Sunday, October 12, 2008 Tuesday, September 23 HockeyPEI Announces Clinic Dates 2008 Coaches, Safety Trainer, Officials and Speakout Clinics are now scheduled. Click on the link to register. Volunteers must check with their divisional coordinator before registering for any clinic. Wednesday, September 17 Coaching Update for 2008/09 Coaching Certification Delegates were updated on recent changes to the coaching certification program approved by Hockey PEI. Certification for "AAA" and "AA" coaches remained the same. The updated change is in regards to the fact that "A" teams must have at minimum one coach with Coach 1 certification. All team officials must have Speak Out certification. Deadline to obtain certification is December 31st. Helmets on Minor Hockey Coaches Hockey PEI announced that beginning in the 2008-2009 season all minor hockey coaches must wear a helmet while conducting team practices. This policy was adopted by both minor and development council and passed by the board of directors. As a result of recent incidents across the country and a means of safety, Hockey PEI adopted this policy. Currently there are 9 of 13 branches across the country with a helmet policy. Wednesday, January 16 Novice A Team Named Future Team Canada Winner The Pownal Novice A Devils have been selected as the PEI winners of the Wayne Gretzky Future Team Canada award. The coaches are Steve Gordon and Doug Matheson and the winning submission was from their manager Ian Dalton. The team are to be guests on Tuesday Jan 22nd edition of CBC Compass at around 6:30pm Wednesday, January 16 Atom Team Wins Penalty Free Challenge The Pownal Atom A Boys Team #2 have won the Boston Pizza / Hockey Canada Penalty Free Challenge, for not recording a single penalty on the game sheet, and as a result have won a pizza party. |
