Chiefs Season Ends in Loss to Vistas
The Mandan Chiefs season came to a close Saturday afternoon at the hands of the Minot Vistas. The vistas won 15-4 in seven innings. The Chiefs loss ends their season at 35-25, a 16 win improvement over 2007.
The Chiefs opened up the State Tournament with a 15-3 victory over Fargo Post 2. Reid Jungling picked up the victory in seven innings when the mercy rule took effect. The win paired the Chiefs with a matchup with the Roughriders of Dickinson Thursday night. Sam Salveson pitched very effectively over eight plus innings. Steve Pletan hit a 3 run bomb off Dickinson starter Steven Laylock in the first inning. However, the Roughriders won 7-5.
The Chiefs first loser out game came on Friday against the Grand Forks Royals. Jay Flaa started the game on the hill and lasted four plus innings before Jake Friesz relieved Flaa and pitched the final four and two-thirds. Matt Keller and Steve Pletan each belted home runs and Jared Muth went 4-6 at the plate to lead the Chiefs to a 14-10 victory.
Saturday brought about loser out game number two for the Chiefs against the Minot Vistas. The Chiefs hoped to end the Vistas drive towards three straight state titles (although the Vistas automatically qualify for the Central Plains as the host team), but the Vistas bats were too much for the Chiefs. Jungling started the game on two days rest and lasted three plus innings. Jeff Werner relieved Jungling and Jared Quast pitched the sixth and seventh. Steve Pletan homered for the third time in the tournament.
The Chiefs season was a very successful one, instilling confidence in a group that will for the most part take the field in 2009. The Chiefs will return six people from college (Quast, Keller, Pletan, Muth, Mellmer, and Werner). Matt Bosch and Brandon Leingang are the only Chiefs that cannot return for another year. Both Leingang and Bosch were valuable parts of the 2008 Chiefs providing stability and leadership that will be missed.

Chiefs Heading to State as #6 Seed
The Chiefs bats definitely made the trip from Mandan to Jamestown for the seeding tournament. The Chiefs pounded out 53 runs over three games, finishing the tournament with back-to-back 20+ run games. The Chiefs victory secures the #6 seed in this weeks state tournament in Minot. The Chiefs will face Fargo on Wednesday August 6th at 1:15 at Corbett Field.
The Chiefs were very impressed with a huge following of fan support in Jamestown and are looking forward to seeing even more wearing the Green and Yellow in Minot. Hope to see you all at Corbett on Wednesday.

Chiefs @ Jamestown for Divisional Tournament
After 20 regular season conference games the Chiefs find themselves with the seventh seed going into the postseason. The top five teams (Dickinson, Bismarck, Minot, Williston, and Fargo) automatically qualified for the State Tournament (Aug. 6-10, Minot) by finishing 1-5 in the Statewide conference. The Grand Forks Royals are 6th and the Chiefs 7th, both recieving byes in tomorrows Divisional Playoff First Round. The Chiefs will play at 7pm at Jack Brown Stadium (Jamestown) against the winner of the Devils Lake/Wahpeton game. Hope to see you in Jamestown.

A's come up short in Section 8 Tournament
The A's were unable to make it to the third day fo the Section 8 Tournament after losing two close games today to Washburn and Hazen. The two losses ends a very fine season for the A's, one of their best in a while. The A's finished up the season at 23-19, a vast turnaround from last season. The A's won two games in the Grand Forks tournament, along with a home sweep of Washburn to close out the regular season. However, the most important set of games was the two games the A's won out of three against the Bismarck Reps (ND Sr. Babe Ruth State Champs), including a shutout win on the third of July.
