POWER SURGE 96 FINISHES TOP 20 AT COLORADO 16U FIREWORKS TOURNEY

Power Surge 96 just finished playing in the pretigous Colorado Fireworks College Showcase tournament in Denver, Colorado.  This tournament is the premier College Showcase in the country with over 200 colleges attending to scout the players.  For our very young 14u team playing in the 16's it was sure fun looking up and seeing the Head Coach of UCLA, Kelly Inouye-Perez, and her Assistant Coach, Lisa Fernandez, watching the games.  They were one of hundreds of college scouts that attended.

As for the tournament we played very well, especially playing 16u at 43 feet for the first time this summer.  We finished in the top 20 going 4 wins 2 losses and 1 tie.  In our Pool were the eventual 2nd and 4th place finishing teams in the tournament.  A tough Pool I would say.  We by the way finished 2nd in our Pool.

Power Surge now has an invite to this tournament for years to come.  That will only make our organization stronger and stronger over the years to be in such a prestigous tournament.

WHERE WILL POWER SURGE 96 GO TO NATIONALS......ASA NATIONALS IN MIDLAND, TEXAS, OR PREMIER NATIONALS IN SO CAL????

The answer to the question above is ASA NATIONALS IN MIDLAND, TEXAS!!  We are very proud to be able to represent SoCal and Power Surge in the biggest Nationals there is.  It will be tremendously exciting as it always is to play teams from all over the country.  Power Surge plans to have a target on its back but we are used to that.  We are going to Midland to compete for the title of National Champion.

Sunday, June 19
POWER SURGE 96 EARNS BERTH TO PREMIER NATIONALS THIS WEEKEND

Power Surge 96 earned its berth to Premier Nationals this past weekend in the Premier Nationals SoCal Qualifier going undefeated.  Power Surge played very well scoring 20 runs and giving up only 3 in three games.

Another feather in the hat of this great team.  The Power Surge 96 tradition is firmly entrenched and this years team is keeping that tradition going with its great play.

POWER SURGE 96 QUALIFIES FOR ITS 4TH CONSECUTIVE ASA NATIONALS

Power Surge 96 finished 4th in this years SoCal ASA Qualifier in Lancaster, Ca.  Having only a week and half of practice that is not a bad result.  But not the result we wanted.  We now have two months to get the team back on track after the high school seasons for the girls.  Practice will be focused on getting us ready to compete for the title at Nationals.

As for the tournament we performed pretty well finishing 6-2.  The two games we lost were both 1-0.  Guess we better hit more in practice.  We did score 55 runs and gave up only 12 in eight games.  Not bad but not good enough.

POWER SURGE 96 STARTS SUMMER SEASON WITH A BANG

Power Surge 96 started the Summer 2011 season in amazing fashion, even setting an unofficial Power Surge record.  Power Surge had a fantastic tournament at the Mission Viejo Triple Crown Tourney finishing 2nd.

The interesting part of this was that due to being dark for high school season our team played in this touranment without a practice.  We met on the fields and played our hearts out.  Was not sure at all how we would play, especially against the younger 97 teams who have been together all year.  But we proved we are ready now, which is amazing without practice, as we won 9 games lost 2 and tied 1.  That is a whooping total of 12 games in a tournament and we think a Power Surge record of 7 games on the final day without a break staring at 8am and finishin at 8pm.  Ouch!!!!

As I have said over and over these girls continue to amaze me!!!!

LOOKING FOR AN IMPACT PLAYER

Power Surge 96 is looking for an impact player or two. We are looking for someone who can come in and immediately contribute to our National Caliber team.  We are in all the major College Showcases and will try to win a national title this summer.

Please contact Scott Berndes at berndess@aol.com if interested.

POWER SURGE 96 CHAMPIONS OF LAST TOURNEY BEFORE HIGH SCHOOL SEASON

Power Surge 96 played its last tournament before going dark for the high school season and played awesome winning the tournament and going undefeated as well. Looked like old times with the 96 team as they scored a whooping 54 runs and gave up only 9 runs in 6 games. All games were Run-Ruled except one. It was a dominating tourney for Power Surge.

This was also the last 16u tournament that Power Surge 96 will play as we have decided to go back to 14u in the summer as the entire team is all 96 birthdays and eligible for 14u. Not bad for all these young kids to do so well at 16u. For the entire Winter season playing 16u Power Surge 96 went 20 wins and only 1 loss. Looks promising for the summer.

POWER SURGE 96 HAS GREAT WEEKEND AT AMERICA'S FINEST CITY COLLEGE SHOWCASE

Power Surge 96, the new version, is starting to really look like the old Power Surge 96.  PS96 went 5-0 in this past weekend's prestigious America's Finest City College Showcase.  We were certainly the youngest team there as we are now all 1996 birthdays and are a 14u elibible team.  But we dominated the competition of older 16u teams scoring 38 runs and giving up 8 runs.

