It’s
been two years since these East Coast rivals hooked-up in a battle on the gridiron. On Saturday October 18th, another
edition of entertaining minor league football will take place when the Central
Penn Piranha (11-0) host the DC Explosion (10-2) at Susquehanna Township H.S.
This
will be the 8th meeting, with the Piranha leading the all-time
series 7-0. The last time these two
teams crossed paths was during the 2006 Atlantic Region Semi-Final Game. The Piranha recorded a hard-fought 43-17
victory. Clinging to a 20-17 lead late
in the third quarter, Piranha wide receiver Hasaan Brockman ignited a 23-point
“Scoring Frenzy” (span of 15:48) with an 84 yard kickoff return for a
touchdown.
Rookie
running back Roosevelt Turner logged 138 yards and 1 TD on the ground over 23
carries. Both special teams units
excelled in the kickoff return department (CPP 153, DC 218), as well as in the
kicking game (CPP 3-3 FG, DC 1-1 FG).
This
week’s game will be the deepest (third round) in the playoffs that Central Penn
and DC have met.
