HOME OF THE PSC EAGLES U-16 GIRLS: Welcome
Sunday, November 13
The Eagles finished their weekend on a high note winning there last two games following a disappointing loss in the opener on a beautiful fall weekend at the SoccerPlex.
ON Saturday the Eagles opened strong against the NY East #8 Rush Patriots, getting numerous shots on goal in the first half. However, none of them would fall. In the second half the Eagles were fighting against the wind. The Patriots opened the scoring with a goal on a free kick on what looked to be a bad call. Tori got a hand on the shop but it went in giving the Patriots a 1-0 lead. Not long after the Eagles got a chance at the equalizer when Jayme was taken down in the box. Unfortunately, the Patriots’ goalkeeper came up with the save. Shortly after a defensive miscue gave the Patriots their second goal. They added a third goal late in the game as the Eagles sent numbers forward trying to get on the board. Photos are here .
The second game on Saturday was against Lebanon Valley United, the #9 team in Eastern Pennsylvania. The Eagles got the first goal early in the second half on a perfect touch shot from Brittany from the right side, over the keeper into the net. Fifteen minutes later the Eagles got some breathing room as Sarah sent a ball through to Anna who broke free and beat the keeper to the far post . The score held and the Eagles got the win. Unfortunately, the Patriots beam Lebanon Valley, so the Eagles claimed second place and a spot against the New York East #9 Smithfield Kickers Revolution in the consolation round. Photos of the game are here
On Sunday the Eagles started strong against Smithfield. At about 10 minutes a breakaway by Kuensey won a corner. Sarah sent the corner into the wind and it fell short, but Julia lofted it across the face of the goal and Kuensey pounced touched the ball in at the far post, giving the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. About 5 minutes later Smithfield pulled even with a touch from the left side that went just over Tori’s hands and into the net . Anna gave the Eagles the lead again with a nice run and goal late in the corner, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead at the break. In the second half the Eagles had to fight hard for opportunities as the wind turned from a crosswind into a strong headwind. Despite that, the Eagles scored again when Kuensey sent in cross, Anna and the keeper collided, and the ball escaped to Sarah who one-touched it into the goal, giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Smithfield got one back later on a free kick from the 20. Tori made an acrobatic diving save on the well-struck kick, but Smithfield was faster off the line and pounced on the rebound. Smithfield got a few other opportunities, but good play by the Eagles’ defense, including a butt save by Julia, preserved the 3-2 win for the Eagles.
After the game the Eagles chilled while draining their legs after a good weekend of soccer, looking forward to next weekend’s trip to the CASL tournament.

The Eagles finished 1-2-0 at the WAGS Tournament this weekend, but still finished second in their division based on goal differential.
In the first game against AC Premier (#12 in NJ) they fell behind in the first 5 minutes, giving up an early goal on a corner. The hole was deeper after 15 minutes as the Eagles surrendered another goal on a counter. However, they adjusted to the turf and pulled even on two goals by Anna. Unfortunately, AC Premier added a third goal on a counter to take the game 3-2. Despite losing in their first game under new Coach Ali Andrjeweski, they played well, implementing the possession game they have been working on in practice and fighting hard for balls as they always do. In the second game against HBC Stars United (#11 in NYE) they fell behind 3-1 at half, with their only score coming off a header by Anna on a cross by Kuensey. At halftime Coach Ali admonished the Eagles for their lackluster play. Whatever she said worked. Julia opened the second half scoring with a goal on a perfectly placed free kick. Then the Eagles unleashed a barrage of shots, dominating possession, finding open players, changing fields, and fighting through frustrating no-calls, to score 5 more goals in short order and take a 7-3 lead. Anna, Kuensey, Jamie, Bri, Julia, and Leah all contributed a goals. The Eagles surrendered one last meaningless goal near the end of the game to take an impressive 7-4 win. Click Here for pictures.
The final game was against the Richmond Kickers (Va #4) on Monday morning at 8 a.m. The Eagles, playing with only 1 substitute due to injuries and high school team obligations, fell behind on a PK, but got it back on their own PK by Julia when Jamie was hauled down in the box. The Kickers pulled ahead 2-1 on a header off a restart. The Eagles looked like they scored the equalizer as the net shook after a Kicker’s defender cleared the ball out of the goal, but the referee ruled otherwise, and the Eagles went down 2-1 to the flight champion. The Kickers would have retained the flight championship even with a tie as a result of their two previous wins.
Overall, the Eagles demonstrated excellent possession and passing, improved in each game as they progressed through an increasingly tough field, shook off the rust of having not played together since August, and adjusted to the turf fields. However, they will need to tighten things up on defense in order to have better results at the upcoming Bethesda, CASL and Disney showcase tournaments.