We are really starting to come together.  Our pitching was awesome and we hit the Power Surge way, that is a ton of bombs over the fences.  We are now looking at becoming a real factor at Nationals.  Just hope we can keep it going after the high school season.

Tuesday, October 26
POWER SURGE 96 HAS ANOTHER GREAT WEEKEND IN COLLEGE SHOWCASE

Power Surge 96 continues to show that they will be a factor in the Summer at 16u.  This past weekend we went 5-1 scoring 44 runs and giving up only 8 in six games.  It is all coming together.  The hitting was unbelievable and the pitching is really coming on.

Monday, October 18
POWER SURGE 96 GOES 5-0 IN SURF CITY SHOWCASE

Power Surge 96 went 5-0 this past weekend beating some of the top teams in the country.  That was awesome but from the head coach not expected this early.  With many new players it takes a long time to get the chemistry and teach the many Power Surge ways and plays.  It takes many practices and many weeks to assimilate all that is being taught.  But this team sure learned quickly going 5-0 this past weekend.  Great pitching and hitting really made the difference.

Don't get me wrong, at Power Surge we expect to win every game, but I wasn't sure this team was at that point.

Friday, October 15
POWER SURGE 96 ACCEPTED TO PRETIGIOUS COLORADO FIREWORKS COLLEGE SHOWCASE

Power Surge 96 has added another pretigous accomplishment by being invited to play in the Colorado Fireworks College Showcase coming up this Summer.  This tournament is one of the oldest and most recognizable reccruiting showcases in existance.  Some teams and organizations have been on the waiting list for years to get into this great tournament.  We are so proud of our 96 Power Surge team that we have proven over the years that we deserve to be with the best as we are one of the best.

Sunday, August 15
POWER SURGE FINISHES 5TH OUT OF 125 TEAMS AT ASA NATIONALS IN MOLINE, ILLINOIS

ASA Nationals were in Moline, Illinois, from Aug 1 through Aug 8.  There were 156 teams in this massive tournament from all over the country.  I am proud to say Power Surge 96 finished in 5th place and won more games than any team in the tournament going 10-2.  Unfortunately we got into the Loser's Bracket early and had to battle through the loser's bracket winning seven games in a row before we lost.

POWER SURGE 96 WINS ITS 4TH TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR

Power Surge went to the Winners Circle another time this past weekend by winning the Red, White, And Blue TCS tournament in Orange County. This is our 5th tournament win of the season.

Monday, June 7
POWER SURGE 96 CHAMPIONS OF TCS TOURNAMENT MISSION VIEJO

Power Surge 96 got its first look at the mighty 14u 95 teams in the Triple Crown Mission Viejo tourney.  The 95's are just back from their high school seasons.

Power Surge not only found out that we can stay with those 95 teams, we won the tournament.  It was a great win in that we now know we can play with the older 14u teams.

Sunday, April 18
POWER SURGE BACK-TO BACK-TO BACK TCS CHAMPIONS IN PALM PRINGS

Power Surge 96 was decalared Co-Champions of the Field of Dreams tournament in Palm Springs this past weekend.  Long story as to why it was Co-Champions but suffice it to say that playing a championship game with a time limit of 45 minutes offered by the staff of Triple Crown due to the fields being schedule for adult league softball was not an acceptable way to end a great weekend.  So both teams decided, the Firecrakers and Power Surge, to end the tournament as Co-Champions.

Power Surge has now won this tournament three years in a row.  We were the only team to not lose a game at this tournament and beat the Firecrackers in Pool Play.  We are very proud of how we played.  We have now won two concecutive tournaments.

Monday, March 29
POWER SURGE REPEATS AS CHAMPIONS OF THE SURF CITY CLASSIC

Power Surge won its first tournament of 2010 winning the Surf City Classic in Huntington Beach. We won this tournament last year as well. Of note was a great game in which we played a team made up of players from the OC Batbuster organization who play regularly with older teams who are dark right now due to high school. It was a good team who challenged us and gave us the kind of game we will see when the high schoolers come back.

Congrats girls and lets win a bunch more tournaments this year.

POWER SURGE 96 SO CAL ASA 'STATE' CHAMPIONS 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! Will this Power Surge team ever stop accomplishing and striving to be the very best there is?????? I sure hope not as the sky is the limit for these great players.

Power Surge 96 just went to probably the toughest tournament of the year, The Southern California State Championships with 48 teams, and went undefeated 6-0 and were crowned CHAMPIONS! Power Surge scored 52 runs and gave up only 7 in the six games they played. What a team! What a great group of girls! What a great group of parents and supporters! All always perform with class!

