If your child is interested in singing the national anthem, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance or reciting the Little League Pledge, then please contact John Riley at johnriley@cox.net.
Poway National Little League recognizes that there can be no other priority more important than ensuring that the baseball games are as safe as possible.
The PNLL Board and Little League take safety issues very seriously. If players are playing in conditions where their safety is threatened, then we encourage parents to contact the PNLL Board so the issue can be addressed and resolved quickly.
Little League has put in place many policies to protect children including pitch count limits, mandated catcher gear, helmets, no on deck circle and more. Further, PNLL requires helmets to be worn anytime a bat is swung, and no swinging of bats unless on the field and in a specific batting activity (i.e. no casual swings out by the bleachers near small children).
At the same time PNLL also takes verbal threats to children's safety very seriously, even if just in joking.
We urge everyone to understand that this is Little League Baseball. It is about community, family, friendships, developing character and learning life lessons.
PNLL encourages safe playing conditions for our children in a positive environment where everyone can arrive and leave with a smile.
Have fun out there!
2012 All Star Information
*** PNLL Board Decision re: All Star Team Prioritization ***
Historically the PNLL Board has taken the direction of attempting to put the most highly talented 11-12 yr olds on the 11-12 yr old All Star team, and the most highly talented 9-10 yr olds on the 9-10 yr old All Star team. This essentially stacks each of those teams to the best possible outcome, thus prioritizing those two teams over the 10-11 team. However, this year the board has taken a different approach.
The board decided that the 10-11 group of players has the greatest potential to go the deepest in all stars given the tremendous talent level in that group. As a result, the board decided to stack the 10-11 team with first priority rather than 11-12 and 9-10 teams as we have done in year's past.
The board fully expects all three All Star teams to do very well in their tournaments and represent PNLL proudly both with great performance and great character on and off the field.

Board Members Needed for 2012-13
The PNLL Board needs your help! Your community needs you.
The current 2011-12 board is heavily dominated by parents with connections to the majors division, many of which will be aging out at the end of this year and next. As a league it is very important that new families with children playing in T-Ball, Rookie and Minor B join the board so there is an ongoing pipeline of good people to help run this league for many years to come.
The PNLL Board takes responsibility for running the league, organizing registration, teams, managers, schedules, uniforms, fields, equipment, sponsorships, fundraisers, website, finances, snack shack, safety, communication and so much more.
We will be accepting signups thru Monday May 28th. All applicants will be put on an online ballot and then voted on by all PNLL families on Wednesday May 30th. The winners will be announced at Closing Ceremonies on Saturday June 2nd.
The new board will join the current board at the Tuesday June 5th meeting. At the conclusion of the current board's meeting, the new board will vote to elect the new president for 2012-13.
The current board will preside over all league business through the end of June 2012. The new board will officially take over operations of the league on July 1 2012.
You can signup to put your name on the ballot by emailing John Riley at johnriley@cox.net or by signing up at the Snack Shack.
We hope you can help make PNLL and baseball great here in our shared community.

