Here is our 2000 logo Team Colors Just thought this should be thrown in somewhere... team colors! In case you didn't noticed, one of our main colors is orange. We love to stand out! Why orange? Everyone asks! Why not? It's a bright, energetic, and positive color! As of July 1, 2000, all the teams in the Plaistow Softball family wear; ORANGE!!! The board of directors finally decided to go with navy blue shorts and ORANGE shirt. Now over 60 young athletes proudly wear the orange of Plaistow! Here we go, ORANGE!!! History of Plaistow Softball: the very beginning Plaistow Softball was formed in the early 90's when Sue Sherman, team founder and her husband John, chose orange shirts for their daughter, Kate's U-14 team to wear. Softball has become a family affair for the Sherman's. In the summer of 2000, Kate brings her talents to the field as coach of the U-12 Cyclones. The motto for the Plaistow organization has been, and will always be, "play hard, have fun". History of Plaistow Softball: the summer of '99 During the summer of '99, our teams accomplished impressive feats. The 14-U did well at the state tournament and qualified for the New England championships. The 16-U Storm won the 1999 NH/ASA Class "B" Championship, returning the title to Plaistow (the 16-U Lightning, whose members are now 18+, won it in 1996). The '99 Storm went on to place third at the New England Regional Tournament held in Plymouth, NH. The 18-U Lightning also played well- they won the Barbara Hamilton tournament in Hudson and did well at the Laconia tournament, both in August. History of Plaistow Softball: the summer of 2000 The Plaistow teams get better every year, and this was clear following the summer of 2000. The 12U Cyclones played their inaugural season under the direction of Kate Sherman and Shauna Cate and all were pleased with the players' improvement over the course of the summer. The 14U Thunder was perhaps the most impressive of the Plaistow squads this year. After losing their first game at the state tourney, they went on to capture the 14U ASA Class B state championship by winning the next 6 games they played. This state title earned them the right to participate at the 14B East National Tournament held in Marietta, Georgia for a week in August. The team went 2-2, officially tying for 17th place. This was the first time that any Plaistow team played at a national tournament. The 16U Storm went through somewhat of a rebuilding year after winning the 16U Class B state championship in '99. They played hard, but failed to place at the state tournament or the Hudson Invitational. But with hard work and a little help from a few members of the Thunder, and the Storm was crowned a co-champion at the Raymond Tag Team Championships. The 18U Lightning had a great summer, winning 2 tournaments. After a disappointing tie for fifth place at the 18U Class A state tournament, the team was able to win both the Bow Invitational and the Nor'Easter Classic. Great job to all the teams and thanks to the players, coaches, parents, and fans who helped us along the way! SOFTBALL ESSAYS: found this to share! Hold the rope!Every year a college team wins the NCAA title. Every year a team wins the Nationals. Every year a team wins the states, the regionals, and the divisionals. All of these teams have one thing in common, and contrary to popular belief: gifted athletes is not the commonality. No matter how tough it became throughout the season..they did one thing...all the successful teams..they held the rope. So, what is holding the rope? Imagine you are hanging off the side of a cliff with a drop of 2000 feet. The only thing between you and a fall is a rope with a person of your choice at the other end. Who do you know that has the commitment to pull you to safety? Who will hold the rope? If you can only name one person..that's not good enough because that one person might not be around. Next time your team is together ,look around and ask yourself, who could I trust to hold the rope? Then look at yourself and ask, who would I hold the rope for? When you can look at every member on your team and say to yourself that they ALL would hold the rope, including yourself, then you are destined for success! You will win in life and in softball. No matter what sport you play, commitment matters to the team. Your commitment shows that you are holding the rope. So hold the rope and have success. |
