Welcome to Dunbar Boy's 2007 Golf Website

REGIONAL CHAMPS!!!!   REGIONAL CHAMPS!!!!   REGIONAL CHAMPS!!!!

September 25th - The boys put the past couple tournaments behind them and came to Regionals to make a statement about their golfing abilities.  The team scoring was led by Danny Bishop and Charlie Schaffer with 74's and it was only a single stroke back to Will Bishop coming in at 75.  The scoring was completed by Zack Butler at 77 and Tanner Mobley shooting an 80.  The team score of 300 placed the Dunbar Bulldogs atop the standings in first place by 2 strokes over LCA.  The Dunbar Bulldogs are the 4th Region Boy's Golf Champs for 2007!!!

September 22nd - We were hoping this event would help steady our confidence going into the Regional Championships next week.  However, the boys just couldn't get the scoring going on this day and the team finished out of the top three teams for the second tournament in a row.  Danny Bishop did manage to shine a bit with his round of 74.

September 15th - The one Invitational that continues to mystify the boys is the Steve Flesch Golf Invitational played at Boone Links Golf Course in Covington, KY.  For the second consecutive year, the course proved to be far more challenging than we were prepared for and the boys did not shoot well.  The team finished sixth with a team score of 334 (16 strokes out of 1st place!).  Zack Butler led the scoring for the Bulldogs with a 79.  On the bright side, UK beat Louisville that same night - so we quickly erased this loss from our minds and got ready to play the Henry Clay Invitational.

September 10th - The boys used the momentum from the last two tournaments to make a very strong showing in the City Championships.  The tournament was played on Tates Creek Golf Course which has been the site of several events this year and one that we have come to enjoy.  Zack Butler led the team scoring with a 71 and was followed by Danny Bishop and Tanner Mobley with 73's.  Will Bishop came in with a very solid 74 and Charlie Schaffer was not far behind with a 75.  The 291 team score was good enough to make the Dunbar Bulldogs the Boys City Champion for 2007.

September 8th - The Montgomery Co. Invitational had 24 teams from across central Kentucky competing for the top prize.  The boys held as steady as they have all year, taking the 1st place trophy home for their 4th victory of 2007.  They were led by Zack Butler with a 72 followed by Will Bishop coming in with a 75.  The team scored a 302 for the tournament - providing a 7 stroke victory over second place Woodford Co.

August 25th - The Commodore Classic, like many of the golf outings this year, was played on a very hot, muggy Saturday afternoon.  Dunbar fielded two teams for the event this year.  Our very own, Danny Bishop, won the individual honors shooting a spectacular 68 and a one stroke victory over Joe Barr of Woodford Co.  This fine outing, along with Zack Butler's 74, brought home another 1st place trophy for Dunbar.  Our team score of 297 was eight strokes better than Scott Co.  The "B" team finished in 12th place with a 332 score.

August 18th - The Invitational Golf Tournament played this past Saturday at the Nevel Meade Golf Course in Lousville proved to be quite a challenge for the boys.  PLD tied three other teams for low team score coming in with a 306 total.  St. Mary's, St. Xavier, Bowling Green and Dunbar went into a playoff for the top spot making for quite a suspenseful Saturday afternoon.  PLD played well enough in the playoff to finish second to St. Mary's.  The boys' team was led by Zack Butler with a 75, followed closely by Will Bishop at 76 and his brother, Danny with a 77.  The scoring for the team was completed by Tanner Mobley with a 78 on a golf course that proved to be a very good test of everyone's golf skills.

The boys are gearing up for the Tates Creek Commodore Classic to be played at Tates Creek Golf Course in Lexington on Saturday, August 25th.  Good Luck to the Bull Dogs - keep them in the fairway guys........

August 6th - The Boy's Varsity Team continued to show promise this past week by taking the Southwind Golf Classic with a resounding seven under par 277 team total!!!  They were led by the return of Zack Butler with a four under par 67, followed closely by Charlie Schaffer at two under par 69.  Completing the Dunbar scoring was Tanner Mobley at 70 and Brandon Collier with an even par 71.

August 1st & 2nd - The team also played well on the first day at the LCA Golf Tournament on August 1st to place second among all the participating teams on Wednesday and making it to the match play round on Thursday.  Unfortunately, we did not fare as well on Thursday and finished fourth for the tournament.  The Bishop brothers played very solid golf during the two day event as did Tanner Mobley, but it just wasn't enough to put us in front of LCA and others.  The team did struggle a bit on Saturday at the GRC Buggies Unlimited event at Kearney placing fifth.  The loss of Zack B., Danny B. and Will B. created quite a challenge - one that was too much to overcome on this very hot, humid Saturday afternoon.

July 30th & 31st - The PLD Varsity Boys Golf Team got the 2007 Season off to a wonderful start by winning the Franklin County Flyer Classic held on July 30th and 31st. Our two-day team total of 579 established a new tournament record and was 10 strokes in front of second place Louisville Christian Academy. Strong individual efforts were posted by freshman Will Bishop with a two day total of one under par (141) and also by Danny Bishop with a one over par (143). These scores were closely followed by Tanner Mobley with a four over par (145) and Charlie Schaffer with a eight over par (150). Senior Chris Linville rounded out the scoring for Dunbar with a 161. A picture of the boys accepting their 1st place team trophy has been posted to the website.

July 15th - The Third Annual PLD Boys' Golf Scramble played at the University Club of Kentucky was a resounding success as 24 teams competed for bragging rights and lots of great prizes! Even a "small" mid-tournament thunderstorm break could not dampen the excitement, enthusiasm and energy that marked the day's play and fund raising activities. There were several winners throughout the day - including the Bishop and Butler teams placing in the top three for the day and Danny Bishop blasting a 340+ yard drive (per GPS Global tracking system measurement) for Long Drive on number 12! What does this guy eat for breakfast any way?

A hearty round of applause goes out to the many volunteers who gave of their time and considerable talents in making the outing and the cookout a success. Although the volunteers are too numerous to name individually, special thanks to Audrey and Rhonda for staffing the Registration booth, to Lynn Schaffer for driving the drink cart, to Jeff Mobely for furnishing and cooking the burgers and hot dogs, and the many parents who brought food for our gathering. The day also would not have been possible without the generosity of our hole sponsors and the businesses that provided gifts for the silent auction and raffle drawings.
