Matadors take Allegheny Division crown
NORTH HILLS, PA - The Matadors continued their string of strong performances over the Bulldogs this year by sweeping them in the Allegheny Division Championship en route to the Pittsburgh NABA Championships at Consol Energy Park.

The Bulldogs struck early, scoring a run on two Matadors miscues in the first inning. However, the Matadors responded in kind by posting two runs in the the bottom half of the inning. That proved to be all the Matadors would need as they went on to win by a score of 3-1.

In a game marked by strong pitching performances on the parts of Corey Yokel of the Matadors, and Doug Schreiber of the Bulldogs, the solid defensive play of the Matadors proved to be the decisive factor in the contest.

"They are solid up the middle, and have good pitching. They generally don't beat themselves, so you have to take advantage of your chances when you have them, and we didn't do that this series," noted Bulldogs manager Scott Kramer.

"It was a great series, and we beat a good ballclub by the slimmest of margins on two occassions. It's a credit to our ballclub that we were able to beat the Bulldogs four times this year, when no one else could even do it twice. It also says something about the guys in that other dugout. I tip my hat to them," said a notably pleased Ron Tiedeman.

Series MVP Corey Yokel added, "We played a solid defensive game. Dom (Marchionna) did a great job calling the game, and my defense gave me the confidence to make the pitches I needed to make when I needed to make them."

The Matadors will play the Monongahela Division Champions for the Pittsburgh NABA crown.
