Piney Orchard Swim Team: Welcome

Community Day is on March 21 from 9am-1pm at the Community Center. We will be taking early registrations. You need to know the following:
All members of the team must be eighteen (18) and under as of May 31, 2009. Swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool, without any assistance before the first meet, swimmers 6 and under may have a “buddy swimmer” for reassurance. Swim team is not a substitution for swimming lessons. Parents MUST be a resident of Piney Orchard and of good standing. All swimmers and parents must have a current pool access card.
Volunteers are the core of the swim team. To ensure the continued viability of the swim team, one adult from every family must volunteer to participate in some aspect of the swim team. The opportunities to volunteer are diverse. Sign up is held at the beginning of the season and it is suggested that the adult sign up for the option that best fits their time, talent and interest.
These practices are optional.
Starting May 26th, practices will be at the Island Pool Tuesday and Thursdays.
Swimmers 6 and under will practice from 6-6:30pm
Swimmers 7 and up to 10 will practice from 6:30-7:00 pm
Swimmers 11 and older will practice from 7:30-8:00pm.
These practices are mandatory.
Practices will be held after school, until Anne Arundel County Schools close to students for the summer.
Starting June 13, 2008, morning practice group assignments are as follows:
Swimmers 6 and under: 7:45am to 8:30am
Swimmers 10 and under: 7:45am to 9:00am
Swimmers 11 and up: 8:45am to 10:00am
Practice sessions are based on age and ability. Practice groups will be determined by coaches.
We are required by the CMSL to have insurance that covers general liability and participant accident insurance at both home and away meets. Therefore, we are a member of the Amateur Athletic Union Insurance Program (AAU) and hold proper coverage for our team. The registration fee for the 2009 summer season is $110.00. These fees are non-refundable.

A community swim team devoted to providing it's youth with a healthy social alternative.
The Piney Orchard Piranhas (POPs) Swim Team is a competitive summer swim team that will provide a wonderful sporting opportunity for all Piney Orchard Resident swimmers 18 and under.
The primary goals of our swim team are to promote team spirit, good sportsmanship and provide a positive learning experience for all at our practices and meets. Our main objective is to provide a safe, structured, activity during the summer for all youth in the Piney Orchard community.
Our swim team is a member of the Central Maryland Swim League (CMSL). There are 53 teams consisting of ten (10) divisions in the league and we are in the 10th division.
Swimmers 7 and up must be able to swim one length of the pool, without any assistance. Swimmers 6 and under may have a "buddy" in the pool ahead of them for encouragement and guidance.
Parents MUST be a resident of Piney Orchard in good standing and have a current pool membership.
