Steven Halcomb and Austin Steussy put on a clinic for children living in an orphanage in Tijuana this past Saturday as their Senior Project. Their clinic was held at a Sportsplex in the middle of Tijuana.  In addition to the clinic, the boys delivered baseball equipment (much of it donated by our own Titan families).  They were joined by Austin Wynns, Bubba Jensen-Johnson, Brett Friedman, Kevin Newman, and Harlan Geernaert.

The day started with handing out donated jerseys, hats, and gear, proceeded through the morning with the boys' taking groups through various stations, and gathering everyone together for a talk led by Steven. This was followed by a big hot dog and lemonade lunch with lots of goodies and capped off by a raucous game. The kids wanted everything signed, from jerseys to hats to bats and baseballs.  Pretty soon, our players were getting the kids to sign their own shirts, which tickled everyone to no end.

A great time was had by all.  These players certainly did Titan Baseball proud! 

The International High School Power Showcase Home Run Derby has announced that Josh Anderson has been named to the 2010 Power Showcase All-World and All-American Baseball Team and will represent California in the 4th Annual International High School Power Showcase Home Run Derby Finals.

The Power Showcase brings together the top High School "Power Hitting Prospects" in the world and provides them with a perfect center-stage opportunity to hit in major league stadiums.  There will be a total of seventy spots available; sixty prospects selected from the U.S. and ten foreign players/countries.

Prep Baseball: Top Players

Thank you to everyone who came out to help at Field Day yesterday and to Robert Behic and Charlie Hasenbeck for organizing the day!!!  We had a great turnout and got a lot of projects accomplished.  We were very fortunate that the rain held off.  The press box, snack bar, and restrooms are sparkling; the sheds have been cleaned out and organized, leaves raked, roof repaired, refrigerators fixed, the backstop replaced, sandbags set, and much, much more.  

We'd also like to say thank you to Chic Hume who spent several days last week repairing our helmet racks and team room ceiling.  They look great!

Mike Tarantino was named the recipient of the 2009 Dick Erickson founders award from the National Sports Turf Managers Association.  This award is presented annually to the sports turf manager who positively impacts the sports turf industry and exhibits effective team leadership.  

Mike is the Director of Facilities and Maintenance for PUSD and is a big reason that our field is the best in the county.  Congratulations Mike!  You are so deserving of this honor.

Congratulations to Jim Willkie, Fred Westfall, Van Hunt, and Kyle Montague, along with their celebrity Mark Grudzielanek and caddie Steven Halcomb, on winning the 2009 Poway Titan Baseball Celebrity Golf Classic!  We look forward to seeing you defend your title at our 15th!

THANK YOU to Michele Manos for taking on the huge job of putting together our auction, to Dave Miller and Don Sharp for heading up the golf tournament, and to Robert Behic and Mee-Sun Joe for working on the committee.  Thank you to Heidi James for her expertise in putting together the program and taking care of the paperwork the night of the auction, and to Nancee Prast, an alumni mom who comes every year to help because "once a Titan, always a Titan". Thank you to Pat Lipe and Dad's Firehouse Pizza and Deli for feeding all of our hardworking caddies after golf. Thank you to all who stepped up and worked a shift or two or three, those who donated auction items and put the baskets together, those who golfed and/or came to dinner, and those who bid on the great auction items.  The success of this tournament is due to all of you!

THANK YOU to Jeff Drucker and Subway of Twin Peaks for providing lunches for all of our golfers, caddies, and volunteers.  Thank you to Scott Wam and Game Day Sports for providing the tee signs and awards.  We are so grateful for your ongoing support of our program!

A very special THANK YOU goes to Carol Nix, and her company, A Quality Connection - Events Division, for the hundreds of hours that she volunteered to make sure our event ran smoothly.  Carol's leadership was the key to our tournament's success!

One last note . . . thank you to my caddies.  You all did a great job and represented Poway Titan Baseball very well!
