Preston started the game off on an 8-0 run and never trailed in the game. After Elkins cut the game to 14-13 with a little under five minutes to go in the first half it was the defense that slammed the door shut. Preston ended the half on a 16-1 run and essentially ended any thoughts that Elkins had of winning the game. The Preston offense started off slow with several uncharacteristic turnovers which allowed the Tigers to get with in one point before the defense ignited the deciding run to end the first half. The second half was more of the same as Preston outscored the Tigers in every quarter. Elkins never scored more than 8 points in any quarter of the game. Preston won the game 57-30. Preston now moves to 9-2. The Preston defense forced 20 turnovers and held the Tigers to 20% shooting in the contest. Individually everyone did their part in the win. The three Preston seniors dominated the scoring as Carly, Jessie, and MJ outscored the entire Elkins team by 18 points by themselves. MJ Braham led all scorers with 23 points. She also added seven rebounds and six blocks. Carly Kelley overcame some rare shooting struggles and attacked the rim to help get her 13 points. Carly went to the foul line ten times converting on eight. Carly added five rebounds, four steals, and three assists for an all around good game. Jessie Feather has continued her good play with yet another double double. Jessie finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds as she continues to give the Knights another inside threat. Kaitlyn Workman continues her assualt on the career and single season assist records with six more assists in the contest. As a junior, she is now only 12 assists away from the career record and only halfway through the season she is only eight assists away from the single season record. Kaitlyn worked on the defensive end as well adding six steals in the contest. That mark is good enough to make the top ten single game records as well. Karlee Good did her thing as well scoring five points, four rebounds, a steal, and an assist. Alexis Schoolcraft continues to do her job of filling in all the holes and doing a little bit of everything. Lex finished with two points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Emma McClelland was able to come back after missing the previous three games due to injury. She was able to test out her ankle and provide quality minutes in scoring two points and an assist as she makes her way back to full health. Game balls go to the seniors and Kdub. Game Schedule for the Knights Thursday January 31st -- @ 545 -- Preston vs. George Washington If lose then Preston will play on Friday February 1st @ 2pm vs. Parkersburg South/Nicholas Co. If win then Preston will play on Saturday February 2nd @ 4pm vs. Parkersburg South/Nicholas Friday, January 18 #8 Preston Pulls Away From Grafton The turnover difference was enough to overcome a poor shooting night for the Knights. Preston only committed nine turnovers in the game while forcing the visiting Bearcats into 17 turnovers. Preston erased a one point halftime deficit to win the game 46-31. It is only the third time all year Preston has trailed at the half. PHS was 0-2 in the only other contests where they trailed at the half. PHS is 7-0 when leading at the half. Poor shooting hurt the Knights in the first half as PHS shot a whopping 12% from the floor from 2-point range and just 17% from the floor total in the first half. In fact Preston did not make a shot from the floor in the second quarter. Preston's team defense would keep them in the game until the shots would fall. PHS defense held the Bearcats to only two made field goals the entire first half. Grafton scored 11 of their 15 first half points points from the foul line. The second half was all Preston as the Knights started to hit some shots and outscored Grafton 32-16 in the second half. Jessie Feather led the Knights in scoring as she recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Carly Kelley made her return to the lineup by scoring 12 points on four three pointers. MJ Braham, who faced constant double and triple teams in the first half, had to change her attack and showed other parts of her game by pulling the defense away from the basket and be a passer and help her teammates exploit their mismatches to help the team. MJ managed seven points, six rebounds, six blocks, and two assists while setting screens to help the guards penetrate into the lane. Alexis Schoolcraft hit two big second half shots for six points to go with five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Karlee Good added five points to the Knights cause. Kaitlyn Workman did not score but she directs the team in all phases. K Dub finished with a team high six assists and a team high three steals to go with six rebounds from the point. Game balls go to Carly Kelley and Jessie Feather. Preston record now stands at 8-2 and will next travel