Next up for this talented team.....................ASA Nationals in Normal, Illinois, in late July early August. We have the talent and the confidence to do well at Nationals.

Look out for Power Surge 96 SO CAL STATE CHAMPIONS. We have now won the last five tournaments we have been in and have been undefeated in all five tournaments. Our record is now a whopping 61-5. We look forward to representing Power Surge and California at ASA Nationals.

POWER SURGE STARTS OFF FALL SEASON AS CHAMPS OF TOURNAMENT

Power Surge started its Fall season the way it ended its Summer season, that being champs of a tournament.  The Summer season ended with Power Surge 96 being crowned National Champions of ASA in Normal, Illinois.  This past weekend, our first tournament of the Fall season, Power Surge 96 won the Triple Crown 14U Monster Mash tournament.

Power Surge scored 44 runs and gave up only 2 runs.  The girls played like mid-season form hittng the ball with power, pitching great, and playing its usual solid defense.

POWER SURGE 12U WINS ASA NATIONALS IN NORMAL, ILLINOIS--POWER SURGE IS THE 2009 ASA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Power Surge 96 12u has been crowned the best 12u team in the entire United States by winning the 2009 ASA Fastpitch Softball Nationals Tournament in Normal, Illinois.  What a fantastic accomplishment traveling all the way accross the country and competing against the best teams in all the United States and coming out undefeated and the National Champions.

Power Surge went 9-0 in the national tournament run-ruling all but three teams, scoring 64 runs and giving up only 7.  What a truly dominating performance by our Power Surge players.  All the hard work has paid off.  Congratualations girls, coaches, parents, and supporters.  Thanks to all who traveled across the country to support us.  Thank you to our great sponsors who helped us raise over $24,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COLLEGE SCOUTS HAVE FOUND POWER SURGE 96--BIGTIME!!

I had heard winning ASA Nationals was huge but I had no idea how huge. Comingfrom winning ASA Nationals have been many things. Being on Television, in the newspapers, being recognized by City Hall, Being inducted into the San Diego Hall of Champions, Etc..

But the one really big thing is the number of College Scouts that have contacted us or have come see us play has been amazing. And...........the quality of the colleges interested in our girls is the best of the best. Arizona and the Olympic Coach Mike Candrea, Texas, Oklahoma, Fresno State, San Diego State, and just recently the NCAA Champions University of Washington have expressed interest in our Power Surge 96 girls. All have heard of our girls and the talent they have. Very exciting!

POWER SURGE 96 FINISHES THE FALL SEASON WITH A BIG WIN AT TOYS FOR TOTS 14U

Power Surge 96 Had a great Fall season moving up to the 14u division.  We finished with a 29-5-4 record.  This past weekend we won the prestigious Toys For Tots tournament in Orange County going undefeated.  We scored 76 runs and gave up only 4 runs in seven games this past weekend.

We look forward to the challenge of competing again this year for the ASA National Title in Illinois.  We certainly have the talent to compete.

POWER SURGE 96 RECEIVES ANOTHER HONOR--'TEAM OF THE YEAR' GIVEN BY SOFTBALL TODAY MAGAZINE

Quoted from an email sent to Power Surge 96 by Softball Today Magazine:

"Of the tens of thousands of teams in the ASA, USSSA, NSA and the Triple Crown your team was selected as the 12U Softball Today Magazine "Team of the Year." This is a great accomplishment that rarely happens again with the same players.  Please see this link for the story on page 37."   http://content.yudu.com/A153f2/SoftballToday/

POWER SURGE 96 FINISHES TIED FOR 3RD IN LAST 16U TOURNEY BEFORE HIGH SCHOOL SEASON STARTS

Power Surge's young 96 team of all 8th graders played in the Surf City 16u tourney this past weekend with the top 16u teams in SoCal.  As this team has done over and over again they have amazed me again by making the semi-finals and tying for 3rd place in this very tough tournament.  The final four teams in the final four were Batbusters Myers a perennial ASA Champion at 16u, Lakewood Ladies a former ASA National Champ, and the always tough California Cruisers.  To be in that kind of company is truly amazing.

Now it is on to just the 14u teams of 8th graders and moving back in to 40 feet pitching distance from 43 feet as all the older divisions now start their high school seasons and the Travel Teams have to go dark.  We have learned a lot playing the older teams and feel it will improve our already great team for our run to ASA Nationals in Moline, Illinios.

Monday, July 13
POWER SURGE 12U 96'S CHAMPIONS OF USSSA 14U TOURNEY JULY 11-12

Power Surge really had to play its best this past weekend against some older tough well respected teams to become the Champions of the 14u Division of the USSSA tournament in Saboba. We had some tough games, a 2 extra inning International Tie Breaker in the semis agains OC Elite, and tied a game against the Minors Gold 94's in pool play coming back with two runs to tie it with two outs in the bottom of the last inning. In the final playing the tough Minors Gold 94's again we won 7-0 and Selina Taamilo had 17 strikouts in seven innings to dominate to take the title.

