Pittsford Hawks win 2009 Model Club Award
Rochester District Youth Soccer League Announces Club Award Winners
RDYSL and its 34 member clubs have had enough of trash talking players, coaches who “work the referee” trying to gain an advantage and spectators who taunt opposing players or worse. The league has taken action to return local youth soccer to an earlier era when all involved had a lot more fun with a lot less tension.
The 522 teams and 8,000 plus players in local travel soccer clubs were given new incentives in the 2009 season to eliminate the behaviors that are not intended to be a part of the game. Parents and guardians were required to sign a new minimum standard “Zero Tolerance Policy” document that specified their behavior expectations on the sidelines. Each individual team was eligible for a team sportsmanship award at the end of the season. Clubs that qualified for this will be announced in a separate press release. Finally, the clubs had an opportunity to obtain a partial refund of the fees they paid to RDYSL if the teams in their club achieved pre-specified levels of conduct.
Clubs could qualify for one of two levels of award:
Leadership Club Award: Awarded to clubs with no coach/staff/spectator ejections and minimal coach/staff/spectator minor offenses, no red and a minimal number of yellow cards for loss of player control, and below the median for league-imposed fines.
Model Club Award: Awarded to clubs with no coach/staff/spectator ejections or minor offenses, no red and a minimal number of yellow cards for loss of player control, and in the lower third of clubs for league-imposed fines.
RDYSL is pleased to announce that the Pittsford Hawks Soccer Club earned the Model Club Award for the 2009 season.
RDYSL is also pleased to announce that the following clubs earned the Leadership Club Award for the 2009 season:
Bloomfield Soccer Club
Brighton Soccer Club
Byron-Bergen Soccer Club
Penfield Strikers Soccer Club
Tips for the Season!
We would just like to make some suggestions and remind you of a few things for the coming season. (NOTE: For Field locations, see the Locations Page, and the Links Page for directions to other Rochester District Soccer League fields in Monroe County.)
1. If you have not already, please review the Rule and Regulations. Ignorance of a rule will not be an excuse.
2. Remember to contact the opposing team prior to the game. Review uniform colors, field directions and any last minutes items.
3. Fill out the game report (available on the website) prior to arriving at the field. Remember 2 copies are needed per game.
4. Get your 6 home game envelopes together when handed out during the Spring meeting.
5. Get your money together for paying the referee at home games
6. Remember to fill out the game evaluation form on the website after your game. This helps the referee unit identify referees that need help and good referees. Your input and comments are used.
7. If you have not already you should have a meeting with your parents. Please review the rules and conduct. High points should include what is a legal slide tackle, off sides and not yelling at the referee. Remind them to keep everything in perspective.
This game is for the kids.
Lets have a great season!
