Pleasant Hills Roller Hockey League: FAQs
Monday, March 9
FAQs

*Please note, the following answers are based on what the league has done in the past.  There may be times when changes may be necessary.  (excessive number of rainouts, larger than expected number of teams in a division)

When does the season start/How long does it run?

Learn-to-Play: Classes begin when the games begin, in the last week of May and run through the first week of August.

Midgets/Bantams: Practices begin around the first of May, depending on the weather. Each team practices once a week. Games begin in the last week of May and continue through the first week of August.

Juniors: Practices begin around the first week of May. Games begin every Sunday from the second Sunday of May to the beginning of August.

Adults: There will be one practice in the third week of May. Games will begin the last Thursday in May and run through the first week of August.

What is a typical schedule?

Learn-to-Play classes are 1 hour, once a week and are planned for Tuesday this season.

Midgets and Bantams play Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday each week. There is usually one game per week but there will be weeks when there are two games. Games usually start at 7pm/8pm/9pm.

Juniors play Sunday nights and Adults play Thursday nights. Game times for these 2 divisions will depend on how many teams there are.

How many games are in a season?

Learn-to-Play will have at least 10 classes. Midgets, Bantams and Juniors play 12 games. Adults will play at least 10 games, possibly more depending on how many teams we have.

Where are the games played?

All games and practices take place at the Pleasant Hills Boulevard Park, on Pleasant Hills Boulevard across Route 51 from the Pleasant Hills Fire Dept, south of the cloverleaf.

What kind of equipment do I need and where can I get it?

Required equipment is a helmet with cage or shield, mouth guard, elbow pads, hockey gloves, shin guards that cover the knee, inline skates, athletic supporter, and stick with taped or butt end. Most sporting goods stores carry hockey equipment. (Dick’s, Dunhams) There are also several Hockey stores in the area. Premier Hockey is located on Rt 88 in Castle Shannon. Ko Sports is in Canonsburg near Southpointe. Hockey equipment can also be found at online sites and ebay. The website has a page for buying and selling equipment: the Equipment Connection. Information can be emailed to the webmaster who will post it on the site.  Adults are not required to wear a cage or shield on their helmets.

I want to play goalie. Do I need my own goalie equipment?

No. The league provides equipment for goalies.

Can I play up/down a division?

The league does not allow players to play up a division or down. The only exception to this rule is for 12 year olds. 12 year old players who are uncomfortable moving up to the Bantam division may choose to remain in the Midget division.

How are the teams formed?

Teams are formed by a blind draft system. The only information visible to the coach is the player’s age. (The adult cards are blank) The draft takes place in mid April. Coaches will notify their players at to what team they are on and when their practices are. Rosters will also be posted on the website. Adult division rosters will also be posted on the website along with a practice date and time. Players will choose their captain at the practice. Captains will be responsible for notifying players of game/time changes, playoff information, etc.

What is the Playoff Picnic?

The season ends with a playoff picnic, which takes place on a Saturday. (tentative date this year is August 8th) All players are asked to bring a covered dish to enjoy during their game. The league provides the hot dogs. All teams will play at least one game on Saturday. Learn-to-Play participates in the playoffs with a scrimmage. Playoffs are single elimination. Teams that win Saturday will move on to play Sunday. Championship games will be played Sunday night.

Adult Playoffs: The adult division playoffs are tentatively planned for the Thursday before the playoff picnic. (August 6th) The adult Championship game will be played Sunday night following the Junior Championship game.