Majors
Round #3
05.22.2012 - Cubs 3, Reds 1
This game has been officially renamed "The Tyler Stedman Show". Stedman went the distance on the mound giving up just 1 run, 2 hits, 9 K’s & 1 BB. He only faced 20 batters in 6 innings. Tyler also hit a lead off home run over the Green Monster to start the 3rd inning (that makes 5 Stedman HRs in 5 straight PNLL games). Ryan Horne made 5 plays in the field, including the game ending double play. Nolan Adamiec singled, scored the game's second run and did an outstanding job catching, including making the tag on the final out. Hayden Chinn scored 1 run and had an RBI single. The Reds lone run came on an impressive Garrett van Nostrand HR to RF. Last year Garrett's team lost this same Round #3 game in the playoffs, but came back to win the championship... anything can happen in this wild PNLL tournament!
Round #2
05.19.2012 - Cubs 12, Pirates 2
Tyler Stedman pitched 3+ shut out innings as the Cubbies rolled in the second round of the playoffs. The Cubs were playing with a thin 9 man roster and got contributions throughout the lineup. Stedman hit a HR to RF that touched off the yellow rail, Dallan Pine hit a double over the CF's head, Patrick Walsh hit a hard single to RF, and Hayden Chinn and Trevor Riley hit doubles in the gap. Stedman pitched up to his pitch limit thus keeping him eligible for the next game. Chinn came into close the game on the mound. Riley capped the game off with a 2-run, walk off home run over the CF fence. The game featured two magnificent double plays one led by the Pirates SS DJ Ackley and another by Cubs SS Hayden Chinn. According to Cubs Manager Mark Bonner, the Cubs have now hit 27 HRs in 21 games.
05.15.2012 - Reds 12, Padres 10
Teddy Gigstad got his first start of the season and shut down the Padres and their big bats in the early innings of this big 2nd round playoff game. Gigstad dealt lots of offspeed pitches to keep the Padres hitters off balance and was backed by solid Reds defense. Connor Phan had two big doubles, 4 RBI and made a great catch in the OF for the Big Red Machine. Tanner Wood hit a bomb to the fence missing a home run by inches, as the Reds opened up a 12-5 lead. But the #1 seeded Padres fought back as expected, but it was not enough. Garrett van Nostrand came in to shut the Padres down and close the game. These Reds remain red hot through the playoffs.... the majors streakiest team, staying streaky!
Round #1
05.12.2012 - Reds 5, Dodgers 2
Luke Beckwith led off the game with a first pitch HR over the CF fence and Parvinder Ghumann pitched strongly for the Blue Crew... but those scrappy Reds clawed back with a 4-run 4th inning led by Robert Gormish's 2-run single with the bases loaded. Brady Ware started on the mound for the Reds and was excellent except for one pitch and Garrett van Nostrand came in to close. The Reds continue their streaky ways this season, and they are ready for another red hot streak at just the right time
05.12.2012 - Pirates 10, Cardinals 6
Dayton Dooney hit two HRs (one from each side of the plate) both deep into the Rookie field as the Pirates topped the Cards 10-6. Dooney started the game on the mound and pitched into the 4th before being removed for hitting 3 batters (local PNLL rule). DJ Ackley came into finish. In the top of the 6th the Cards' Tommy Glatt launched a 2 run double to deep right field one-hopping the fence, but it was too little too late.
Elimination Round #2
05.23.2012 - Padres 8, Pirates 7
Padres ace Dylan Skov did not pitch, but he delivered with his bat hitting a solo walk off HR to lead off the bottom of the 6th to win the game for the Pads. This game was full of drama going back and forth with many lead changes. Walter Wagner of the Pirates had a multi hit game including a 2 RBI double in the gap to tie the game 5-5. The Pirates Dayton Dooney hit a 3-run HR left handed deep over the RF fence. Teryn Correa did his part to help the Padres with an RBI double and his first HR of the season to straight away center. The Padres now must get ready to face the Reds again, this time for survival. Can Teddy Gigstad shut down the Padres one more time?
Elimination Round #1
05.21.2012 - Pirates 3, Dodgers 2
Both the Dodgers and Pirates went into the game able to throw their aces, Parvinder Ghumman and Dayton Dooney. Both pitched very well. Dayton threw 3 2/3 innings while going 2-2 at the plate. Parvinder was even better throwing 5 complete innings giving up only 4 hits. The Dodgers played exceptional defense with Luke Beckwith throwing out would-be stealers and Connor Oca making diving plays at short. Christian Benancourt hit the ball well for the Dodgers knocking in a critical run. Cole Simpson was able to drive in the Dodgers second run. Curran Williamson singled in two runs late to tie the game for the Pirates. Jacob Parker and Jack Estepp pitched exceptionally well for the Pirates in the 5th and 6th innings keeping the game tied. DJ Ackley was able to knock in Seth Francis in the bottom of the 6th with two outs due to some spirited base running by Seth.
05.19.2012 - Padres 8, Cardinals 5
The news staff at PNLL.org have heard rumors of tremendous defensive plays by Dylan Schram at SS. More details to follow.

Round #2
05.19.2012 - Phillies 7, Mets 4
The Mets started the game with their ace, Nick Salafia, but the Phillies were able to get to him early with three runs in the second inning to knock him out. Justin Kramer had a triple to left field with a runner on that he was able to score on due to a throwing error at third that made it 5-0 Phils. Both teams score a run here and there for the next couple of innings. In the top of the fifth with a 7-2 lead, the Mets rallied for two more runs, but fell short for a 7-4 Phillies win.

