Sep 1 - Season Starts with a BANG
WOW - The Prospect Girls started the season in impressive fashion over the Conant Cougars, taking first in 9 of the 12 events. The first place finishes included Margaret, Julia, Amy A. and Liz in the Medley relay, Sarah in the 200 and 500, Julia in the IM and Breastroke, Margaret in Back, Molly in the 50. The 200 Free relay saw Julia, Amy A., Sarah and Liz victorious and the 400 was won by Margaret, KC, Molly and Sarah. Those names include a lot of freshman. In addition to these victories, diving also had a very good showing. Too bad Conant swim meters instead of yards. It is harder to tell how great your times really are. The Varsity score was 109 to 77 while the JV won 119 to 63, also showing 9 event wins.
Sep 8 - Knights roll over Pirates
That's nice. The Prospect girls won EVERY swimming event in their first home meet, against Palatine. Including relays, three wins were taken by Spacapan, both Andracki's, Liz, and Sarah. Very impressive. Though diving was not victorious, all 6 divers completed all of their dives. It was a very good showing. JV did not fare as well with a 66-120 loss. On to Viator's Invite.
Sep 10 - So close at Viator's Invite
Even though the Knights won five events, had no best finish less than 5th, set two meet records and had many girls swim personal bests, they could not defeat Viators final 400 free relay. Final score Viators 353, Knights 345. It was a very exciting meet with a loud crowd. The first place finishes included the medley relay, Julia in the IM and breastroke, Amy A. in the fly and Sarah in the 500. The 200 free relay dropped 3 seconds from their seed time. It is always good to bring home hardware!!!
Sep 11 week
On Thursday, Elk Grove's bus had an accident while driving to Wheeling. No girls were hurt, but the meet was cancelled.
Saturday Patriot Relays at Stevenson exposed the girls to some really awesome competition. Loyola was victorious with Stevenson and Lake Forest making their usual good showings. A DQ cost the Knights 38 points and 4th place. The scores in the Gold division were:
Loyola 292
Stevenson 290
Lake Forest 250
Warren 158
Rockford 156
Prospect 148
Cary Grove 120
In the Green division, St. Viators was victorious, so they will move up to the Gold division next year. Wheeling finished second.
2005 Season - Looking Awesome
The Prospect Girls swim team is showing promise and lots that's new; new record board, new (and badly needed) showers, and new swimmers and new divers. Even with the loss of 7 seniors from last year, excitement is high at practice.

Sep 28 - Knights on a Roll, defeat Wheeling
The Prospect girls had a fun night on Wednesday against the Wheeling Wildcats. Though the Knights did not win every event, the other events were won by WildKnight water polo players, including Beth and Patti. For the first time I have ever heard of, the Knights took the top three places in Diving with Tanya, Maegan, and Audrey. (click on the title above to link to the Daily Herald article)
The current three way tie of undefeated teams (Prospect, Rolling Meadows and Buffalo Grove), in the MSL East, will be cut to two tonight (Thursday) when the Mustangs meet the Bisons. Prospect swims against BG next Thursday and RM the following Tuesday. Note: Elk Grove forfeited their meet with the Knights after the bus accident on the way to Wheeling.
Update: On Thursday night, Rolling Meadows defeated Buffalo Grove in a very close and hotly contested meet. It wasn't decided until the 400 free relay, in which the Mustangs placed first and third. Final score RM-94, BG-92. The Knights will have to be sharp to beat BG next Thursday and they'll need every skill and powerful stroke to get past RM the following week.
Win at Hersey, Second at BG Invite
On Thursday, the Knights defeated the Hersey Huskies at Olympic pool. Though there was a lot of excitement throughout the meet, the most screams came during the JV 100 butterfly. The storms in the area apparently caused the power to fail, and the pool area weent black. This may be the first time I was glad that pool was so shallow so that the swimmers could simply stand up. Diving continues to improve. It is exciting to see so many girls compete. The Knights climber to 3-0 in dual meets and 1-0 in conference with the 112-74 score.
On Saturday, the Knights found another second place finish at the BG invite. Wins by the Medley Relay and Julia in the breastroke. Second place by 200 free relay, Sarah in the 500 and Amy in breastroke.
Cary Grove 398.5
Prospect 389.5
Bufffalo Grove 370
Rolling Meadows 271
Hersey 268
Jacobs 216
Elgin-Larkin 172
Dundee Crown 166
Whitney Young 46
Oct. 6 and 8 - Knights DEFEAT Bison, take 4th at Jamboree
Thursday night at Buffalo Grove, the Knights stepped into first place in the MSL East conference. Besides defeating the Bison, 96-90, Hersey stepped up and beat previously unbeaten Rolling Meadows. That left only the Prospect Knights as undefeated. The night started on an outstanding note with Prospect taking 1-2 in the Medlay relay. Amy W. touched out BG to take second place by 0.02 seconds. Important victories included Sarah in 200, Julia in 50 free, and breastroke, Amy A. in fly, KC in back, and the 200 free relay with Molly, Liz, Sarah, and Julia.
Saturday at the Hersey Jamboree, the girls were swimming a bit tired, but placed fourth. In the final event, the Knights broke 4:00 for the 400 free relay, but Cary-Grove was able to gain third place and push Prospect back to fourth. It was fun to see the Medley relay win and then have Amy and Julia take 1 and 2 in breastroke.
Mundelein-219 , St. Viators-198.5 , Cary Grove-192
Prospect-181 , Warren-168.5 , Buffalo Grove-110
Hersey-109 , Niles West-98 , McHenry-55
Elk Grove-22 , Oak Forest-21 , Fenton-21
On to Rolling Meadows!!!!
Oct. 12: Prospect WINS MSL East Division Championship
From the HERALD:
Knights enjoy this tie
Prospect claims first MSL division crown since 1974