to Elkins. Monday, January 14 Preston Wins at Liberty The short handed Knights shook off a slow start and won going away 47-25 against Liberty. Playing without Carly Kelley and Emma McClelland the Knights focused on defense and shutting down Liberty's leading scorer. Liberty's leading scorer came into the contest averaging 17 points a game but was held to just eight vs. Preston. Preston held Liberty to single digits in three of the four quarters. MJ Braham led all scorers with 20 points (16 in the first half) to go with 10 rebounds, five blocks, and five assists. Karlee Good scored 12 points and two steals. Kaitlyn Workman scored five points but was all over the glass with 10 rebounds and five assists. Jessie Feather contributed eight points and six rebounds. Alexis Schoolcraft rounded out the scoring with two points and four assists. Game Balls go to MJ Braham, Karlee Good, Kaitlyn Workman. Sunday, January 13 Big Ten Team Statistics As of 1/13/13

Friday, January 11 #11 Preston Outlasts #7 North Marion Maxpreps ranked #11 Preston defeated the #7 ranked North Marion Huskies 60-48. North Marion came into the contest with the Big Ten Conference's best scoring offense. the Huskies came in averaging 67 points a game. Preston came into the conference boasting the Big Ten Conference's second best scoring defense. PHS came in just giving up 41 points per game. Preston improved their record to 6-2 on the season. With a decided height advantage the Knights pounded the ball in the paint all night and the Huskies had no answer. After Trailing 7-4 early the Knights used a 10-0 run in the first to get the lead after one, 19-14. An 8-0 run to open the second quarter by the Knights put the game into their control The Preston posts would lead the way on this night. MJ Braham scored a game high 20 points to go with eight rebounds and five blocks. Jessie Feather had her best game notching a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jess added five assists as well. Carly Kelley added the outside support for the Knights scoring 13 points (three 3-pointers) to go with three assists and three rebounds. While there was so much attention by the North Marion defense paid to MJ, Carly, and Jessie, Alexis Schoolcraft was able to exploit mismatches for the Knights and contributed nine points and four rebounds. Kaitlyn Workman was the "quarterback" once again for the Knights. K Dub scored two points but added nine assists and four steals. Karlee Good filled in everything else for the Knights contributing three assists and two steals. The win was the third ever win against the Huskies for PHS. It was also the first time the Knights have beaten the Huskies in five years. Game balls go to MJ, Jess, Carly, Lex, K Dub, and KG. It was a great team effort to get the win. Friday, January 11 Preston-Bridgeport Go Down To Wire In Top Ten Matchup The #10 Preston Knights and #2 Bridgeport Indians game came down to the final seconds of their top ten matchup. Unfortunaltely for the Knights it was not to be as Bridgeport escaped with a 53-51 win. Bridgeport jumped out to a lead early and was up by six after one quarter of play. The second quarter belonged to the Knights as Preston came back and led let in the half by one. A foul and two free throw attempts by Bridgeport with less than a second left in the half allowed the Indians to go in to the break up one 23-22. The second half would mirror the first. The third quarter saw Bridgeport extend their lead to eight points. The fourth saw the Knights fight back and tie the game at 40 with three minutes to play. PHS would trail by two but had the ball with ten seconds left in the game but it wasn't to be for the Knights. The biggest difference in the game was the disparity in the free throw department. Preston only shot eight foul shots on the evening (converting on six). Bridgeport attempted 24 foul shots (converting on 17). PHS made more shots from the floor than the Indians but it was not enough to overcome the foul line. MJ Braham led the Knights in scoring 21 points connecting on 5 of 8 from the three point line. She added seven rebounds and five blocks. Fellow senior Jessie Feather had a break out game with 12 points and nine rebounds. The third senior Carly Kelley also scored double figures. Carly was held scoreless for the first three quarters but erupted for 11 points and five rebounds in the final quarter. Alexis Schoolcraft added four points and four rebounds. Kaitlyn Workman hit a three pointer for her points and also had six assists. Karlee Good had an assist and Emma McClelland had a rebound. Game balls go to MJ and Jessie. Wednesday, December 19 Varsity and JV schedule update on December 19th Due to the cancellation of the Lewis county game on December 10th a new game has been added to the schedule. February 4th Philip Barbour High School has agreed to come and play the Knights at PHS. As usual JV will start at 545 and varsity 