Round #1
05.12.2012 - Mets 6, Pirates 2
Nick Salafia of the Mets threw three no hit innings to start off this pitchers duel. The Pirates kept it close with a strong pitching performance from Tommy Belway, who held the Mets to one run until the third inning, when the Mets took the lead with a clutch two out double from CJ Caccese. Josh Wong continued the no hitter until a rope single from Sam Armstrong broke the string in the top of the fifth. The Mets added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with a double from Andrew Glenn. Clark Simon of the Pirates kept the game within reach by tagging out Eduardo Venegas at the plate on an exciting collision play. The Pirates went on to threaten in the sixth with hits from Tommy Belway and Keaton Miramon, but Josh Wong closed out the game with the help of strong defense.
Elimination Round #2
05.23.2012 - Cardinals 3, Mets 2
Jason Dudley, backed up by the best defense the Cardinals have played all season, shut out the Mets for three innings, on 32 pitches! Helping his own cause, Jason scored on Taylor Bodey’s double, after hitting a one out triple down the third base line. Kaeden Kniffing’s double brought Bodey home and the Cardinals had a 2-0 lead in the first. However, Nick Salafia found his groove and shut out the Cardinals for the next two innings.
The Mets rallied in the fourth, getting to Colton Merrifield for two and a 2-2 tie. But Merrifield settled down nicely not allowing another run in two more innings of work. Trading “pitch for pitch” with Merrifield was Josh Wong who handcuffed the Cardinals for two innings, maintaining the 2-2 score.
The bottom of the sixth set up perfectly for the Cardinals, with the top of the lineup coming to the plate and needing one run to win. Alan Ligi opened the inning with a single, stole second and advanced to third on Jason Dudley’s single. Taylor Bodey ended the game with an infield single that brought Ligi home for the 3-2 victory!

Minor B
Round #2
05.22.2012 - Nationals 7, Reds 0
The Reds and Nationals played a tight winner’s bracket playoff game with great pitching and outstanding defense. The Nationals received great pitching from Anthony Spartz (2 IP, 5 SO), Matt Miller (2 IP, 4 SO), Jeffrey Lamouree (1.2 IP, 5 SO) and Ray Hoffman. The Nationals held the Reds to 3 hits and no runs over 6 innings. The Reds had great pitching from Ben Stirling as well and held the Nationals to 1 run through 2 innings along with outstanding defensive plays from the entire infield with clean fielding of hard hit ground balls and catching pop flies. The Nationals broke through with 3 runs in the bottom of the third led by a doubles from Isia Carillo and an RBI double from Jaeden Correa followed by RBI from Jeffrey Lamouree. The Reds Justin Smudz shut down the Nationals in the 4th inning with 2 K’s. The Nationals put together a 2 out rally in the bottom of the fifth and scored 3 runs with RBI’s from Jeffrey Lamouree, Ray Hoffman and Brian Szczotka. The Reds battled back and loaded the bases in the top of the 6th inning led by Cameron MacCollum’s two out single up the middle and the Nationals Ray Hoffman came on to get the final out with a pop fly that was squeezed by Eric Gant and ended the exciting game.
Round #1

05.12.2012 - Nationals 7, Padres 1
The Nationals and Padres played another great defensive game, the score was in no way indicative of the competiveness. Nationals received some great pitching from Anthony Spartz and Matt Miller to go along with some key defensive plays from Jaeden Correa and others. Another 0 to 0 game until the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Nationals were finally able to get a couple of key timely hits. Nationals were supported by some key hits by Brian Sczotka who came up big on the day going 3 for 3 and other clutch hits by Ray Hoffman, Andrew Boland and others. This was a good team win against a great Padres team that plays solid defense and has some great hitters.
The schedule is spread out over a 3-week timeframe because of black out dates where Pomerado Elementary has end-of-year school functions, as well as the Memorial Day weekend.
The winner of the Minor A tournament will play in the City Championship vs the tournament champion from Poway American Little League.
The board made some adjustments as to how the Majors teams will be selected for the City Championship and the Tournament of Champions:
If a Tournament of Champions (TOC) exists, then the following rules are used to determine who goes to the TOC and who goes to the Poway City Championship:
Case #1: If the regular season winner and the tournament winner are the same team. The tournament winner has a choice between the Poway City Championship and Tournament of Champions. The other venue is represented by the team with the best overall record tournament and regular season combined. The team's winning percentage of both the tournament and regular season will represent PNLL in the venue not chosen by the tournament winner.
Case #2: If a team other than the first place regular season wins the tournament. The tournament winner has a choice between the Poway City Championship and Tournament of Champions. Then the other venue is represented by the first place regular season team.