Halfway through Tuesdays decisive Mid-Suburban East girls swimming meet, Prospect coach Dick Mortensen did not like what he saw against two-time defending division champion Rolling Meadows.
The first half of the meet we did not swim great, he said. I walked down the sideline and they looked like they had lost already. We have a lot of freshmen and sophomores and they looked kind of shell-shocked.
The Knights trailed as late as the 100-yard backstroke, but a strong finish ended the meet in a 93-93 tie.
That gave Prospect the MSL East championship, its first conference title of any kind since 1974. Prospect came in undefeated in division meets so Meadows, which lost last week to Hersey, had to win Tuesday to capture a share of the title.
Top to bottom, it was a team performance, said Mortensen, who admitted after his team threw him in the pool after the final results were read, It really wasnt one of our goals. It was lower on our list.
Trailing 80-76 with two events to go, Prospect surprised no one when Julia Andracki (1:07.43) and Amy Andracki (1:08.45) finished first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
However, when Lauren Fairburn placed third (1:15.49), it turned a potential 4-point lead into a 6-point lead.
We knew we couldnt beat their 400 free relay, said Mortensen after Meadows finished first (3:48.20) and third (3:58.41) in that event. What I didnt plan on was going 1-2-3e in the breaststroke and first in the backstroke. KC Dix redeemed herself.
Dix was disqualified in the IM for an illegal turn, but she came back to win the backstroke (1:04.43) to help cut her teams deficit to 4 points with two events to go.
Meadows, which hadnt won a division crown since 1980 before beginning its two-year run on top of the East in 2003, swam well enough to set three school records in the 200 (1:43.56) and 400 free relays and the 100 free by Elizabeth Holmes (55.5).
Colleen Briggs also set lifetime bests in both the 200 free (2:00.51) and the 100 free (56.52).
I have nothing bad to say about todays meet, said Meadows coach Monika Chaippetta. We were in front until the breaststroke and I expected that.
While the Mustangs would have loved to have made it three years in a row, they were not disappointed with the results.
We broke three school records and were not tapered yet, Chiappetta said. Our goal at the beginning of the season was to get some people through to state and break records, so were not done yet.

