ALUMNI BRETT THOMAS IN THE NEWS
BThomas 2011
Congratulations to Brett Thomas (2010) who was named Pac-12 Player of the Week.  Brett batted .636 (7-for-11) in the UCLA series with two doubles, three runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases as the Ducks took two-of-three from then fifth-ranked UCLA in Los Angeles. His effort helped the Ducks win five consecutive conference games for the first time since 1976 which included UO’s sweep of Arizona State (March 30-April 1). In the UCLA series, Brett was hit by a pitch and walked once, with a .692 on-base percentage, while posting a .818 slugging percentage. He was also perfect in the outfield, and recorded an outfield assist.

In Thursday’s 6-2 victory, the native of Poway, Calif., batted 2-for-4 with a stolen base on the evening. In Friday’s 8-3 win, Brett led Oregon with a 3-for-4 performance which included a RBI and run scored. His two-out RBI single was part of a four-run inning in the fifth for the Ducks. In Saturday’s finale, and 8-6 loss, Thomas was 2-for-3 with a RBI double, two runs scored and a stolen base.

This is Brett's first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and the fifth all-time selection for Oregon.

JOB WELL DONE!
Rummage Sale

Many, many thanks to all of you who came out to work at today's Rummage Sale!  It was so nice to see that the majority of players and parents came out to help.  Thank you to Anna Berquist for heading up this event - this was a HUGE undertaking and you did a wonderful job!  John Newman and Todd Mumby put many miles on their trucks as they picked up items from all around.  Thank you to Kristin Nevin for allowing us to store our larger items in her garage.  Our other moving men included Kelly Jones, Ray Patenaude, Lee Curtis, and our new Frosh Coaches - Phil Thompson and Joe Gautreau . . . you all are awesome!  Thank you to Laura Curley for bringing sandwiches for our starving players and workers - that was so kind.  Thank you also to Kimberly Weisz for taking photos for us (you too, Chandler).  Click on the heading above to link to the album.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR FIELD DAY CHAIRMAN, RICK SIDLEY
clappping_hands.gif.gif.gif

A very heartfelt thank you to all of you who participated in our recent field clean-up day.

As many of you know, or are finding out, we are very lucky to have a facility like our ball fields.  It takes a clan to keep them in shape each year and that is what we had.  Fortunately, we live in a community who values volunteering their time for a good cause and a commitment to our schools and children.

Even with the inclimate weather we accomplished everything on our list in addition to a few other items like a new stereo system in the team room.

It is hard to single out anyone because we all kept busy until the work was complete but there were a few players who I did not see stop moving all day.

A special thank you to Mr. Etchison and Mr. Boyce for spending their field day 15 feet in the air repairing the ceiling in the pavilion.  It looks outstanding.

A special thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Gallagher who hung in there with me until the evening to complete the repairs on the shed.  I could not have done it without you.  Justin, Joshua, and Michael stayed to help complete the repairs in the pavilion.  Mr. Fischer and Mr. DiAnna did a super job on the roll-ups. Mr. Hubbard, Mr. Dean, and Mr. Curtis on the pressure washers.  Mr. Newman with his chainsaw.  Watch out for that tree! The BBQs look new thanks to Mr. Sandoval, Mr. Murphy, and Mr. Newman.

Many thanks to Rick Sidley and his assistants, Mike Etchison and Jason Lindquist, on the completion of our scoreboard restoration project.  With your golf tournament revenue, the scoreboard was scraped and painted.  Rick, Mike, and Jason then spent their Sunday reapplying all of the lettering.  As you can see, it looks so much better!  Thanks guys!

GREAT SUCCESS!
Golf Chairs
Dave Fischer & Ron Moreno

Long overdue congratulations to our 2011 Golf Tournament Champions - Ted Tollner and his foursome from Lombardi Construction - Mike Lombardi, Todd Mavis, Dan Watkins, and Miles Harper.  Second Place went to Craig McEwen and his foursome from Gatorz Vizion - George Moulios, Randy Jones, Bert Poncher, and Tod Kilgore.  Bill Maher won the Chipping Contest, Willie Barnett won the Putting Contest, and Mike McCandless won the Long Drive.

Dave Fischer, his assistant Cici, and Ron Moreno did a phenomenal job heading up our 16th Annual Poway Titan Baseball Celebrity Golf Classic and Dinner-Auction.  It was another record breaking year!

Adele Sabourin did a beautiful job with the silent auction, while John Newman did an equally amazing job with the live.  Other committee members included Anna Berquist, Mike and Dawn Etchison, Scott Godfrey, Kelly Jones, Les Hubbard, Jenny Lowe, Pat Miller, Ray Patenaude, Rebecca Peppers, Steve Robinson, Jim Reifeiss, Rick Sidley, and Dawn Sullivan.  We received much needed support from our "Always a Titan Club" made up of Titan alumni - Carol Nix, Nancee Prast, Peter and Mee-Sun Joe, Michele Manos, and Charlie Hasenbeck.  Other volunteers who helped the day of the event include Terry Moreno, Susan Hindemith, Andrea and Alan Dean, Pam Reifeiss,  Bill James, Stan Barth, Annette Godfrey, Melinda Patenaude, Kimberly Weisz, Leticia Dooney, and Rob Murphy.

As you can see, it takes many hands to make this golf tournament/auction a success!  Thank you all so much for your support of Poway Titan Baseball!