730. The December 28th game at Grafton has been moved to January 7th to accomodate the Bearcats who have been asked to play in a tournament on our original date. This includes jv and varsity The JV will also add two games due to the games that the varsity will play in the Big Atlantic Classic. The Preston JV will play at Trinity on January 8th. Trinity will return the trip at PHS at a date yet to be determined. Wednesday, December 19 Preston Improves Record to 4-1 With Win vs. the Huskies It was a total team effort that allowed the Knights to get out of Maryland and back in to West Virginia with a win. Preston was able to hold off a pesky Northern Garrett, MD group and win 78-58. It was a hard fought victory as the Huskies would not go away. However, every time the Huskies tried to make a run someone for the Knights always had the answer. Preston used a lot of defensive pressure in the first quarter to jump out to a 24-12 lead. Preston was able to extend that lead to 42-26 at intermission. Preston outscored the Huskies by nine in the third and went into the final period with what seemed like a comfortable 58-33 advantage. Northern made several attempts to close the gap but every time they threatened to get the Knight lead down to 10 PHS answered. PHS scored 20 more points in the fourth to keep them at bay and win by 20. The Preston defense forced a season high 26 turnovers on their opponents. The Preston offense shot a season best 43% from the floor. Preston also faced their first game with foul trouble as two players would foul out and two more would finish with four fouls. None of that mattered as the Knights found a way. Karlee Good scored a career high with 21 points (including five three pointers) and finished with a team high (tied with teammate Jessie Feather) four steals. MJ Braham who constantly faced double and triple teams as well as had to sit for long stretches due to foul trouble still finished with 17 points. She also contributed five rebounds, five blocks, and three assists. The Northern gameplan for a large portion of the game was to play a box and one defense on Carly Kelley to stop the sharpshooter. Their plan did not work as Kelley was still able to manage 16 points (three three's) as well as contributing two steals and assists. Senior Jessie Feather did a little bit of everything as she turned in what seems to becoming a typical Jessie Feather game. She scored eight points, a team high 10 rebounds, team high four steals, three blocks and two assists. Another "typical" performance that seems to be happening is Kaitlyn Workman and her assists. Kaitlyn scored two points but continues to be doing a great job quarterbacking the group on the floor. She finished with nine assists (3rd out of five games of at least nine assists or more) to go with eight rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Alexis Schoolcraft continues her upward trend with her performance as she scored a career high of nine points. Lex also tallied four rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist. Fellow sophomore Emma McClelland battled a very painful deep thigh bruise which limited her mobility and provided quality minutes. Emma hit a big shot in the fourth quarter and added an assist. Tiffany Sanders hit her first career varsity three pointer for her three points. It was such a great team effort so I am going to take the easy way out and give a game ball to the whole team. There were no weak links for the Knights. Everyone played their role and everyone stepped up at different times throughout the game to lead the team. When someone else was hitting everyone complimented their teammates as well. Wednesday, December 19 Preston Dominate the Bees; Kelley Sets Record Preston returned home to face East Fairmont and came away with a dominating 62-41 victory. Preston actually held a 35 point lead early in the fourth before coasting to the win. Preston now stands at 3-1. Carly Kelley got the festivities started early as she hit her first of five three pointers of the first quarter 26 seconds into the game. That three was also important for Carly as that three made her Preston High's all time leader in three pointers made in a career. As a team Preston also tied a school record in making nine three pointers in one game. Including eight in the first half which would be a record for three's in a half. Karlee Good and Emma McClelland hit two each to go with Kelley's five. Kelley finished with 15 points. MJ Braham scored double figures as well with ten points to go with a career high four steals. Kaitlyn Workman had a career high with 10 assists (2nd all time for a single game for PHS) and a career high with eight points. Jessie Feather contributed another solid game with eight points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Karlee Good just missed double figures as well with nine points and Emma McClelland added seven points which ties her