East teams battle behind Fillies, Vikes

Parked side by side outside the pool at Barrington High School on Saturday were the Prospect, Rolling Meadows and Buffalo Grove mini-buses.
Fitting, considering how competitive the Mid-Suburban East was this season.
The top four teams in the East continued their rivalry at this weekends MSL conference meet, which was won for the 14th time in a row by the host Fillies.
Barrington finished with 287 points for another comfortable victory. Fremd was a distant second with 202 points.
Behind them the competition was fierce, with newly crowned East division champion Prospect placing third with 164 points. Meadows was fourth with 135 points followed by Buffalo Grove in fifth place with 116 points and Hersey one point behind the Bison in sixth place.
Winning their first division title since 1974 the year girls swimming became an IHSA sport and the last time they won the conference didnt prevent the Prospect Knights from having a goal Saturday. Their objective? Finish first among East teams.
That was our priority and we wanted to put a little pressure on Fremd, too, said Prospect coach Dick Mortensen, whose team hasnt finished as high as third place since 1974. You look at the top 12 and theres usually two Fremd kids and two Barrington kids. As a team one of our goals is to be like Fremd and Barrington and do that consistently. Of course, they have pools.
First place was dominated by Barrington, which had five winners. Prospect managed two, with Julia Andracki taking first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.69) and 200 free relay (1:43.51) with Liz Dix, Molly Nordyke, Sarah Sohn and Andracki. Barrington had the fastest time in that relay but was disqualified.
Prospect was only 13 points ahead of Meadows after the 100 backstroke, but the Knights pulled away from the rest of the East in the breaststroke, which has become a marquee event in the MSL. Andracki, who hasnt lost that event this season, and her sister Amy gave Prospect first and third place (1:07.32) points. Barringtons Alexa Hamilton, who set the meet record in that event last year, was second (1:06.72).
Fremds Amy Funk was a double winner, taking first in the 200 (1:57.27) and 500 (5:12.19) free.
Meadows also had some standout performances led by Kari Monaghan, who dropped nearly 4 seconds in the IM.
Shes been swimming harder the last three weeks than she has all season, said Meadows coach Monika Chiappetta. Everyone was where they were when we came in. I was hoping for some time drops this week. Well have to do it in two weeks at sectionals.
Buffalo Grove freshman Erin Rodriguez won the IM (2:11.31) and placed third in the 500 free (5:14.84).
Hersey, which has been a very good invitational team in recent years, was on its East rivals heels all day.
We had a great meet, said Hersey coach Rob Lindgren. There was only one swim that was not a season or lifetime best. We continue to work hard and swim fast even while keeping up the intensity and yardage in practice. These girls have come a long way since August.
Hannah (Johnson) and Nicole (Gill) came up huge, as they always do. They keyed our relays and had great swims in the 50 free and fly.
Oct 29: Another Exciting Meet
WOW! The Prospect Knights girls swimmers continue to impress. This time it was at the Conference meet at Barrington, finishing third behind powerhouses Barrington and Fremd. In the first event, they took second place in the Medley Relay, showing their speed and intent. Then Sarah took 7th in the 200 free and Julia snagged 3rd in the IM. Liz displayed her strongest form of the season with a 6th in the 50 free and 4th in the 100. And neither of those were in the last (fastest) heat. Amy A. took 9th in the fly and Sarah had a 6th in the 500. The 200 free relay swam an awesome time and the Barrington team DQed to give the Knights first place. Man, did Dick have a BIG smile or what? Margaret just missed a medal with 7th in the backstroke. Julia took first in the 100 - breaststroke and Amy took 3rd behind Alexa Hamilton from Barrington. Amy and Julia are simply beautiful to watch in breastroke events. An 8th place in the final event, the 400 free relay, locked them into third place and first of the MSL East teams. Not bad for a team that doesn't even have a pool.
2005 SECTIONALS are Super for Knights

Totally Awesome - Four State times, five school records and third place team finish. Yes, the Prospect Knights had a good day at Glenbrook North Sectionals this year. Starting with diving, Tanya took twelveth, the best Knight finish in decades and with a school record score of 287.15. In the first swimming event, the girls took third with a State time and school record in the Medlay relay. Sisters Liz and KC, and Amy and Julia all swam strong legs. That record puts four family members on the record board, Dad-Ken, Uncle Chris along with Liz and KC.
In the 200 free, freshman Molly took 11th, dropping 3.9 seconds, and Sarah was only 2 seconds off a State time with a 6th place finish. Next, the 200 IM had Margaret in 11th and Julia, dropping 3.5 seconds, in a State time, school record, 3rd place. That record was 25 years old. In the 50 free Liz took 5th place with an amazing strong swim, accelerating the whole way, but missing the State time by 0.01 seconds. Then Amy was up for the 100 fly, finishing 9th. In the 100 free, Molly dropped 2 seconds and took 11th, and Liz, dropped 1.2 seconds for a 6th place finish. This time 0.5 seconds off a State qualification.
In the 500, Sarah took 5th and was just 2 seconds from State. The next school record was broken in the 200 free relay with Liz, Molly, Sarah and Julia finishing 6th. In backstroke, Margaret and KC finsihed 7th and 8th. The amazing sister act of Amy and Julia dominated the breastroke with 2nd and 4th place and both as State qualifiers. The last event, 400 free relay, included Molly, KC, Amy and Sarah, finishing in 7th place and dropping 2.6 seconds. This put Prospect in 3rd overall behind Stevenson and Glenbrook South. These girls are simply amazing. Congratulations to all the Prospect swimmers including the new record holders, State qualifiers, Sectional swimmers and the JV girls that came to cheer them on!!!!
See you at the State meet next week.
