Pilots Crash Hard Against U of D & OLSM
It's never easy playing two football games within 6 days, but to go 0-2 in those two games makes it even worse. This is the predicament De La Salle found themselves in as the Pilots lost to U of D Jesuit 35-28 on Sunday, September 18th and were manhandled by Orchard Lake St. Mary's on Saturday, September 24th 30-0 at West Bloomfield High School. The Pilots are now 3-2 on the year.

Against U of D, the Pilots scored first, when Dan Lomasney scored from 3 yards out to complete a 4 play, 12 yard drive, after De La Salle recovered a U of D fumble at the UD 12 yard line. But the Cubs raced right back, scoring 21 unanswered points, taking a 21-7 lead on De La Salle midway through the second quarter, but the Pilots were not to be denied in the first half as they put the screws on the Cub offensive attack and scored twice within the last 5 minutes of the second quarter, first on a one yard run by Cecil St. Pierre and a 2 yard run by senior Dan Lomasney.

But in the third quarter, U of D took control of the game, scoring twice and putting themselves out front by 14 at 35-21. De La Salle cut the lead to 35-28 with 4 minutes left in the fourth quarter on an 8 yard run by Dan Lomasney, but the Pilot defense was unable to get another stop and De La Salle suffered its first defeat of the season.

On Saturday, De La Salle took on one of the CHSL Central Division favorites in Orchard Lake St. Mary's and thoughts of an upset floated throughout the minds of the players and coaches, but those thoughts were soon dashed as OLSM scored on the second play of the game and scored 20 points in the first quarter and cruised to a 30-0 over the Pilots, the first time De La Salle has been shutout since Week 5 of 2004 when Brother Rice shut out the Pilots 17-0.

So now the Pilots are 3-2 and Divine Child comes to the Warren Community Center as De La Salle celebrates Homecoming this week. The game will take place on Friday, September 30th at 7:00 PM. Hopefully the Pilots can go back to their winning ways and get back on track to a possible playoff and Prep Bowl berth. So until Friday, as always, Good Luck and GO PILOTS!!!
