2011 Patriot Cup Champions Girls High School Division

A combined Prodigy U15 girls team won the High School Division championship this Memorial Day weekend at the Legends Patriot Cup Tournament in Lee's Summit, MO. Comprised primarily of girls from the Firebirds and Tornados with a few guest high school players, this 18-member squad was only one of a few state-wide to end their high school year on a winning note.

Led into battle for the first time as a team, Coach Derek Snook guided them into the final with a 2-1 record beating teams from Broken Arrow, OK (2-1) and KC Legends (3-0). The finals became a revenge game against a team from Owasso, OK who beat them in a rainy 1-3 pool game which saw multiple yellow cards, hard tackles, player injuries, and sideline warnings. The championship game was no different - except the outcome. Prodigy jumped out to an early lead using skill and team play to take a 2-1 first half on goals by Rachel Nincehelser. As the physical play intensified - 3 injured players came out - Prodigy went toe-to-toe with Owasso and was awarded a PK after a hard tackle in the 18. Brooklyn Breckenridge finished the PK for a 3-1 lead and the defense held strong till the nerve-wracking end of a 3-2 final. It was sweet revenge for the players who played the second half for "Nince", brutally taken out by a slide tackling goalie near the corner flag. What makes it all the more impressive for Coach Snook (aka "The Mad Scientist) was that his squad won with mostly a U15 team in a U16/17 division.
