1999 State Champs!
Two summers ago, the Plaistow Storm won the 1999 Class "B" state championship at the tournament held in Plymouth, NH. They went on to place third at the New England Regional Championships, also held in Plymouth.

Summer 2000
The 16U Plaistow Storm kicked off its summer season in late June, looking forward to participating in various tournaments including the state tourney in Keene on the weekend of June 30-July 2.

The coaches for the 2000 season were Head Coach Skip Sumner, and Assistant Coaches Sue Sherman, Mr. Sullivan, and Mr. Grandmaison.

One year after their championship win, the Storm was disappointed to be ousted from this year's tourney after just 2 games. The relatively inexperienced (yet enthusiastic) team played well but couldn't overcome their opponents. They were able to win their consolation game on Saturday, July 1 which stood out as a highlight of the weekend. "When the game is played with heart and for the love of the game , then it's what the game should be!", explained Mrs.Sherm. Better luck next year, ladies!

The Storm played a few non-tournament games during the 2000 season and fared well. They beat Barrington twice and also won against the 16B state champion Newmarket Mules. They won a 15-14 decision against the Rochester Slammers on Thursday, July 13th, despite a low turnout of players.

Wrapping up a fun but slightly frustrating summer season, the Storm were crowned co-champions of the Raymond Tag-Team Championships over the weekend of August 19-20.

The team showed up on Saturday morning with just 9 players, almost half of which were from the 14U Thunder. But despite the somewhat disappointing turnout, the team was able to do well, winning 2 of their 3 games that day. They overcame the Nashua Nightmares and Bethlehem Batbusters, but fell in a close game to the Attitude from Maine. The team came back on Sunday morning, this time with another 2 players and were able to win at 11am against the hosting Raymond team. The Storm finished up their season ending tournament with a convincing 15-3, 5-inning win over the Hudson Heat who showed up for the game with just 8 players. Though tied with the Batbusters and Attitude with a 4-1 record, the Storm was crowned a co-champion of the tourney as a member of the dominating "A" Pool consisting of the Attitude and Nightmares (The tourney was set up slightly different that most with pool play to determine seedings, then cross pool play to earn points for the pool as a whole. The pool with the most points took home the title). Great job Storm- way to end the season!

A special thanks to the members of the 14U Thunder who came and helped out during the course of the weekend including Lindsay Morin, Jamie Beattie, Alyssa Petrillo, and Colleen Kehoe. Also thanks to Ashley Smith of Franklin, NH who pitched most of the games for the team. Thanks guys, we couldn't have done it without you!

The season officially wrapped up with the end-of-season cookout held at the Smith Rec. Field in Plaistow on Sunday, August 20th, from about 4pm to 7pm. Members of all the Plaistow squads met for food, a parent vs. daughter softball game, an egg toss, and some awards. It was a great way to end the summer season!