We look very ready for ASA Nationals in two weeks. Lets start packing and get ready for the Big Show!

POWER SURGE GOES UNDEFEATED AND CO-CHAMPIONS IN MOTHERS DAY TOURNEY

Power Surge went undefeated this past weekend and was declared co-champions with the OC Batusters. Injuries to Batbuster players caused the final not to be played. Power Surge scored 19 runs and gave up only 1 in the three games they played.

Power Surge is now 55-4 for this season. Not bad.

Monday, April 27
POWER SURGE 96 WINS THE HUGE 'FRESNO FORCE' TOURNAMENT-CHAMPIONS

Power Surge 96 is really continuing to play at its very best as this past weekend Power Surge traveled to Fresno and won the prestigious Fresno Force Tournament.  58 teams were in the 12U division from all over the West Coast.  To finish 1st in this great tournament is really an honor.  But the girls deserved it going 7-0, scoring 52 runs and giving up only 8 in the seven games we played.

POWER SURGE REPEATS AS CHAMPIONS OF PALM SPRINGS TCS

Power Surge went to Palm Springs to defend the title it won last year as an all 11-year old team. We are proud to announce that we won the Palm Springs TCS Tournament again this year. Power Surge scored 66 runs and gave up only 5 runs in seven games. Our girls hit some huge home runs, our pitchers were up the the task, our defense was outstanding making only 2 errors all weekend, and as always is the case our baserunners stole many bases. Great job ladies!

What a great accomplishment for our girls. We have now won two tournaments in a row in two succesive weekends and finished 2nd in a 14U tournament three weeks ago. We are certainly on a roll!

POWER SURGE 96 12U's CHAMPIONS OF ONE OF THE TOP TOURNAMENTS OF THE YEAR-SURF CITY TOURNEY

Power Surge 96 is continuing to stay hot as they won the prestigious Surf City Huntington Beach Tournament this past weekend in the 12U division. Power Surge went 7-0 and scored a whopping 58 runs and gave up only 5 runs in their seven games.

DAY 4 ASA NATIONALS-MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA

We are out!  Unfortunately our bats went completely quite in the elimination bracket getting only 6 hits and scoring 2 runs in the 14 innings we played.  At this level of competition you just can't do that.  Every team here has at least one very good pitcher.  We needed to adjust to that and come out swinging.  We lost to the Tsunami from Jacksonville, Florida, 9-1.

But, being I think only 1 of 4 all 1996 birthday teams of 11 year olds at ASA Nationals is quite an honor, no matter how we did.  To win over 60 games this past year, to win the huge Triple Crown tournament in Palm Springs, to travel to NorCal and qualify for ASA Nationals, to go to Montgomery and play against the best of the best at ASA Nationals is an amazing acomplishment!!!!  Look out for this team next year at ASA Nationals in Moline, Illinois.  We may be the favorites..........

POWER SURGE DOMINATES IN FIRST TOURNEY AS CHAMPION

Power Surge 96 played in their first Fall tournament and scored 64 runs and gave up only 3 runs to capture the Championship. Our pitching was truly outstanding in giving up only 3 runs in six games. Our power hitters and all our new slappers with their tremendous speed really lit up the scoreboard. It was a great way to start our tournament season.

POWER SURGE 96 QUALIFIES FOR ASA REGIONALS IN FAIRFIELD NoCal JULY 11-13

Power Surge 96 young guns have qualified for ASA Regionals July 11-13 in Fairfield, Ca.. This is quite an accomplishment for our young team. Only teams that finished in the top tier of ASA States recent tournament qualify. Again, another barometer on how we are doing and what next year will hold for this great team.

Most important, we have a chance to qualify now for ASA Nationals in Montgomery, Alabama, in late July.

Monday, April 7

--POWER SURGE 96 CHAMPIONS--TRIPLE CROWN PALM SPRINGS QUALIFIER APRIL 5-6

Power Surge 96 comes home to San Diego as Champions of the Field of Dreams Triple Crown Qualifier in Palm Springs. This was a very quality tournament with 30 teams from all over the Western States.

For this young team to win against mostly older 12U 95 teams is certainly impressive. But to know how Power Surge won is even more impressive. PS96 gave up only 7 runs in 7 games. PS96 scored 48 runs. A huge stat is Power Surge hit 15 home runs in the tournament sending its opponents outfielders deep every game.

This team is truly reaching the potential we felt it has. Still more improvement will make this great team even better.

Congrats girls, you won a great tournament being the best you can be.
