ABOUT SPIRITThe Pittsburgh Spirit Fastpitch Softball Organization is Western Pennsylvania's leader in quality fastpitch travel teams. The organization develops well-rounded, team-oriented players who excel at the highest levels of competition. The Spirit organization's driving philosophy is to maximize the development of the player's skills (both individual and team) by providing a world class practice/drill environment with year round indoor and outdoor dedicated practice facilities. We combine this with promoting a positive attitude in all situations--in victory and defeat--both on and off the field. We are humble in our victories and accept our losses with dignity--we teach that a positive attitude is the best approach for everything in life.
Our coaches attend annual national coaching programs where they learn from the leading Division I college coaches and olympians about the latest drill/practice routines and game strategy.
Our dedicated indoor winter practice facilities include: (a) areas for pitching and fielding practice, and eight batting stations with two "jugs" pitching machines during the week; and (b) an indoor sports dome facility on Sunday mornings providing two full size practice fields that allows us to run scrimmages and full field practices, with additional separate practice drill areas. During the spring and summer months we have a dedicated lighted outdoor field.
The Spirit teams win approximately 70 to 90% or more of their games and all of our 2008 teams qualified for National Championship Tournaments for ASA, PONY or NSA. For information on our three National Championship teams please see the "History" page by clicking on the left side of this page.
Our teams attend, among others, tournaments in Pennsylvania (State Championships), Ohio (Sluggerfest), Michigan (Compuware) and New York (Aunt Rosie's). We also plan to qualify and send our teams to National Championship tournaments at the end of each season.
In 2010, we are fielding a total of thirteen teams (one 10U, two 12U, four 14U, three 16U, two 18U and one 23U) as set forth below.

2010 Tryouts - We have completed our 2010 tryouts. We will hold our 2011 tryouts in Auhust or Septemebr 2010.
PITTSBURGH SPIRIT TOURNAMENT NSA FIRECRACKER QUALIFIER JULY "4TH" 2009--We hosted our traditional July 4th weekend firecracker tournament on June 26, 27 and 28 2009. We will again host this tournament in 2010. Go to www.nsawpa.com and click on "tournaments" and click on Firecracker Classic for more information.
2009 COLLEGE SHOWCASE--The 2009 College Coaches Showcase Tournament scheduled for October 10 & 11, 2009 has been cancelled due to rain. Statistical information by position from our October 2008 Showcase is available under the Handouts section of our website. The 2009 Showcase was to be held in conjunction with the NSA College Showcase Tournament - see www.nsawpa.com for tournament information. The tiurnament is still being held.
