Rebels come from behind to take Monongahela Wild Card
NORTH HILLS, SPRING HILL, BROOKLINE - In a wild contest that spanned three days and nine innings, suspended twice due to darkness, and delayed twice due to thunderstorms, the Rebels defeated the Knights 10-9 to advance in the Monongahela playoffs.
"It was a battle of wills," noted catcher Kabby Everly whose 5th-inning Homerun ignited a rally by the Rebels on the way to their eventual win.
The Knights took the lead, 9-8 on a triple by Rob Cool that scored Ben Sororski, but the lead was short-lived as Matt Dalton drove in Darren Newberry with a two-out triple to right that tied the score. The game appeared headed to extra innings as Jesse Jones grounded to short with a runner on first. However, an error was made at second base, allowing the winning run (Dalton) to score from third.
When asked to comment on the marathon game, Rebels manager noted that this, "must be the longest, craziest, most expensive game ever in the history of the Pittsburgh NABA."
The Rebels advance to play the Black Sox in Game 1 of the Monongahela Championship series later this evening at Moore Park in Brookline.
