the University of Louisiana-Monroe in the fall, turned in a clutch performance by scoring 18 points, but it was her defensive pressure that help PTR gain control of the game in the closing minutes of the game. Brittany Zamora and Schera Sampson each added 11 points. With the win, PTR advance to the semi-final round. In the semi-final game, PTR faced the undefeated Texas 300 team. PTR struggled in the first half, but was able to post a five point halftime lead. In the second half, PTR found its groove, shooting 66% from the field to gain a 47-29 victory over Texas 300 to advance to the championship game. PTR got a huge game from Courtney Martin, who led all scorers with 12 points. Teniqua Gray provided additional offense support with 11 points.In the championship game, PTR faced it rival the Fort Bend Stars. The championship game would be the third meeting between the two teams this summer. Fort Bend defeated PTR in their first meeting at the Cy-Fair Tournament earlier in the month, PTR would revenge its lost the following week with a win at the Denton Shootout the following week. In a game that played out like a great height weight fight. PTR throw the first punch by taking an early 12 point lead early in the game, but the Stars countered punched and battled back to cut the lead to four. PTR increased the lead back to 11 points in the second half, but again the Stars countered and cut the lead to two points. PTR went on an 8-0 run late in the game, which proved to be the difference as PTR held on to a 48-42 victory to claim the national championship title. The Prime Time National Championship was the crowning achievement of a wonderful season in which PTR captured four tournament titles and one second place finish in eight tournaments. PTR's combined record for the summer season was 39 victories and four loses. Coach Marty and Coach Wendy would like to thank all of the young ladies who played a role in this magical season.
