Pope Jr. Greyhounds: Welcome

The Pope Jr. Greyhounds Baseball program was established in 2009 as a feeder program for Alan C. Pope High School, located in Marietta, Ga.  It is in no way funded by the Cobb County Schools system, and participation in this program DOES NOT guarantee player selection to the official Pope High School Baseball team.

The 14U team is currently in its 2nd season and a newly established 13U team will begin play in Spring 2012.  Participation with the 13U team does not guarantee selection to the 14U team; each player must tryout every season, just as the high school team does.  A 12U team is under development for the future.  

All Jr. Greyhound teams will play regular season league games in the North Georgia Feeder Baseball League (aka FBL), as well as travel ball at AAA level for tournaments and scrimmages during regular season and off season.  Since feeder teams play by high school rules (with a few exceptions) THERE ARE NO MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR PLAYING TIME.  All players must earn playing time by improving their skills through hard work at practice and at home, as well as demonstrating a positive team-centered attitude.

Jr. Greyhound league and travel games are scheduled on various weeknights and weekends.  Home games for the 14U team will be played at Pope Field, GHSA's 2004 AAAAA Baseball Facility of the Year. 

Away games will be played in various locations throughout north Georgia (including areas of Cherokee, Paulding, Douglas, North Fulton, and Cobb), and some tournaments may be greater than 50 miles away.  Practices will be held in a variety of venues including baseball fields, softball fields and indoor/outdoor batting & pitching cages.  Go to the Fields & Facilities page to see a list of locations for games and practices.

Participation in the Pope Jr. Greyhounds Baseball program is a tremendous time commitment, including any combination of practices and games for a minimum of 5 days a week during the spring; the fall schedule is very light due to players' other commitments to fall activities.  Financially, our goal is to keep this program at a reasonable cost to allow talented young men of all economic backgrounds the opportunity to play on these teams.  This will be accomplished through the acquisition of sponsorships and mandatory team fundraising. Regardless of participation in this program, we highly recommend attending the Pope High School Baseball summer camp during the off-season.  The camp is open to the public and is not restricted to Pope zoned players.  Directed by Head Coach Jeff Rowland, this fundamentals and skills camp is available to several age groups and is held at Pope High School.