career high and four rebounds. Alexis Schoolcraft added four points and five rebounds. Tiffany Sanders scored her first varsity point. Game balls go to Carly Kelley and Kaitlyn Workman. Wednesday, December 19 Preston Win vs. Buckhannon Preston shook off a terrible first quarter to dominate the next 16 minutes and put the game out of reach in route to a 48-19 win at Buckhannon-Upshur. Preston couldn't do much right in the first eight minutes and trailed after one 5-4. The start of the second quarter brought out a relentless defensive pressure. Over the next two quarters Preston held B-U to eight total points including shutting the Bucs out completely in the third quarter. During that time PHS was on a 38-8 run. The final quarter saw the Knights and Bucs play even as Preston was able to get five Knights (Savanna Ash, Dixie Shahan, Abbie Miller, Tiffany Sanders, and Marlee McCrobie) their first ever varsity experience. MJ Braham proved to be more than the Bucs could handle on her way to a great game. MJ missed her second career triple double by one block. MJ finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 blocks. Carly Kelley also scored in double figures with 10 points. Sophomore Emma McClelland had a breakout game with seven points. Jessie Feather contributed four points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Kaitlyn Workman tallied six assists, five rebounds, and four steals as her defense ignited the Knights early in the second quarter. Sophomore Alexis Schoolcraft added three rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Karlee Good had five rebounds and three assists. Abbie Miller scored on her first varsity shot as she hit a three pointer from the corner. Vanna Ash scored one point for her first varsity scoring. Dixie Shahan had an assist and a steal. Tiffany Sanders had a rebound. Preston now stands at 2-1. Game balls go to MJ Braham and Emma McClelland. Wednesday, December 19 Poor Shooting Cost PHS vs. #1 The Preston Knights lost a hard fought game 44-31 to the #1 team in the state. Preston managed to only shoot 27% from the floor and 47% from the foul line against Morgantown. Preston held MHS to 23 points below their season average but PHS also scored 26 points below their season average. The loss drops the Knights to 1-1. Preston trailed by six at the half 21-15. the deficit would stay around the 8 to ten point difference throughout the second half until the final outcome. Jessie Feather led the Knights in scoring with 10 points and added five rebounds. MJ Braham had nine first half points for her total and also contributed 10 rebounds and 6 blocks. Carly Kelley had two three's for her six points. Karlee Good added a three pointer and two foul shots for five points and Alexis Schoolcraft finished the scoring with a point to go with six rebounds and three assists. Kaitlyn Workman had four rebounds and three assists and Emma McClelland added a rebound. Game balls go to Jessie Feather and Alexis Schoolcraft. Sunday, December 9 Congratulations Congratulations to Junior Kaitlyn Workman who was inducted into the National Honor Society today. She joins teammates Jessie Feather and MJ Braham into the group. Monday, December 3 Preston Wins Season Opener Preston won its season opener by defeating the visiting Washington Patriots. The final score was 57-45. This was the first meeting ever between the two schools. PHS held an eight point lead at the half but could not get comfortable as the Patriots put several runs together in the second half to keep it close. Every time Washington would cut the lead to within four points though Preston had an answer and would quickly get the lead back out to double digits. The foul line would make the difference at the end as Preston finished the game 15/22 from the line while Washington could only convert on 5/13 attempts. Karlee Good came off the bench to lead all scorers with 16 points but it was her play on the defensive end that provided the spark early in the second quarter. "KG" finished the game with four steals. Carly Kelley added a hard fought 13 points to the Knights cause as the Patriot defense tried to blanket the shooter wherever she went. MJ Braham added yet another double-double as she finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds to go with three assists. Jessie Feather had a solid game with eight points and seven rebounds. Junior point guard Kaitlyn Workman scored three points but made her presence known with a game high eight assists to go with six rebounds. Sophomore Alexis Schoolcraft making her first career start added three points and seven rebounds while fellow sophomore Emma McClelland hit a big shot to start a run for the Knights in the third and tallied two points and an assist. Game Balls go to Karlee Good and Kaitlyn Workman. Monday, November 26 Big Ten Preseason Poll 1. Bridgeport (9) 135 pts. 2. Fairmont Sr. (3) 121 pts. 3. Robert C. Byrd 117 pts. 4.
