The Porters allowed a golden opportunity to share the SWSC title to get away from them by losing to conference rival Sandburg 10-6. Going into the bottom of the seventh with a 6-5 lead, the Porter defense could not make a play committing 3 errors and allowing 5 unearned runs 4 after 2 outs. The big blow came with a dramatic grand slam after the Porters committed their 3rd error of the inning and a chance to send it into extra innings.
The loss wasted a great relief performance by Josh Hager who came into the game in the 3rd with the Porters trailing 5-2 and held the Eagles scoreless for the next 4 innings. The Porters battled back and took the lead in the top of the 6th when SS Billy Reed singled home the tying and go ahead runs with 2 outs.

The Porters scored 12 runs in the first 3 innings but allowed the Boilers to get back in the game giving up 4 runs in the 2nd and a big 6 spot in the 5th. 5 BB's by Porter pitchers and a leaky defense (5E) in those two innings led to 5 of the 10 runs being unearned.
Clutch relief pitching by Josh Hager (2IP,0ER,3K,Save#1) helped the Porters earn the win.

The Porters took their first game in the Will Co. Soph. Tournament with a come from behind 9-5 win over Plainfield N. As has become routine for the Porters they fell behind early 5-0 with inconsistent defense that allowed the Cougars to score 3 unearned runs in the 3rd inning.
The Porters came back with 5 runs to tie in the 3rd with Jake Bulthuis' high 2B into deep RF and Brenden Dunleavy's 2B scoring 3. The Porters went on to score 4 more in the next 3 innings and at the same time shut the Cougar's offense down.

HIGHLIGHTS:
John Kozmowski (2/4, SB)
Billy Reed (2/3, SB,RBI)
The Porters dropped a very sloppily played game by a score of 10-7 to the visiting Crusaders of Brother Rice. Both teams committed a combined 11 errors on a cool and windy day at Flink Field.
BB's again were the curse of Porter pitching giving up 7 for a season total of 16 in 20 IP. The Porters defense didn't help matters committing 5 errors which led to a total of 6 unearned runs.
The Porters offense started out strong putting across 6 in the first 3 innings. But through the final 4 innings the Porter bats fell quiet getting only 1 run on 1 hit and stranding 5 runners on base.

Billy Reed (2/3, 2B, Game Winning RBI)
The Porters bounced back from their disappointing opening day defeat with an exciting come from behing win over the Trojans of Downers Grove North. The game seemed to repeat the Lemont game when Porter pitching issued 3 straight BB's to open the 3rd inning. A 2B and 1B drove in 4 putting the Porters in an early 4-0 hole after 4 innings.
Clutch relief pitching (2IP, 0ER) by Mike Hamilton and Kevin Fisch enabled the Porters offense to go to work and tie the game in the 6th. In the 5th, a 1B by P Jake Bulthuis and SAC fly by C Brenden Dunleavy made it 4-2. In the 6th an error and a single by 1B Mike Hines knotted the score at 4-4.
This led to 7th inning dramatics by rookie freshman SS Billy Reed's game winning hit. With the go ahead run on base and 2 outs, Reed smashed a 2 strike pitch down the line that was too hot for the DGN 3B to handle driving in the winning run with a 2B.
Jake Bulthuis (1-0) earned his 1st win and was outstanding in relief going 3 innings giving up no hits or runs and striking out 7 of 9 hitters he faced. GREAT WIN PORTERS!!!
