Port Colborne Minor Baseball: Rookie Ball Info
Hello RookieBallers and parents.
The season is set to start. Due to the LARGE number of late registrations, there is a slight delay to the start of the season. There will be a rookieball practice on Tuesday May 21st at Lions Field at the corner of Elm and Killaly St.
Players must wear long pants of some type, baseball pants are preferred, but not mandatory. Baseball shoes are not mandatory, but recommended. No flip flops or sandals. Players are to have their own baseball helmet. Please bring your own water as well.
This season, we will be following the Rally Cap program, as set out by Baseball Canada. Rally Cap is a reward based program. Rally Cap Days will be held a couple of times throughout the season, where the players will be able to display the skills they have practiced and if successful, will earn a colored Rally Cap from Baseball Canada.
There are two words that you will continually hear throughout this season...SKILL DEVELOPMENT. Rookieball baseball is all about skill development. The coaches are here to develop skill and instill a passion for the game. To that end, we will be following the Rally Cap program closely, so the kids will learn the basics of baseball, so when they advance to the mosquito level they will do so with confidence and ability. Rookieball is NOT about winning and losing. It is about SKILL DEVELOPMENT, having FUN , being with friends and enjoying the great game of baseball.
When you are at the field this season, you will notice that practices look different. That is by design. Again, the emphasis will be on SKILL DEVELOPMENT, and there will be a number of different ‘Skill Stations’ set up. The kids will spend a specific amount of time at each station, then will rotate to the next station. Each player will get as many repetitions as possible in that time frame. They will get more repetitions than they would in a game. We will be having games, with umpires, but the games will be modified to keep the kids moving and interested.
PCMBA wants kids to enjoy baseball. We think the modifications we’ve made to the Rookieball program are what is best for the player and for baseball as a whole. We hope that you will agree. Please give this new program a chance. We can make modifications as we see fit. Of course, any feedback is appreciated. PCMBA wants what is best for your kids!
Thanks -- Tom
